Wisdom Teeth Surgery Tomorrow

Quote  |  Reply
I'm getting my teeth out tomorrow, and they're using an IV so I can't have anything to eat or drink 6 hours before.  My mom says I should eat more now, and I've already eaten an extra bowl of cereal, two rice cakes, and an apple.  Is this ok to do?  Cuz I'm kinda feeling guilty knowing I've gone over my daily limit...perhaps I should've waited until after midnight...?

You shouldn't eat anything else if you think you'll be okay on eating until after the surgery.  Remember that you'll only be able to eat soft foods and you'll be hungry.  The important thing is, if you are going to eat more, eat sooner rather than later.  You should not eat after midnight.  The later you eat, the greater the chance of having residual food in your stomach during surgery.  The medications given during surgery can cause you to vomit and if you have food in your stomach it can cause life-threatening complications.
