Wii Fit, does it really help?

Quote  |  Reply

I recently purchased the Wii Fit, for my Nintendo Wii.

I have had some good results and I have used it just about everyday.

What I want to know is, will it really benifit me in the long run?

Or is it truely just like most other activities/games, I have noticed that there are extremely limited activities that you can do, it is mostly light cardio, and arobics.

I have found it great to help me keep balance when I am stretching, and doing my Yoga poses more effectively.

If it does have a more positive effect, how often and how long would I be recommended to use it a day to receive best results?

I think every little bit helps. But if you're wondering if the wii fit workouts are intense enough, well that really depends on the person. If you feel like you had a good workout then yes, its helping. If you feel like you're just going through the motions and its not really doing anything, then no, its not. And keep in mind that any exercise you do will lose its effectiveness eventually. The human body is amazingly adaptive.

My husband uses our Wii Fit for about 45 minutes a day along with calorie counting. He's lost over 40 pounds since the beginning of the year.

I didn't start really losing any weight until I got Wii Fit - it has been a great tool for me... if only because it scolds you for skipping too many days! It's helpful for me to be able to get on and see my weight and BMI anytime. I've always been told not to weigh myself while trying to lose weight, but I think that it works.

Personally, I'd say that if it gets you off the couch and moving, then it's a good thing.  On the whole though, there's "better" things you could be doing.  By that, I mean that they do more for improving your fitness levels (and burn more calories) in a given time period than the Wii Fit does.  As someone else mentions though, it also depends a lot on your level of fitness.

I use my Wii Fit to weigh myself virtually every day.  I find it very useful for tracking my weight.  But I haven't done the exercises in months.

What I like about it is that it has you set a goal and it tracks your progress. I think people stick to their workout program better when they set goals and track their progress. I don't do the wii fit exercises too much anymore, but I use it to track my weight.

I personally didn't really find it challenging enough.

Absolutely every little bit counts, and if it's wii fit or no exercise then hit up the wii fit for sure, but I'd rather go to the gym and burn way more calories and then play wii games I actually find fun (Zelda! XDD). To each his own though!

I find the Wii Fit really useful at times like this - because of plantar fasciitis  I haven't been able to do any hiking since Friday. On Saturday I could not walk, I could just about hobble. Wii Fit came to the rescue with the hula hoop aerobics.

personally for me, wii fit didnt do much, BUT with ea active and their 30 day challenge i managed to lose LOTS of lbs!  id definitely go with that game instead.
