HR peeps help me out: why would anyone ask such a ridiculous question?
Because they took some HR seminar and heard that **** questions like that provide insight into the psyche of the applicants.

I have no clue to be honest unless they are going for a cultural fit with a group of workers.
Okay so I would answer that silly question with ...................... a replay like .................. I would want to be able to read other peoples minds and then make what they were thinking happen.
My answer: The power to persuade you to hire me at twice my current salary.
one of my manager friends who does a lot of interview said he liked the question and would use it in his future interviews. Now I will have to ask him why he liked it.
That question probably gives an indication of an individual's personality (risk-taker, problem-solver, unrealistic, practical). Something like that.

More importantly I would have to ask him what would be acceptable answers to that question.

his gf said she didn't want to need sleep anymore so she could work all the time. He said that was a suck up answer and he wouldn't hire her.

Yep! I've heard all sorts of interview questions tossed about at these things.
