wii advice

Need some advice.

Is the wii worth buying? I've never tried one before but it looks FUN. I know Jillian Michaels has a workout thing, but tennis and bowling just look like fun. That said, did anyone buy and find out they just wind up letting the thing gather dust? It's  a pretty big investment for a student like myself and I can't decide if it's something I should get. What do you all think?

I'm losing weight steadily by watching what I eat. I'm not very active yet - just walk a few miles a day and adding some push ups and arms work.  so maybe i wouldn't really like this or it'd be too hard for me to use it for any kind of workout? (i'm just making very sloooow changes to my life so they might actually stick)

I know 3 people who have the Wii and I think most of the time it just gathers dust. (they also have a few other game systems to use as well) But it really depends on you. I would not buy one because I think they are too expensive...then again, I dont have any video game systems except one I got for free from my dad...which is slightly out of date. Its not hard to use but I do not think that it provides a rigorous enough work out to do much for you. Plus since most of the movements you are doing on the Wii are without resistance it is pretty easy to hurt yourself if you are not careful. If you get the Wii Fit it does weigh you and give you your BMI if you are interrested in that aspect of it.

Hope this helps :)

I play my Wii everyday. Whether I'm playing Jillian Michaels, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, Biggest Loser, Wii Active, or I'm playing someting low key like De Blob, or Mario Party 8, I'm always on it. The workout games I compare to the workout videos of the 80's (Buns of Steel anyone?) They work as long as you keep with it. Currently I'm getting my butt kicked by The Biggest Loser game. I like the fact that its not just you moving your hands holding a controller, but you are throwing your arms around and flinging the wiimote at the screen or at different sides of the room to show movement. It just takes motivation and an interest in video games to actually make sure it doesn't collect dust. And hopefully you don't get bored quickly with games (my problem). Besides, everyone loves the old glassic Nintendo games, and you can download those on your system too!

I have had the Wii and Wii Fit for 2.5 months (my bf's mom bought it for his birthday- lucky me!). I don't play many video games but I have started to use the Wii fit more and more, although for now I do one session per week and several weigh-ins. I have to slowly fit it into my schedule so I get habituated to it before I try to set a daily workout goal.

It is awesome for basic yoga moves, something I would otherwise never get out and do. I like yoga the most, but I am trying more of the fitness moves and they are both easy to follow and pretty challenging, and you actually keep your form well with the balance board scoring you for each exercise.

I have lots of fun playing with my boyfriend/friends/family doing the aerobics games like hula hoop, and balance games like heading soccer balls and ski slalom.

I recently bought an add-on pack called Wii Fit Plus at costco for $15 and it is great to have because you can choose from "workouts" of various combinations of moves or list your own, then do them all sequentially with out going to the menu again and again.

We've had the wii since last Christmas and we usually go in spurts when using it. I actually used it today for the first time in a month because it's raining outside and couldn't go for a walk. My daughter uses it too and she loves it. They have alot of fun games and you don't even know you're working out. My faves are advance step, tennis, golf and bowling. We've rented a few games for it also and those were really fun too.

The Wii is SO fun! The hardest workout games I've gotten are my Fitness coach and the biggest loser.  The Wii fit is fun but it's not really an intense workout--but its very fun and encouraging to get you to weigh and keep up with stuff :)

I have a Wii and I use it alot but then again I'm a gamer... If you're interested in video games its probably a worthwhile investment.  There are a lot of fun games for people of varying skill sets. (De Blob is awesome).

As a weight loss tool its meh.  If you're commited to working out Wii Fit could help a bit but there is nothing you could really do with Wii Fit that you couldn't do without it.  They have exercises like push ups, lunges and such and stuff like jogging.  Its useful I guess for making exercise a bit more palatable but if you have a gym available for you that would probably be of more use.

The sports games (tennis, bowling etc.) are very fun but they're designed as games and not workouts.  They're fun but not physically intense enough to really cause any weight loss.

So long story short.  If you want a video game console that can also provide a bit of a work out its worth it.  If you just want a work out though you could probably find a better investment.

i have one

it was really fun the first week but it's been pretty much gathering dust for a year

i might get the jillian michaels thing

I have one and I use it for Wii active, which is actually a pretty good circuit training work out. It keeps me from cheating because it makes you move through each number of reps. You can also create your own work outs to mix it up a bit. I think I want to also get the biggest loser one and check that out. I don't have wii fit or the balance board thingy. I bought the wii active since I heard it provided a better work out, which from the sound of things, it does.
