Woke up starving!

Quote  |  Reply

Good morning all!  I am writing this as my stomach continues to gurgle in hunger.  I have been working on getting my fat butt in shape and have been doing pretty well.  I have lost 20 pounds so far.  I have been eating around 2000 cals/day to go along with some cardio 5 days a week and weight lifting 3 days a week.  I woke up this morning starving at 4 am.  Usually I leave the house around 7:30 am and stop off at the 7-11 for a bowl of cheerios, yogurt, and a water to save time in the am, but I couldn't wait this morning and obviously woke up earlier than normal.  So, before leaving the house, I had a bowl of cheerios, some cottage cheese and peaches, and a couple of slices of turkey breast (kind of an odd breakfast, I know), but am still hungry.  I have been eating 4 meals per day with a mid morning snack on a regular basis and haven't run into this type of hunger in the 3+ months of being on this diet.  I don't know why today is so different with relation to my hunger when my diet hasn't really changed while watching my cals.  Is this normal?  Is my body changing and requiring me to start eating more or is this just an irregular thing that may rear it's head every once in a while.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I think you'd be pretty abnormal if you didn't experience the occasional day where you're hungrier than usual!   I think, if you're genuinely hungry, it's a good opportunity to eat a little more than normal and keep your metabolism lively.

Maybe redo the calculations with your new stats and exercise level and make sure that 2000 cals is the right level for you.  If the deficit is more than 700 then you could legitimately look at upping it.
When I started working out more in the mornings or well, working out in general, my body started to wake up famished. Breakfast has become a pretty big meal for me. I've taken the advice of the users in here and switched to eating oatmeal in the morning. I used to be a cereal lover (well, I still am) but it does nothing for me in the mornings anymore when it comes to keeping me full. Maybe you could try switching breakfast foods?

Waking up hungry is a glorious thing--it means your metabolism is working :)

If it happens all the time then maybe, but it could just be one of those things, or maybe there is something you are not getting enough of in your diet. Sometimes that happens to me, and I'll feel hungry until I eat what I need.

Sometimes I wake up a little hungry at 9am but sometimes my stomach wakes me up between 3 and 4 am starving for food. I listen to my body, eat something small and then go back to sleep.  I think if I am so hungry in the a.m. that is wakes up up I obviously need more food!  Maybe I did not eat enough the day before or maybe I just burned more than I thought. I am not sure. I do know that if I do not get enough protein the day before I will be extra hungry the next day.  I have asked around too and this is totally normal. :)
