Wishful Thinking
Hi, I've been on here for a long time, but wasn't active on this site. I joined this group because I dream of hiking someday. I have fibro and asthma, plus I'm way too heavy to drag myself up a trail. I'm actually legally disabled now, problems with osteoarthritis in my back got me there. But getting fit enough to hike a few easy trails is a great incentive! I'm 50 and I like to read and write. I really enjoy learning, so I watch a lot of documentaries. I love cats, especially our three, Skittle, Spats and Tyler.

well get out and walk around the neighborhood as you can, as you get fitter and lose some weight, your body will toughen up and eventually you will be able to walk through grass in a city park instead of on a cement path. Then keep trying and soon you will feel like taking hikes on level paths in nature areas, most state parks (in the US ) have some level paths for disabled people so you can do that, eventually if you keep trying, you will be able to take more rough hikes. I am 49 and not in best shape but I watched a younger woman who was also heavy like me (209 pounds) hike up to a boulder and try to get up it so she could continue on to where I was standing looking at a really cool natural stone arch. She tried once and quit. I had to try four times to get up the boulder but made it. I felt really sad she missed out on seeing the incredible arch because she gave up so easily and she was probably 20 years younger than me. Time is short so start making a difference today; even a small effort helps. And moving your body keeps it working better, my arthritis and joint pain goes away when I am keeping active. :-) Tabby
