I have a whey protein shake twice a week on my weight-lifting days. I've tried two brands, and the one I like the most is sweetened with stevia and is vanilla-cake flavored. It tastes really good, I even add it to instant coffee instead of cream and sugar sometimes. The other kind I tried was sweetened with asparatame. It was ok once I got used to it but at first I could barely get it all down without gagging. I'd say go for one sweetened with stevia, if you can find it. The one I use has 120 cal per scoop for 21 g of protein and like 4g of carbs. Oh, and for some reason using a shaker bottle to mix it makes it taste WAY better than just using a spoon to stir it, unless you're adding it to coffee. :)
Optimum Nutrition makes some good flavors.
Of course, what I think is good, you may think is terrible.
my have
130 cal............20 frrom fat (2g)
sat fat 1.5 g
carbs 3.5 g
sugar 3g
protein 20 g
sodium 60 mg
be carfefull with these, because some may have lot of sugar added
I just started to drink a whey protein shake for breakfast, I think I'm going to do it 4 mornings a week (breakfast)...because I get up and I have daycare kids right away and don't care to eat in the morning. The other days we have the special k or cherios. My question is, if anyone knows, when it says 120 calories does that mean prepared or not prepared because if you add it to water that is fine but once you add it to milk does that add calories or is it 120 calories prepared with milk. Which this doesn't make sense so I'm thinking it is 120 calories per scoop unprepared??? Just making sure so I can count my calories properly. I am using Whey Gourmet Strawberry, banana smoothie....YUMMMMMMY!!!!! I did mix it with water and ice and it is so good and the calories are great for morning.
Thanks :)
I use IsoPro vanilla protein powder most mornings. I mix it with milk and dump it over my porridge instead of adding sugar. 1 scoop of powder + 1 cup of milk is the recommended mix, and it works out to be 130 calories and 30g protein. I buy the huge bucket, which costs around $50 Canadian but lasts forever.
My husband thinks all protein powders / shakes / protein bars taste beyond disgusting, though. I'm at the other extreme I guess; I like the taste.
Of course, that's just my opinion - I also happen to like the taste of regular Power Bars, which most people I know find to be quite nasty. But, to each his own.
