Are whole grain crackers considered a complex carb?

I love eating crackers and salsa, but i really dont want to eat any simple carbs.   Are there any crackers out there that are complex carbs or are even the whole wheat ones bad.  I bought some whole grain crackers today (3 crackers per serving by the way.  What the f? ), and the ingredients say "enriched whole wheat" which im pretty sure is bad, right?   Any suggestions for something better?

The benchmark with wholegrain foods is 'the grittier the better'!  There are some high-fibre crispbreads out there that are seriously wholegrain and as rough as a Brillo Pad.  That's the kind of thing you want.  Check the nutrition panel... something with 3 or more grammes of fibre per 100g is ideal.

Not at all. I love rye crackers. I agree with Jane, they really are fibrous and you can have practically anything with it. I eat Ryvita crackers and they provide 1.6g of fibre per 15.5g serving (a cracker). They can also come with seeds and nuts in to give them some extra bite and roughage.

I would avoid any crackers which are made from white flour, as you know that will just break down very quickly as a high GI food and convert into fat without giving any benefit. But once in a while would be okay.

You could also buy a low calorie whole wheat tortilla and bake it to make them like tortilla chips :)

Enriched means that the flour has added thiamine, folic acid, and a bunch of other nutrients... so it isn't a bad thing.  And your crackers have enriched whole wheat flour in them -- the word 'whole' is key. Unless their is another meal or flour listed, (or sugar!) like enriched wheat flour or something like that, it sounds like the crackers are good to go!

i thought enriched whole wheat meant that it was processed but then they had to add nutrients back to it to make it a little better than white bread or crackers.  i heard that "enriched" was just a way to trick people into thinking they were eating something good, but really the only reason it had to be enriched in the first place was because it was stripped of its nutrients through processing.

Enriched is a bad because it indicates overprocessed flour.  Enriched flour crackers going to be better than a Twinkie so perspective helps.  Some over processed items dont bother to enrich either but ideally your looking for less processing.  Whole wheat rather than whole wheat flour is your healthiest bet - think triscuits.

Enriched: fiber and nutrients were lost during processing but those listed have been added back.

Fortified: nothing was removed and additional nutrients have been added.
