Wieght Gain - Where Fat is stored first

Quote  |  Reply

I am fairly skinny at the moment and packing in the calories to increase weight. At the moment my ab muscles are well toned and visible, mostly due to the low fat(10% Body fat). I was just wondering when I begin to gain wieght which areas am I likely to see the most increase in fat. I will be weight training and working on my shoulders to make them broader.

Just like you can't spot lose, you can't spot gain. There is no determining where your weight goes at first. Your body may will initially store weight around your abdominal area (bottom, thighs, stomach). It may initially store around your hips alone. It may go to your arms or your chest (if female, more so). But wherever it goes, it does eventually even out. Just have patience and go easy on the weights if your weight is very low. And if you don't believe it evens out, feel free to look at the before/after in my gallery - trust me, it happens. It just takes patience.

As my nutritionist used to say you can't build muscle out of bone. For many like myself who gain weight it does go to the tummy first. It is not a pleasure but like lala said it will even out in time. Regardless everyone is different has a different shape. Your body fat is very low and that comes with dangers in itself. I would focus on getting to a healthy weight and then focus on toning. You have to have enough body fat to be healthy

Why are you assuming gaining weight will be fat? if you are at 10% body fat and want to gain then eat good foods high in protein and gain muscle without increasing your body fat %. Keep woking out hard and you will gain muscle as long as you eat well. Don't eat foods that add wasteful calories and focus on muscle as you gain.

Wholley: 10% body fat for a woman is dangerously low. Women need a higher BF% to achieve menses among other things.

I am male, should have mentioned that.

Oops! Sorry!

xD

10% is considered "lean" but not "too low" for a man. Under 10% would be considered "athletic". The same would apply to women at 17%.
