Warmup
I begin with some light yoga. I run through all the yoga poses 1 time, which takes about 30 wii minutes
Strength
The strength training is really what gets me. I can do just about all the exercises except I use a modified V -- I keep my head and shoulders on the ground and lift my legs to 45 degrees. I also do NOT do pushup and side plank. To be honest this exercise is hard for me. I have bad wrists and simply can't seem to do it!
Aerobic
Far and away I like the areobic exercises the best! After a Yoga warmup, I usually jump right into the "Free Run" or "Free Step". I like to watch movies while I work out. I often do 30-60 minutes. I've also gotten some weights. Ihave 10 lb strap on weights for my legs (5 lbs each) and 3 lb strap on weights (1.5) each for my arms. What I found is that as I began to lose weight, the exercises started to get "too easy"! I wasn't sweating anymore, so I got the weights to add resistance. Im going to keep adding back on what I lose-. Whats incredible is feeling so much ... lighter! when I take off the weights. I can't believe I"ve actually lost that 10 lbs. It seems so heavy!
Cool down
Usually another 10 -15 minutes of yoga, ALWAYS the candle balance game for the very last.
How about you guys?
wow -- I'm not that organized! it really depends on when I'm able to get it in. In the mornings - I'm shooting for 30 minutes of aerobic - and usually do one of the following.
advanced step - 4 times (20 minutes) or free step (20 minutes) followed by a 10 minute run or rhythm boxing
rhythm boxing and a 20 minute run
if I have the time - I'll do 2 yoga and 2 strength training - and I can't do the pushup or side plank either
balance is more for fun -- and definitely competitive in our family!
I really like the stepping routine and the running routine. The boxing is good for upper arms. And I enjoy the soccer game for balance. I mostly do the aerobics on the Wii Fit. The other stuff I do for fun, but I'm not too much into yoga or strength training, once in a while for spice.
hi Clara -- I'm not very good at the soccer game
but will give it a go once in awhile. I'm surprised how much of a workout the rhythm boxing is as it doesn't "look" like much -- and it's a great way to get my arms moving.
I guess I haven't spent enough time with the wii fit yet, I haven't seen a lot of the exercises that everyone is talking about.
I did enjoy the running, and the yoga, but my center of balance isn't all that great....yet
Yeah, my arms were sore after boxing... not sure if it was just that or when I did the tricep extensions... either one, they did me in for the next few days.
I'm pretty good at the soccer game, and not good at any of the other balance games. The bubble one is impossible once you get to that fork in the river, hahaha.

I like the stepping routine and running routine too. I wish they were longer though and that I could "string" them together to make a good workout.
I agree, restarting it over 6 times to get 30 minutes is a pain. I hope they make more games for the balance board... like more stepping...... it would add some variety to it......
the restarting is probably my biggest "complaint" although I can live with it. The other thing is with the yoga and strength training, I want it to "link" to the suggested exercise for the "complete workout"
I just purchased the Active Life outdoor adventure -- since I'm "new" the activities aren't very long yet - but they are at least as good of a workout as wii fit -- and there are things to do competitively or cooperatively with a 2nd player as well. It doesn't use the balance board -- but a mat kind of like DDR.
I also pre-ordered the Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum (uses the balance board) that is to be released at the end of this month -- you can see the trailer at... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZb8463RLw0&nb sp; There are rumors that it's going to be pretty popular -- and potentially hard to get, and I'm going to be on vacation when it's released - and will surely need it when I get home!
Thanks for reminding me about those other two games. They sounds awesome! I watched the Biggest Loser every weekend, it really motivates me!
I'm not that organized either! I make sure I do the Body Test every morning before I go to school and do at least 30 minutes of excercise. Usually it's the free step while watching TV. AND I do close to 3000 steps every time :D.
The balance games are SOOO hard! I pretty much suck at them :). The only one I can get done is the Ski Jump and the heading game. Can someone pleaaase explain what you have to do at the Zazen one? I can't get more than 30 seconds and it also tells me I'm a couch potato :(. How can I get more than that? I keep perfectly still EVERY time!

Cyndid-- as you play the different games in each of the sections you will unlock games and be able to play them for longer periods of time. FOr example, playing the yoga games might unlock a new strength game. Playing a strength game might unlock a new balance game. Successfully playing the 30 second version 10 times might unlock a 3 minute version with more reps.
You will find that as you play and become more familiar with your Wii Fit, you will unlock new and fun games.
The posture of zazen is seated, with folded legs and hands, and an erect but settled spine. The legs are folded in one of the standard sitting styles (see below). The hands are folded together into a simple mudra over the belly. In many practices, one breathes from the hara (the center of gravity in the belly) and the eyelids are half-lowered, the eyes being neither fully open nor shut so that the practitioner is not distracted by outside objects but at the same time is kept awake. -- From WikiPedia
Zazen is hard on the WII fit until you figure it out.
Zazen is measuring how "still" you are... it will track minute changes in your center of balance, weight shifts, etc.
You can see examples of Zazen at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rh8Fc3ecd8

I personall sit cross legged, or just sit on the b oard in a comfortable way with my legs extended in front of me. I take time to do some deep breaths and become comfortable BEFORE i begin the exercise.
The game is that you sit for 180 seconds, very still, concentrating on your breathing and watching the "flame". If you are having trouble, try turning the sound down. The sound of the buzzing fly, the footsteps, and the coughing (from the tv) are all "distractions" that might cause you to shift, ever so slightly.
The more you wiggle, shift, and change positions--the more the "flame" will wiggle.
This is a great thing to try with a REAL flame. What happens is as you move your body, even slightly, you move air around you and that moves air around the candle causing the flame to flicker. If you move too much, the flame may even go out! It is hard to find your "balance point" where you are balancing on your "SITTING BONES" and your butt so your head is balanced on your neck, your neck balanced within your shoulders, on your spine, and your spine within your pelvis.

Does Ultimate Outdoor come with the mat?
I am also considering getting Jillian Michaels' Wii game.
I got Wii Ninja or Karate something or other, and it has an EXCELLENT 10 minute guided "meditation" on it... I haven't played it much though to see what else there is.

Yes, it comes with the mat -- supposedly Active life will be releasing more games for it as well. The mat was sliding on me last night a bit -- I need to figure out how to make it stay on the carpet. It wasn't sliding dangerously, just enough to where I suddenly wasn't where I'd started! Active life is also much easier for my 7 year old to do and be active than wii fit.
I will probably keep "exercising" with wii fit everyday and supplimenting with active life until I see how long some of the activities are.
Now for all you Active Life outdoor adventure users, is there a weight restriction to this game? Cause my Dh is not too thrilled that he can't use the Wii fit much on account his weight is higher than what the restriction is.Please let me know
Thanks
Cyndi
I haven't been able to find a weight restriction -- in the book, online, or on the actual mat -- which I find odd -- I would guess it's similar capacity to the DDR mat, does it have one? I can't find one for it -- hmm....probably something I should find before we have people over tonight. It has to have a higher tollerance than wii fit -- and anything will seem like more because you actually jump on it.
I love to start with advance step and boxing. The boxing has sculpted around my collar bones and shoulders nicely. I do about 5-10 min of yoga and I mix in the strength training. I like to do the pushups and side plank. I have no upper body strength so I can usually do only 6 reps. I have killer ab strength so I can do close to 20 of the jackknife crunches. I try to do the challenge against the trainer usually I do pretty good on that. I havnt been on my wii fit in over a week though. I saw alot of improvement when I got it. I say my least favorite thing to do is the running in place. I always wanna just jump on my tredmill so I can keep pace. Does anyone eles have issues with that?
I love the step aerobics, They really should make it longer. I wish there were more aerobics games but the yoga and strngth traiining are fantastic.
I also use weights on my arms.
I haven't heard too many good comments on Jillian's new game but I am going to look into the karate that should give you a good work out. I bet they come out with a bunch of new games.
