Im wondering.

Ive heard around that when winter comes, because of the cold, you "burn" more calories or something? or you need to eat more because your body wants to keep itself from getting too cold??

lol I dont know if this is true, though I do tend to pack on some pounds during the holidays! - I mean heck who doesnt? I LOVE holiday food, so gaining those few pounds are not nearly a worry for me  lol but I do grow curious as to why people get so hungry during this time of the year.

but is that true? Id like to hear opinions on this :)

I think there are just two main factors contributing to "winter pounds".... #1 is the constant holiday food and parties. #2 is the fact that when it gets cold and snowy outside, people stay inside more. So they are not moving around as much.

most people have some form of heating or at least put on warmer clothes during the winter... so they are not really burning all that many more calories just from temperature. but I think you are right in that we want to eat more when it is colder out...basic instinct?

yeah, you're right.

I dont know why, but for example, during summer I got less urges to eat late at night...but since it has been getting colder here in Spain, I actually get hungry at night...tummy rumbling and everything. So I grew curious...

I love holidays though lol I just hate the new year rush to lose those winter pounds again haha

i think it's also the kinds of food you crave, i've even noticed it this week because it's down to (gasp!) the 60's here haha but weather is changing and i'm craving those hearty warm foods, like stews, pastas, i've made shepards pie and a vegetable pot pie and banana bread all this week.

and maybe instinctually your body does want to pack on some pounds to keep you warmer. The holiday foods are nice too.

This year it might work in our favor! :)

omg! banana bread.....I could just kill for one right now haha

and thats true...though I also crave the classic winter treats. Even halloween makes it hard to resist the evil candy :P

This year I might try to control myself but I wont think about it too much.

I find it too that now at night you tend to want to eat whereas in the summer you tend not to.

It must be that we stay indoors more cos its too cold outside, we aren't moving around much and there's less to do so you get bored and.... eat!

And like you say there's the holiday foods which are usually calorific so that doesn't help!

So not looking forward to the new year weight loss rush but don't you find that you don't think about that until after christmas and after you've splurged out a little bit too much lol. Gotta love the holidays!!! xx

I know lol xmass time is always like so joyful, you start noticing pants fitting tigther but you sort of dont care? lol you keep eating and eating...and then comes january...and its like....literally the nightmare AFTER xmass

ah well, new year, new beginnings, new goals :P holidays are still the best time of the year
