whose an athlete and trying to lose weight?

i've been in sports since i was like 5 so i feel like i should def. be skinny, and then i see people that eat so much junk food and do nothing that are skinnier than i am, it it annoys me so much, and i eat healthy.. i went to 1500 calories a day and started gaining weight so i figured i wasn't eating enough so now im trying to do about 2000-2200 because i am practicing volleyball for 3 hours a day as of right now, sooo im hoping it works.. anybody else?

I am a retired athlete (well not really retired in the sense that I had a long fullfilling career, just in the fact that I don't compete anymore) but I find I have a hard time balancing exercise and calories. I seem to always overcompensate for my exercise.

Hi! I play volleyball too! I have practice just like you, 3-4 hours a day for 6 days a week! I know exactly what you mean! OMG! I have friends who do absolutely nothing, just PE at school but that's it! But yet they are like 110-120 lbs. They are like my height or sometimes like 5'6 or 5'7. It's so unfair. But remember:

-It's genes. Their parents must be skinny, but it'll catch up to them one day or another. 

- muscle weighs more than fat. Since we play volleyball we tend to build a lot of muscle (especially in the legs). So don't go by the scale (look at next bullet point)

-Don't go by the scale. The scale doesn't show how much fat, muscle, water you have in you. It just shows a number that says how much you weigh at that moment in time. 

Don't worry. I freaked out about it before and it didn't get me anywhere. But just more depressed. So yeah. Good luck in volleyball!

I know exactly how you feel. I'm strong, I'm athletic, but I still think I'm fat. >.<

Right now I'm just trying to drop 5-10 pounds. Still definitely keeping me in the healthy weight zone, but less fatty :)

yeesh, folk. you all are not fat. I feel bad for you and our culture where young superfit women are indoctrinated to think of themselves as fat.   I wish you could take a teaspoon of some self-esteem medicine, look in the mirror and see the attractive people that you are.

hahahh i can totally relate! my friend is like 90s pound and can just go into a dessert cafe and eat all she wants omg. i was doing sports like basketball, soccer and swimming since i was really young which gave me a pretty nice figure (yay)...only muscular (ugh). hahah i look fat ): blahh. kind of quit soccer now and trying to loose a few more pounds to keep me happy. i dont weigh much (15yrs; 110lbs) but i look soo much heavier though...? weird..

alevin- I don't think I'm fat. lol.

I just find it harder to lose weight when I'm super-athletic because I have a hard time balancing extra calories with extra calories burned. I end up eating around 3000 calories and then I put on weight! But when I eat around 1500 I usually binge because I'm hungry! So sticking around 2000 is my ideal. But its hard because I have some bad eating habits.

Otherwise alevin is right. Ya'll are not fat!

 

im really not worried about numbers.. im 5'10" and about 155 lbs. i know i have a lot of muscle so im okay with weighing a little bit more.. but i guess id like to reduce the whole body fat percentage.. which idk i've been eating healthy and eating about 2200 calories a day for about a month now... so hopefully i can just keep up through holidays and everything

Im an athlete, trying to slim down but not really lose weight. Im a gymnast, so I'm constantly exposed to the 'must be skinny to win' mindset, though Im much more conserned with gaining strength to safely attempt new skills and thus 'thin up' than loosing weight. While burning up to 1000 calories during sport, while restricting to lose weight, I've done serious damage to myself , and now am trying to avoid restrictly and just focusing on eating healthy and exercising.
