Wii Fit for Old Crippled Fatties! yay!
I have heard repeatedly that wii fit is good basic "moving around" exercise for the very unfit, very fat, old, differently-abled folks. I've exchanged ideas and read everything I could find in this group (not much OK...? Nothing since Oct 10!
). Okay, all this time I've been "pining" for wii fit...months...and my (darling) children gave it to me for Christmas
! but it was out of stock until ...Monday finally I got it, yay
.
I've been reading that it "weighs light" for most folks.
I'm heavier on wii fit
. It inisists that I do a "body test" every day, and I'm not liking my evening weight compared to the (morning) weekly weight I do for my Challenge
. I'm on Day 3. Things may smooth out for me, or not.
I went to look at my strength training options, and with my size, ancient inflexible ligaments, and arthritic hip...I am afraid to attempt even one of them
.
It made me stand on one foot for a balance test (not training, just a test), and that was very scary too, even though I stood on the "good" side
.
I did get 4 stars ****
in breathing. I did the first yoga thing. I'll try that again tonight.
In addition to wii fit, I use my recumbent bike for almost daily warm up and almost weekly cardio. And I'm planning to incorporate the seated full body workout at least once a week. I have an exercise ball and some free weights I use for the full body workout, and I have used them a few times.
Anyone else in this group an OCF? Got any hope, hints, happy thoughts????
I got on again last night. Again showed a gain 1.1 lbs. I deserve it, and it is sad, but I'm still pumped that I am doing it. I want to keep it up daily. I've been pretty successful adding healthy choices to my day, one at a time.
I need to look at my food choices this week, and find better alternatives. I had 2 pig-out days. But I have also been on my bike every day but one, and on the wii also every day but one.
Last night I did some breathing again. My "wii age" has gone down to 41. (starting at 70, then 60)--so I've at least lost 29 years! this week, plus 18 years off my belly button age.
Well, I'm an old grandma who is trying to get in shape and lose some weight, and I'm having loads of fun with my Wii Fit. I can do most of the yoga exercises, and it's always fun when you get enough time in the fitness back to open up a new exercise. I am actually lifting weights (doing NROLFW) so I haven't done much of the strength training, but I have tried some of them.
I love the hula-hoop even though it makes my hips ACHE!!! And I have fun with the step and some of the balance games. My husband is also doing some of them, so it's fun to try and beat each other's scores.
I have trouble with anything that involves standing on one foot. My balance stinks and half the time I have to put the other foot down (or fall) so I get scolded. But I have been getting better over time. I've had mine since Jan. 15 or so.
Hey, karozel! That's the spirit!
Actually, the wii says you can hold onto something to steady yourself on those 1-foot things (and other balance tests).
I am posting because I think it's actually working! I think my sense of balance (which was once superb through no fault of my own) is coming back! I actually found my little red dot in the middle of the yellow circle, stock still, and I felt so calm...for a second there. It felt good.
I finished the downhill slalom with no misses for the first time. I've been using mine for 15 days. Every day I take a body test and do something. Since I used to do nothing when I got home from work, this is much better. Every little bit counts.
I tried the hula hooop, but I couldn't catch the ones they threw to me! How do you do that?
With my arthritis and general unfitness, I'm scared to try most of the strength training or any aerobics except the hula hoop.
Good for you! I know someone else who is following those "new rules" lifting weights. Maybe someday I'll get that strong. Good going on the yoga, too! I haven't tried but 2 or 3 poses so far. Yesterday I thought I'd pulled a muscle in my hip doing some stretches. It is very frustrating to be so weak and clumsy...but with wii fit, it's getting better.
Me again! My wii fit "age" was 37 yesterday. I am steadily losing weight (I love the graph). I don't do much, but it seems to be working. Plus the games are fun.
Yoga is pretty much the hardest thing I try.
I'm sorry this group doesn't get more hits, because I'm sure there are a lot of wii fit users out there. oh well. I like it.
My wii fit age is 37 again! That makes me smile. I have lost 2.6 lbs this week, and I am definitely more active and learning to have better posture and center of balance. I haven't unlocked much, and most days I'm not up to strength training or aerobics. Probably a good thing with my center of balance thrown off by my arthritic hip, and generally not being as steady as I like to think.
I do the balance games, and yoga. I think the beginner ski slalom is my favorite.
Wii fit--I am a confirmed fan. Before I started on wii fit, I had some idea that I was less steady on my feet and more clumsy than I remember being...wow. I have improved and I can feel it in my core muscles, in my posture, how I stand, walk & climb stairs. I went to a funeral Saturday (wonderful celebration of a recovered/redeemed life) and I actually stood up (afterwards, you know all the people you haven't seen in days, months & years) for at least 30 minutes! I formerly could not stand up for more than 10-15 minutes without serious discomfort and repercussions for days. Now, a couple hours rest, and I was right as rain--rarin' to go.

After years of limping through life on an arthritic hip, I am walking straight and standing tall because of wii fit! I am losing weight and getting more active because of spending just 10 minutes a night doing "balance games." I even found one I was good at!
I swept & mopped my own kitchen for the first time in maybe 10 years! Yeah, it gets pretty bad...I wondered what it would be like to do no housework...and it sucks. I'll never (thank God!) be a clean freak, but now I can hope to reclaim my house and home...so I can have friends in.
It was tough to make myself do the wii fit last night, but I did get in my 10 minutes! I have not been sleeping well--couldn't be all the alcohol and pastry I ate over the weekend! Must be some dread mystery disease!
Today a snuck in a nap at noon, and just completed a 30 minute Office Workout. I can tell I am not well...but I will probably try wii fit tonight anyway. What's the worst that can happen?
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
