Or someone promoting their ED or saying how FAT they are at 100lbs and 5'8"......

OMG I know, right?!  I have no love for the "I weigh 110 lbs and I just need to loose 10 lbs to be happy" ppl... It's like ya know some of us are actually busting our butts here to loose alot of weight and to do it in a healthy manner! I am ED free, thanks!

the ED stuff i can overlook a lot easier than every post saying YOU NEED TO EAT MORE YOU ARE CLEARLY IN STARVATION MODE!!

google the phrase-- 9 of the first 10 hits are forums like this one. now google something that is real, like diabetes. those are real websites. ever wonder why starvation mode only pops up on forums?

ACK!

Because professionals call it 'metabolic adaptation'.  Scientific studies have been done and it is a very real response to insufficient food.  But I would have to agree, the problem is exaggerated here.

No joke!  I'm afraid to ask a question (even if it's not about caloric intake) afraid that I just might get that answer somehow.

Amen sister!

Guys I just gained 10lbs it's all muscle, right? I mean I am using the elliptical for 30 minutes a day

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wishes the phrase "starvation mode" would die a rapid and well-deserved death. The starvation mode mafia around here makes me mad along with the "you must eat your BMR" crowd.

I also support the move to reduce the "1200 calories mode talk".

Also, as long as we're being candid here. I've noticed that a few people tend to be a bit crass and exclusive regarding other member's personal efforts.

Just because one person has more weight to lose at present than another member does not make such people more deserving to make use of this site, or any of these forums.

I have recently surpassed by goal weight, and I was really excited. I had wanted to post a thank you and tell members on here, but after some pretty negative feedback about my goals and reasoning behind it, I decided not to go too much into it.

I guess, in the end, advice is free for a reason.

Even though I am one of the one's who still has a significant amount of weight to lose, I kind of agree with the previous poster. Just because a person is only a few pounds overweight doesn't mean that losing it isn't just as important to them as it is to me. While I do sometimes get annoyed at people who are already at a healthy weight complaining about needing to lose 10 pounds, I try to be just as supportive of them as I would be for someone who needs to lose 100 pounds. And I try to follow the rule that my grandma taught me, "If you don't have anything nice or helpful to say, then keep your mouth shut."

I'm not saying that I don't sometimes come across as harsh or brutally honest, but I don't believe that being either is mutually exclusive with being helpful. Sometimes the hard facts are helpful even if it hurts to hear them.

We are all focused on weight/healthy lifestyle/body image.  It's kind of natural to obsess a little when we are trying so hard to achieve our goals.  When you watch everything you eat, weight it/measure it, analyze it for nutrition, put an emphasis on some sort of physical calorie burning activity every day ... you tend to become preoccupied with it.

We happily watch the pounds drop off - but when this process slows down, or stops alltogether, we try to find out why.  The forums offer helpful hints. Somewhere in all those tips and bits of advice there is something that can and will help you along the way.

Sometimes we drive ourselves a little crazy along the way.

I myself need to lose a total 114 lbs. to get to a BMI of 25. So this is why I selected a goal weight of 170 lbs.  Back on February 1st, 2008 when I started my lifestyle change the task of losing 114 lbs. seemed like an unsurmountable task.  I was heartened when I read in the weight loss forum how many others were undertaking a like task - and from time to time read a success story in the forum - it just felt so good to know there were regular folks out there just like me who had succeeded!

I'm now down 54 lbs, with 60 more to go.  When I read about someone's 10 lb. weight loss goal my initial reaction was to scoff, but then I remember 2 things: if I had tackled a 10 lb. weight loss goal when I was only 10 lbs overweight, I wouldn't be where I am now and secondly: 10 lbs. are hard work to lose, no matter whether they are the first 10, last 10 or middle 10 lbs.

I think we all deserve credit for setting ourselves a goal and working to attain our goal. We should try to be supportive of one another.  After all, we're all trying to achieve the same objective.
