WO Q for 20somethings who work
So im just wondering, for those of you in your 20s, with full time jobs, do you excercise? How often or how much?
I find it really hard to get the motivation to go after work.
Also, I dont mean if youre someone trying to LOSE weight, bc then its a bit diff.
thanks!
i cant personnally help you as i dont work although all i do is gentle walking , but i can speak of my friend and brother . my twin brother works 8 till 5 on a desk job he drives to work he has a bmi of 23 . he goes to the gym twice a week for an hour . he eats really infact i often wonder where he puts it all :) well and maintains a healthy weight. my friend is a receptionist she is 26 her bmi is 22 she has a gorgeous figure she dosent enjoy exerciose but she has a dog which she walks probably for 30 minutes a day thats it she is really well inproportion and toned she eats about 2500 aday and maintains . its ok not to work out if you dont enjoy it a 20 minute walk 5 times a week is recommended for a normal person not someone who is underweight to maintain a healthy lifestyle . why dont you just taker a short walk either before or into work? you shouldnt feel like you have to exercise to eat ,it just means if you exercise you need more. but having a walk might make you feel better about things , hope that helps h x xxx
I'm 22 and in part time work and part time education (so I'm essentially full time). Prior to my ED relapse I worked out between 3-5 days a week. I had to stop that because of the relapse so currently I don't exercise. I do, however, walk to campus and back nearly every day, which is an hour: I consider this to be enough for someone who is trying to gain weight! When weight restored I will probably go twice a week, at the weekends, if I feel like it. I too find it very difficult to exercise after work, which was how I knew the exercise was causing the relapse - ED was making me do it!
Don't worry about not exercising if you struggle to find the time. I agree that a walk every day should be sufficient. Maybe you could go in your lunch break?
You said NOT trying to lose weight, are referring to weight gainers, or maintainers?
right, ppl not looking to lose weight so i suppose those looking to maintain or if i may imagine, those who just WO for health or anyone not super into weight and numbers (like the majority here).
my friends r all or nothing, either everyday or never at the gym, so i wonder what others do. i mean healthy ppl, no offense, but not those underweight.
thanks!
i leave for work very early in the morning and i work in an inner city where NO ONE walks outside, so cant walk at lunch.
i just wonder, if youre not trying to lose weight, how active should u be, but im wondering what other ppl my age do also, im tired after work, and its a desk job!

Whether or not you have the motivation to workout and have a fulltime job has nothing to do with whether or not you're trying to lose weight.
Yes I workout. I have basic weights at home - so I do most of my lifting there, and I workout in the gym a couple times a week (usually at lunch time). I'm in my (late) 20's and work full time.
Whether or not I'm trying to lose weight is irrelevant. I want to be fit too.
oh, im sorry, i by all means did not want to offend, i just fogured if u want to lose weight then maybe the goal amount of excercise would be diff, more or something, idk
im just sick of it, i get bored really fast, its just hard to keep doing it i find.
i dont really have lunch time actually, what do u do at ur gym? im sick of the elliptical. u do like 30 mins i guess 2-3/wk?
thanks! anyone else?
I would say that if you are trying to gain, or maintain. I would just lift weights, and make sure you get plenty of protein after you work out.
This will help to make sure your gain is lean muscle. If you do too much cardio you run the chance of losing muscle.
You could start out by getting a set of 5 and 10 lb weights and work out at home. There are a ton of good exercises on-line.
im 5'3.75 and 110 as of last week, yes 5-10-15 more lbs would be ok but im not so sickly underweight, so no, im not asking for WOs for someone gaining, thanks
Then.... I would think that 2-3 times a week of cardio for 30 minutes would be good for you.
I work a full-time job, and I get bored at the gym too. But, the second I get home, I force myself to put on my gym clothes and go.
I heard a quote once that kind of sums it up for me "Even if you don't want to go to the gym, how often do you regret it afterwards? How often do you regret not going?"
I think the weights would still be a good idea for you. For a while, I hit a plateau (I was only doing cardio). When I added in weights I didn't notice a big change in my weight, but my body looked SOOOOOO much better.
If you keep forcing yourself to go... you will hit a point when you will miss it when you don't.
Good luck!
thanks
i found something on tv-a 10 min weight WO that im going to do
i heard that quote too, love it!
i just feel guilty if i dont go, but not that i wouldve had more fun if i went or anything like that
u do 2-3/wk 30 mins cardio and then i guess 1-2/wk weights? what ype of stuff do u enjoy? i need a change i think!
I like to switch it up a bit...
I mostly do the elliptical, but sometimes I will do the stairstepper or treadmill. It still gets boring to me, but really 30 minutes is not that much time at all :) Just load your iPod with some good music! Or read a magazine!
I do weights and cardio 5 x's a week, but I am really focusing on gaining lean mass and losing the fat.
I think if you worked out 2-3 times a week... you should do weights 2-3 times per week... Just make sure that you are working out your WHOLE body during the week.
hi
the elliptical is so hard!! i do level 12 w the arms, or resistance 12 maybe, not sure the diff, well its torture i find!
do u mean stairmaster? i know 30 mins isnt much and i do use an ipod, oh lord, maybe i have add, its just hard+boring, now im just whining i guess...
do u use a specific weight routine? so u do 30 mins cardio and some sort of weights 5/wk. when u do cardio, can u talk? i get out of breaht really fast it seems.
im just not sure if 2-3/wk is good or what to aim for, so wondering about other 20 somethings?
thanks!
No not one ounce. I am 23 and work in an office and am sedentary all day and have lost 40 lbs so far with diet alone. Its all about calories in vs calories out, doing no exercise at all my body still burns 2500 or so calories a day so I just eat 1500 or so a day and I lose a pound every 3.5 days.
hunger pains-interesting username!! thats a huge deficit!
im actually not looking to lose weight, i was wondering about ppl who want to maintain or just be relatively healthy, not super athlete or anything, just wondering how much or if at all they workout. i dont necessaraly want to eat only 1500 cals tho.
haha fair enough. good luck :)
Is salad high in protein?
Vegetable salad provides very little protein on its own; however, you can increase the protein content of your salad by adding high protein foods... Read more
