Hello everyone! I am a pretty active female for the sake of weight loss. Now I do know that whey protein builds and repair muscle. However, I do not want to bulk up. I'm thinking that as a female, I don't have the testosterone to do so. So my question is: is whey protein only for those who want to bulk up? Can it also be used for weight loss as a meal replacement shake? I would love to hear testimonials from people currently taking/have taken whey protein and its affect on the body. For example, did you notice an improvement in energy level? Increased performance? Weight loss/gain? All comments appreciated, thanks!

My trainer has me drinking a pure whey protein shake. She prefers that I eat other things with it though. Not to use it as meal replacement, but more as meal enhancement. She doesn't want me having more than 2 a day. Since I'm supposed to have protein at every meal (5 or 6 meals a day), I'll sometimes toss in a shake when I'm not incorporating protein in other ways...like at breakfast since i don't have time to cook in the morning. I lost about 20 pounds in a couple months time, was working out a lot and eating a lot of veggies. I was starting to have a lot of energy, but then had a setback with an injury. I'm just now picking things back up.

i throw a scoop in every morning and night with my shake as a supplement because otherwise I don't get enough protein. I am very obese and exercise is not a thing I do a lot of because I can't yet but I have noticed since doing this that I have more stamina and more energy and the exercise I do get to do seems to be more benifitial to me. I am also losing weight and inches very consistently.
The others are right. Shrinkabootie said it very simply. Use it as a meal enhancement...not a meal replacement. Add it to what you are already eating. I use Gold Standard and it is a relatively low-cal protein that you can mix with milk or whatever. Being a woman, the protein will NOT make you bulk up like a guy. It will, however, help you tone the muscles.
yeah get whey protein ISOLATE it dosen't have cals or fat.... and use it to enhance ur meal... it will increase ur lean mass... which in turn will improve ur METABOLISM-->Decrease in fat mass and ulitmately a well toned body :-)
Aww, thanks everyone for responding! I will definitely continue taking my whey protein shakes worry-free! Also, I had a shake about a half hour before a work out and noticed a significant increase in my stamina and time spent on a high-intensity level on the ellipticals and stepper (an hour and a half!). Could it be from the protein, do you think?
do u take protein isolate or normal whey protein?? which has calories-about 130cals/scoop.. so that could be an increase in ur stamina...
hi guys.. i actually had a very similar question about whey protein as jenny123456. my friend really recommended it to me, as a substitute for breakfast b/c i never have time to actually eat anything more than a kiwi.. so i bought it today, chocolate flavored : ) yum. i have not tried it yet but she says it's delicious. i'm really scared it might make me lose weight, but i am gonna keep an eye on my weight and see how it goes. so my question is actually.. ti sasy to mix one scoop with 8 ounces of water.. how much exactly is one scoop?? like how many tbs.. or ounces? b/c i feel like a scoop cld be many things... and also if anyone else has any experience with whey protein shakes .. i would love to hear more about it.. if it has worked for people and such... thanks y'all.
coralgirly the scoop usually comes with the powder and if you are not sure look on the container and it will tell you how much to put in or how much a scoop is for that particular type or brand of powder.
I pointed this out in the other thread but I may as well say it here too. It doesn't matter whether you're male or female, the idea that taking whey protein is going to somehow bulk you up is a complete myth.
To bulk you have to lift heavy weights and eat big. It takes effort. You aren't going to do it by accident. Protein supplements are just supplements, not magical bullets.
