Wisdom teeth are out, its 6:00, and I've only managed to eat 190 calories today.... Please some food ideas?

Quote  |  Reply

Hello! My wisdom teeth came out this AM (... all 4...), whatever drugs they want to give me after IV sedation are in, and I'm not really hungry. I was pretty pumped, since I recently ate a 1/3 cup cooked oatmeal and a half cup of applesauce. However, I'm still a lil sore from my coaches lift, did a quick work out before they played slice and dice in my mouth, and I've realized that I probably need to eat more than that.

Does anyone have any idea of soft, cold stuff? I think I need a lil protein and fat, hopefully in a form that will tempt me into eating since nothing seems appetizing. CC food mavens don't fail me now!  (Please not icecream, it was pretty much the only food suggestion I got from the nurses haha, they were so sweet! Here's a shout out to any CC nurses- they made me feel so much better! Thanks for being awesome.)

something involving avocado?  it's soft...can be cold...and is full of good fats (and fiber).

How about making a banana and peanutbutter smoothie/milkshake? =)

Yogurt is always yummy - same with cottage cheese.

I ate a ton of yogurt and milk/fruit smoothies when I had my wisdoms pulled.  :D

i drank boost and ensure when i got mine out. another good option is cream based soup, like cream of broccoli, cheese soup, cream of mushroom, etc. oh, and mashed potatoes with gravy are another good choice.

the boost and ensure drinks though are very helpful since they have roughly 250-350 calories, which is basically a meal.

maybe you could try pudding, high in calcium and protein! yummy too!

Hm... i'm getting out the blender... the avocado idea sounds great for getting calories in, I'm thinking with some tomato, cooked veggies, and a lil whirl it could be a gazpacho of yummi-ness... i may run to grab one tomorrow!!!! I did have organic yogurt and fat free cottage cheese in the fridge... and I've got a bunch of berries... I'm going to try to make a chocolate strawberry smoothie!! Or maybe pudding.... haha, I think pudding is pretty high calorie, so that might be a good option for me...

>__< boost seems so attractive right now, but I try and eat natural foods, so the ingredients list makes it not do it for me, but thanks so much =) =)

I see I am too late to suggest pudding! Get the full-fat, full sugar kind, since you can afford the calories right now and need the extra nutrition...mmmm Cozy Shack rice pudding, chocolate pudding, vanilla pudding....

And whatever you do, NO STRAWS. No sucking at all if you can help it. I ended up with Dry Socket, and trust me that's as bad as it sounds.

Oh no!!! Poor girl.... you used the evil straws?! =O Haha as much as its killing me, I'm not using them ..... Oh my goodness, I forgot about KOZY SHACK! I used to love that stuff as a little kid....

You went for general? Wusie.  Tongue out

Anway, when I had all 4 of mine pulled I was eating oatmeal a lot... That and soups. For oatmeal I usually mixed it with cottage cheese, some greek yogurt and a serving of a really good horseradish cheddar cheese.

UD

I didn't even use straws, I just must have sucked some liquids in too hard or something....arg. I got them out about 15 years ago, and discovered Cozy Shack way after that, so I missed my opportunity to eat unlimited guilt-free delicious pudding! I just had something lame like Jello pudding snacks.

I thought of another thing, roasted butternut squash soup. It's good lukewarm so won't hurt your wounds with too much heat.

And refried beans warmed with some melted cheese.....I used to use that as a dip for tortilla chips, but alone it would be a good source of protein, fibre, fat, and carbs for you...all in one!

Haha not general, its called IV sedation or conscious sedation- basically its supposed to keep you awake but make you forget the entire thing (this could revolutionize my hard workout! haha.... I kid....) . I had it since they were pretty high up on my top two.... Yogurt in my faithful oatmeal? After cooking I'm guessing?

Victoriagirl- you are giving me so many good ideas =) I love refried black bean! I have a can from when bearitos organics were on sale at my coop that I saved for a rainy day/mexican craving... I believe they may be calling! Haha pudding and refried beans, its like finals week with all over again... such weird late night foods haha

scrambled eggs! you dont really have to chew them if you mush them up but they are good when you want some real food! i ate them alot when i got my wisdom teeth out. idk if ur trying to lose weight, but i lost a good 5-7 lbs with my wisdom teeth...just saying haha. i think my sotmach shrunk after

I had mine out years ago, but my mom was kind enough to make her version of ambrosia salad. All those multicolored jello squares floating in cool whip (it still makes me smile!). You can make it full sugar or sugar free nowadays. It was my only food for the first 3 days and it was nice and cool in my mouth. I tried a PBJ - lets just say that you shouldn't do that until the holes are completely healed!

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're really hungry and want to eat.

I had mine out and barely ate anything for a week - 10 lbs gone in 5 days.  Ugh.  The pain meds they gave me were so BIG that I could barely swallow them, so I didn't.  Then it hurt too much to eat, so I didn't.  Then, if I didn't eat before taking the meds, I would throw the meds back up, but it hurt too much to eat.  Nasty little circle.

Better to avoid it if you can, but one week of poor eating won't kill you.

I hope you feel better fast.

Haha, I've got my trusty eggwhites all ready for today =) I'm trying not to loose too much weight, since it took me all season to build up this muscle... hopefully I'll have more of an appetite today and can cram some more calories in me...

PS leslazz- thats such a cute picture with the ambrosia!

aw poor runner girl! i wish you luck with your wisdom teeth. whatever you do--don't try to run just because you feel fine (of course you feel fine bc you are on vicodin) i tried to run with my team and ended up being sick all day

with that lovely advice. mashed potatoes are so yummy! i just got a big microwave container of them (betty crocker?) and whenever i got hungry i ate some yum

Haha the not running is hard; i worked out at 7 am before my 845 extraction yesterday, but today is my first day off since.... the day off I took after season ended =D So 2nd day in 5.5 months! I want to run so bad but I'm being good.... I can't believe you ran right after though!  I can't imagine with how I feel =P

Wow...actually I am getting mine out next week so I am bookmarking this thread for then :)

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! :)Kiss

Eep! Good luck =) All 4? Are you going under?? Haha still in the curiosity phase here....

Nope...only 2....and I am also doing the IV sedation thing...I had surgery earlier this year on IV sedation and it was pretty decent.

Good luck and let me know how you recover!
