Whole wheat/grain bread
Whenever we go to the store my mom insists we buy light, white bread because everyone in my house is dieting. I need more calories throughout the day and I want to start eating more natural foods. What are some good, whole wheat or whole grain (whatever is better), high fiber breads?

I, myself purchase the Roman Meal breads. Before I go off all fan-crazy on it, I'll state out the facts first. It starts off as a medium-calorie bread at the total of seventy calories per slice with a great count of two grams of fiber per slice. Now, going fan-crazy, here are some great things about this bread I really like. First off, it's whole wheat, I checked it like a thousand times and it is made with whole wheat flour. Check the ingredients yourself ;-O. Also, they have a no-HFCS line of breads that they do NOT put high fructose corn syrup in. This is great for two reasons, you are putting less ( yes, I say ) crap into your body along with it being more natural as you wanted your bread you are planning to buy to be. Good luck on your bread buying, make sure to read the ingredients on breads. Breads are most important usually in the ingredients more than the calories if you are wanting to eat natural, they're all around the same calories. * If you are lucky enough to have a local bakery (and are willing to splurge from time to time), try whole wheat sourdough, multi-grain or other kind of whole grain varieties (bakers will be able to tell you which is best for you)
* At the store, I like Whole Foods' 9-grain whole wheat sourdough and the regular whole wheat. Trader Joe's carries whole wheat pitas that are not bad.
*If you must buy packaged bread, I hear good things about Rudi's Organic bread (haven't tried it, but from what I can tell it has way too much sugar for me). I buy the Ezekiel sprouted bread once in a while, but I find it dry and kind of ... meh (their sprouted burger buns are awesome, though)
thats really the only place you will find a truly healthy whole grain bread.
agian, if you really want to take a step into grain nutrition, look up sourdough fermentation and sprouted breads, you will see that these are the best ways to eat your grains, they are easy to digest and theres acutally more nutrierents availble to you.
personally, i buy bread from berlin natural bakery, and french meadow bakery. The berlin bakery makes all thier breads from freshly milled Spelt ( ancient type of wheat, lower in gluten, better for you) and they have a wonderful sourdough with only three ingredients, no sugar!
personally, i hate ezekiel bread, this sourdough has a ton more flavor, i also get berlns sprouted spelt bread.
French meadow makes a decent hemp seed bread, and all thier breads are sourdough, hence no yeast, easy to digest..
Ive seen that many people cannot tolerate vital wheat gluten when its not fermented and broken down by bacteria.( added to make many whole wheat breads fluffy)
OroWheat Whole Wheat bread is wonderful! Soft and thin sliced. Even my teenaged boys love it! They also have a great Whole Grain bread and you don't have to make an extra trip.
I'm a fan of Oroweat's Double Fiber. One slice has 70 calories and 6 grams of fiber (24% of DV). It's soft and tasty too.
I am addicted to Target (!), and I've started buying their brand (Archer Farms) whole wheat bread. 100 calories a slice and pretty filling for sandwiches. Just check out the first ingredient in the back to make sure it says "whole wheat" rather than enriched flour.
