I have a pack of whole wheat flour tortillas that I bought over six months ago. They're opened but the bag has a ziplock seal. I inspected the remaining tortillas today, and there is no sign of mold or anything. Is this normal? I'm a little hesitant and will probably just throw them out, but I'm wondering if whole wheat tortillas can really keep for that long. My corn tortillas mold after about a month.
I've never eaten whole wheat tortillas before, but it sounds like bad news to me.
I vote you just buy new ones. Or if you insist on using them, test a really small portion and see if they've gone bad...
I'm surprised as well!!
However I wouldn't eat them. You'd probably be fine afterwards, but I wouldn't take that risk to save a couple bucks. Plus, I don't think you'd be *happy* eating them knowing they were 1/2 a yr old (considering you posted this as well :)
yuck, they are probably loaded with preservatives like most pre-sliced breads are. This reminds me of watching fast food nation. He mentions finding old french fries from mcdonalds in your car that you KNOW have been in there for months but still somehow look like they did they day you bought them. Yucky!
I eat anything as long as there is no mold on it. I find the tortillas from The Tortilla Factory will last months, even after the expirey date.
Okay but keep in mind, by the time you SEE the mold spores, it's already been growing a while.
Waiting until you SEE mold is not always wise.

urgh, you're right, i never even thought of it that way eh.
although maybe McD's gets an overly unjustified bad rep sometimes imo.... i mean is it really the worst food one can get??
my 'all natural' almond better never goes bad eh.... its been open for a LONG time, and i have to admit, i have double dipped into it :P
isnt that kinda interesting....
sry off topic, but just thought it was interesting!
Since you can "smell" mold before you can see it, take a whiff. Only then would I throw them out.
