where i work, we have one menu, eat it or dont is the policy, they only provide white noodles, white potatos cooked all kinds or ways, white rice, blah blah blah. i have no way to change these options. but which of these white foods iff i was to eat them is the best for you. i do eat lots of bread which is where my normal carbs come from, thats why i try not to eat this other food, but sometimes its nice to have a warm meal and not to prepare something the night before
There's nothing intrinsically wrong with any of those foods. Starches get slammed as being 'empty calories' but they are still providing you with useful energy.... ideal for someone recovering from an ED. Potatoes are a good source of vitamin C as well. If you keep the portion-size of the noodles/rice etc. modest and fill the plate with plenty of vegetables and whatever else is on offer then it'll be a nice, filling, nutritious meal. Enjoy.
I work at a facility that provides lunch for staff. It's "jail food" so most people pack lunches, however, my understanding is that there are some federal guidlines out there that require a certain balance of carbs/protein/fat and a caloric range in cafeterias of any kind. In other words, if they are serving pasta, it will have a meat and veggie based sauce, likely some type of bread on the side, and fresh fruit or a side salad. If I chose to eat work food, I could always omit the bread and have an extra piece of fruit. That being said, I've eaten work food twice in the last 3 years.
What kind of a place are you working in that provides meals? This might provide some insight into why the menu seems so unbalanced.
i work at a kindergarden in eastern europe. they manage to feed the children healthy snacks, but at lunch it is mostly traditional fare, which is fatty meets, fatty suce and no veggies, its a shame, but like i said. tried to change it, but no chance at least i could make some recomendations about the starches.
