Whoops...went a little nuts on my nuts! [Survey included]

Quote  |  Reply

I just ate about 700 cals in nuts, and my fat intake shows 159g.  Is that bad for just one day? (even if I am trying to get my period back, it may be a little extraneous...)

*edit*

If you had to rank the nuts in a Costco jar, what order would you place them in?  (It includes roasted almonds, regular almonds, cashews, brazilnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts)

700 cals in nuts?!?!? Are you Nutz?!?! 0,0 =]   sorry no helpful info here i just couldnt resist

Haha, yeah.  I made the mistake of allowing the costco jar of mixed nuts sit on my desk while I ate lol.  It's just when I get tired of one nut, I just move on to another type...and it just keeps going xD

And honestly, I'm more concerned about the amount of sodium I just consumed than the fat...haha

If you are trying to get your period back (I am too!) than it is probably actually a good thing to get a little more fat than you actually need in your diet. If going overboard on nuts in a jar is a problem, portion some out (some of each type, so you get some variety) then put your big Costco jar away. Personally I would rather have a delicious 700 calorie ice cream sundae or slice of cake than a big jar of nuts, but that's just me...

Just this once will not have done any harm. At least it was something healthy you went overboard on - you will be getting good fats and nutrients from the nuts.

Avoid leaving anything tempting within arm's reach in the future!

nuts are healthy, but nuts are extremely heavey n the stomach.

unless they are soaked first, nuts are very hard to digest. so take it easy and try not to reapet that, heh,.

Hahaha! Oh I'm so sorry, well nuts have very good things in them - but high in fats too.

I've totally done that though. Pistachios, oh boy, me and pistachios go waaaay back. I could eat those all day. I'm pretty sure I have. :D

i mean cmon, when have you eaten just one phistachio?

heh

If I had to pick one food to live on for the rest of my life, it would be salted nuts. Have very low blood pressure and sodium isn't a problem for me.

Remember that some nuts are much better for you than others....   Almonds are best...  Cashews not so good...  Macadamia nuts very bad.

I buy salted, dry-roasted almonds in bulk and those little snack-sized ziplock baggies.  Measure out one ounce per baggie. This is anywhere from 22-28 nuts depending on their size.  A scale is more accurate.

Carry the bags in my purse for a mid-afternoon energy snack.

So after placing the survey, I would have to say

1. Cashews

2. Regular almonds

3. Roasted almonds

4. Pecans

5. Hazelnuts

6. Brazilnut

NO WAY!

1. Brazil nuts ( I love them!)

2. Pecans

3. Cashew nuts

= 4/5 Almonds/hazelnuts

6. Roasted almonds

BTW:  There is something wrong with your calculations.

If you only ate 700 calories in mixed nuts, than your fat intake was somewhere between 60-75 grams of fat, NOT 159 grams.

159 grams of fat would have about 1,800 calories.... an entire 10 ounce can of mixed nuts!

Roasted nuts generally have between 15-20 grams of fat and 130-200 calories per ounce. Macadamias are probably the worst offender with 21 grams of fat and 203 calories per ounce.

i believe brazil nuts are actually EXTREMELY healthy (correct me if i'm wrong) because of their high selenium content which makes them a complete protein. they contain a ton of amino acids, zinc, antioxidants, and good fat (unsaturated).

Haha, I've totally eaten that many nuts before! All I can say is forget about it and move on. Besides, if you're trying to get your period back, it's good for you. Nuts are also generally nutritious, and the fats in them are primarily unsaturated. It's not like you loaded up on butter. :P

Oh, I also ate a lot of high-fat things in the morning to up my fat intake.  I just ate a bunch of nuts afterward XD
