Wii Fit for exercise?

Quote  |  Reply

I just began using Wii Fit in combination with my new and healthier eating habits.

I have been mixing up my 30-40 minutes on the Wii Fit by using the strength training, yoga, and aerobic exercises. Maybe I'm just out of shape, but it makes me sore in places I didn't know I could work.

Anyone else using or has used the Wii Fit?

I don't get much time to go to an actual gym, so I thought this was the perfect Christmas gift!

How much is the wii fit? I saw a commercial for it the other day and was like, "huh I should buy that." Is it really worth it though? And I don't have a wii. Do I have to buy one for it or does it come with it? I know nothing about this. How many games can you play with the fitness thing? I know there is yoga and running and boxing, but is there anything else? Just wondering. Thanks.

If I could get a years membership at a gym, with no monthly dues, open 24 hours a day, and close enough i can help my son with home work while dinner is cooking, I just might get it.

Point is - not every tool is suitable for every user.  The high cost of gym memberships near me keeps me from going to the gym.

There is also one other important fact that people seem to miss quite often.  Not every one wants to have a body that looks like a fitness models.  Most of us just want to be healthy and look decent in our clothing.

There is no need to go to a gym to be healthy.  The insistance that gyms are the only route to true physical fitness is part of the reason we have so many people who are unfit in North America.  If more people understood that fitness can be obtained with nothing more than your own body and feet, maybe a few props from home, there would be less fitness anxiety.

I dont go to the gym.  But I know for a fact that my health and fitness level do not depend on it.

In just over a month I have:

lost 2 inches off my hips and waist

lowered my blood pressure 30 points

lowered my resting heart rate 12 beats a minute

increased my endurance from 5 minutes of walking to walking endlessly

lifting 2lbs weights to 20 (we dont have the weight bench up yet...who knows how far I will take it)

from having knees so bad I could no go up stairs without pain, to running up stairs without pain or breathlessness.

The point is, the real fitness does come from a gym or a wii fit.  It comes from hard work that can be done for free.

I agree with everything you said. Goals vary, levels of fitness vary, the tools we use vary. My only point is that some tools are better than other in a perfect world. When I say perfect world, this means that if you could do wii fit for an hour or go to a gym for an hour. Your hour at the gym is more efficient and effective.

I tell people all the time that their fitness or health program should be designed for them personally and that it should be designed around their goals. And it sounds like you are doing just that. So, keep up the hard work.

Wii Fit with tax is about $100.  You have a balance board with which you can then use with other games.

Yes, and my son enjoys Wii Fit with me.  he doesn't have the stamina to go jogging/walking 3 miles with me and he isn't allowed in the gym with me.  We can do Wii Fit together and have a lot of fun.  He has dropped a few pounds without changing his diet and lost his pot belly.

^ that is exactly what kids need. Maybe it will motivate him to go outside and ride a bike and run around and play tag with the neighborhood kids. Ahhh the good old days.

I think that Wii Fit is an excellent game!  It motivates me and my daughter.  I have lost inches off of my waist using the hoola hoop game.  I also like to do the free run on a rainy day.  It is a nice late night supplement to other forms of exercise.

And yes, it makes you sore in places that you did not know that you had muscles.

I also like the BMI tracking.

As a personal trainer, one might think I am going to post about how ridiculous wii fit is..but I'm not.  The MAJORITY of people in this universe do NOT belong to a gym. The MAJORITY of the people in this universe are sedentary.  MORE people own video consoles than gym memberships. If Wii fit gets someone MOVING, when otherwise, they would sitting on their a$s, then I'm ALL for it. If it includes getting the whole family laughing, moving, enjoying each other and enjoying exercise - no matter the level - then again, I am ALL for it!

ALL MOVEMENT IS GREAT!

Besides, I can now rival Joe Perry of Aerosmith thanks to Guitar Hero. ;) ;)

Well I have been using my wii fit for over a year now and I still use it more or less every single day. I got my wii fit last April here and have lost about 60lbs since starting it. I started weight loss in January 2008 and from January to April I lost about 10lbs, got my wii fit and the weight dropped off me. I was totally sedentry and had no confidence to go to a gym, so the wii fit seemed perfect for me.

Now I do 20 mins step areobics, but use 3lb weights for each arm, I then do 10 mins of hula hoops, 15 mins of muscle workouts and 15 mins of yoga every morning and I have also toned up lovely.

Thanks to wii fit, I now play badminton, I bought a bike and go cycling regular and I enjoy walking. It has certainly been a great gateway for me. I don't think I have ever been so fit, and have never been as slim as this in my adult life.

I had tried lots of "diets" before, joined gyms, took up swimming and always got bored and gained back more than I lost in a short space of time. The wii fit has tracked my progress and kept me interested. I love it. I have never had any problems with it what so ever. At the end of the month, EA sports active comes out and I am getting one!!

Forgot to say, as with any exercise program or piece of equipment, it is only as good as you use it. I can say I have gym membership and people will clap, but I don't use it so whats the point? Wii fit will only work as well as you use it and the effort you put in. If you work hard at it, and encourage yourself to do that bit more every day, it will work. If you hula hoop for two mins and slide it away, it won't!

^I agree! when I used my wii fit religiously I found that i lost weight quicker. I am also excited for EA active! I already reserved mine.
