so theoretically they say "eat like a king for breakfast, prince for lunch, and poor man for supper" but i find that the opposite is better for me. i am hungriest at night and definitely save the most for dinner. it's the one time of day i can sit down and eat a relaxing meal and i want to eat a lot! lol. i guess they say eat the biggest breakfast because you have a chance to burn it off during the day whereas by eating a big dinner your body has less of a chance to metabolize the food before bed. you have to do what works for you though. i eat a snack in the afternoon and after dinner, so that i never get too hungry. instead of adding calories, though, break up your food. if you would've had a sandwich and apple for lunch, eat the sandwich at noon and the apple at 3...
Sara has the theory down for you.  The idea is to eat most of your calories during the day.  I am not a breakfast person so I have a medium breakfast, a big lunch and a light dinner with a snack or two (for me its 300, 600, 300 with 200 calories for snacks if I want them - I try to stay between 1200 and 1400).

For me its all about the veggies.  If I do not eat enough veggies on any given day I can not lose weight.

Also make sure you do not go too long between meals.  Try to eat more often throughout the day.  So instead of three meals a day, opt for 4 - 6.  This keeps your calories spread out so you will not get too hungry.

People make their own schedule for food. As Sarah shows what some places say and what works for her, for me I have dinner the biggest as well. Breakfast is small, than lunch is medium and dinner is the biggest. I have a fruit between breakfast and lunch and then a  fruit between lunch and dinner.

I work out first thing in the morning and then I'll have breakfast. I don't know if this is right, but if I have dinner the biggest, I can use the stored energy for my workout in the morning.  That way I don't have to eat before my workout and waist time and get runners cramps.

Some people evenly spread out their meals through the day. You'll be calculating like mad to figure that out on the start.  But you'll be able to get up to 6 meals a day like that. So it really is what you choose to make it easier for yourself.

i think breakfast and dinner, but maybe if you eat dinner late you should eat a bigger lunch.

I think it just depends what works for you.

They say to eat more at breakfast because your more likely to burn it up during the day than if you ate it at night sitting around doing nothing like most do at night time.

However Im not usually hungry in the morning so I always have a small breakfast with about 150 calories then I have a medium lunch and snack and then Im hungriest at night so I have a good size dinner, though Ive cut back from my large dinners since starting the diet and I save some calories to have as a snack after dinner if im hungry later on.

I very rarely get to bed before 12:30am so for me the problem is I get hungry around 10-11pm which is when I have a small snack that ive saved my calories for.

i agree with everyone that you have to experiment and find what works best for you... I've heard that breakfast should be the biggest meal of the day, but i've also heard arguments for lunch to be the biggest meal. I've never heard that dinner should be the largest meal. I think b/c a lot of us tend to binge at night and b/c a full tummy can cause disrupted sleep, unless you have dinner early.

I would suggest trying different things and keeping a log of the effects. Do you have more or less energy with a big breakfast? Does eating a big dinner keep you awake at night? stuff like that. Also it does really help to eat something every 3-4 hrs or so, as was suggest above by someone else.

It's great if you can eat 6 small meals throughout the day, so better to not "save" any up. Just start off in the morning with about 250 calories for an early breakfast. A few hours later have a 2nd breakfast. Then have lunch, and later an afternoon snack. Have a light dinner, and then an evening snack.

If you have between 200 and 250 each time you eat you they should all add up to 1,450.

It really works for me to eat like this. I don't feel like I'm depriving myself since I'm eating all day long. Also brenda, since you're just starting out, make sure you go for healthy stuff. If you are only eating 1,450 a day you don't want to be wasting it on crap food. When you do your grocery shopping stick to the outer aisles, the produce section, dairy, lean meats (if you must--I'm a vegetarian), whole grain breads.

Good luck!

Thank You all for helping me out.  I am going to try to eat five or six times a day. Now I just need help on what types of food to start eating that will fit my cal. intake. Big sie Well off to see what i can find. Any sugestions as to where I should start with my food? Ok well, I thank you all.

Hi Brenda3100 you should start in the New Member area of the forums read everything you can.  Also read all of the calorie count plus diet forum information.  It will explain everything.
I totally pig out at lunch time (regardless of what co-workers say).  I abide by my 6pm cut off time.  No night-time munchies for me. I heard that you body slows down it's metablism and allows my body to assume and consume what's left in my body.
