How can I stay away from chocolate? It's too hard for me to just have a taste or just one chocolate kiss, without emptying the whole bag. Sometimes I just need to have chocolate! Do you think they'll ever invent a chocolate substitute that tastes the same and has 0 calories?
haha, that would be awesome! I personally will treat myself to a bar of dark chocoalte (not hersheys, UGH) about once a week. they say dark chocolate is actually good for you, more antioxidants. So i say that to myself when i eat it. :D That makes the chocolate cravings lessened because I let myself have it every once in a while.
mmmm your making me hungry...LOL.. chocolate.. yummmmm dove.. ok mouth is watering.. thanks..LOL
oh i'm sorry!!!! :( Umm....grapes...delicious grapes....and lean meats....and veggies.......you like veggies.....you LOVE veggies....chocolate is poison...veggies rain down upon you like angels kisses......
did that help you? :D It helped me! i want grapes now.

As a guy, I'm not a big chocolate fan when it comes to eating it.
I *AM* a fan of my wife eating it though.MUCH easier to deal with ;)
(did I say that outloud?)

I truly believe that chocolate will be my downfall. I always want it. Always. And I too can't have just a bit, I have to consume every bit in sight or else I think about it constantly and feel really deprived.
I don't like chocolate, I guess it's sort of odd, but I love vanilla.
My husband and I have a glass of red wine with about 100 calories (1/2 serving) of dark chocolate every night.... we look forward to it. It's easy to stay away from chocolate at other times, because I know we'll have it at night. :)
Go get some GOOD chocolate, expensive stuff I mean. After that, maybe you won't settle for the drug store kind and you won't eat a whole bag of "substandard" chocolate. Or maybe not...it's hard to say what level your addiction is!! ;o)
I've found that the easiest thing is to quit cold turkey. I don't advise this unless you're in the most extreme situation, lol. It's not possible for me to have a little bit of chocolate and leave the rest alone. I have to eat it all at once. However, once I've quit eating chocolate completely, after about 10 days I no longer have any cravings at all. It's just those first few days that are tough. But it IS nice to not think about it constantly.
I'm with brightestblue -- quit cold turkey.
If you fill your diet with whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables -- especially the fresh fruits -- I think you will be surprised at how quickly your body loses its addiction to chocolate.
I have chocolate around me all the time, and it has zero temptation for me -- I just don't want it.

Totally agree with Manewell. Your body does get used to not having it.
Saying that, I do have a bit of chocolate occasionally but I don't get the urge for it like I used to. I used to eat tons of the stuff. No more!

I work part time at a chocolatier...today is pretty much going to be hell for me, and I'm not even that big a chocolate fan! But being around it all day doesn't help haha.
When I do NEED some though, I always make sure I have a big bar of 72% dark choc in my cupboard, usually even just one square is enough!

I have a fingerful of Nutella and lick it off like a lollipop to make it last longer.
The chocolate isn't going anywhere, you know. What you don't eat today will still be available tomorrow. Try saying that to yourself a few times -- I find it helps me, and not just with chocolate. If I want something today, such as a chocolate chocolate chip muffin (which I used to get EVERY day for breakfast), I could have it, sure... but ... I really don't need to get it TODAY. Tomorrow can be soon enough. Rinse, repeat.
I still eat chocolate chocolate chip muffins, but only once every two weeks or so now. I still eat chocolate every day, but it's MUCH easier to limit it if I remember that hey, that chocolate isn't going to disappear if I don't eat it today -- it'll still be there tomorrow.

I agree with the 'cold turkey' crowd. I have a really hard time trying to stop eating sweets if I start - but I CAN choose not to start.
I live across the street from an M&M Mars plant. (No, LITERALLY I do.) The first week or so of no sweets, the smells coming out of that place were MURDER. What's funny is that NOW, the smell of the roasting nuts is WAY better to me than the chocolate.
I even had a coworker come into my office for a meeting with a creme-filled doughnut this morning and thought, 'that thing looks really gross, like a sack of congealed fat and sugar. Oh wait...' I would have gobbled that thing down gleefully two months ago, but today I was kind of queasy thinking about it.
I feel so stupid for having let the -- sugar high, sugar crash, must have sweets -- cycle own me for so long. It's so liberating to choose when I have a treat, and when I do not, and what the nature of that treat is - instead of wanting EVERY substandard, poorly manufactured, grainy treat to ever cross my path.
I find that I genuinely enjoy the things I eat now MORE than the things I used to eat.

I just discovered that Hershey's makes a 100 calorie snack pack. They are called Hershey Snacksters. They have 2 different kinds - Hershey and Reese's. They are both good......They satisfy my chocolate cravings.....
Hi All,
I'm new as of yesterday. I did find a recipe for All bran chocolate almond muffins that have 140 calories per. I haven't tried it yet because I haven't picked up whole wheat flour but I'm hoping the muffins will take care of the chocolate need.

How to handle the cravings?
Many of the new diets restrict (or completely forbid) consumption of whole groups of foods. More often than not, those "illegal" items are exactly those that used to be our favourites, so it should not be surprising if we sometimes commit the one or another nutritional crime. If it is chocolate that you cannot live without, then it is still better to break this one law, than to give up on rules alltogether. Namely, total deprivation of the past favourite foods is a common reason for giving up on dietary goals.
Temptations are a part of our lives, and usually it is the illegal things that seem most desirable. In case of foods, very few of them should be given a lifelong sentence. Instead, just give them house arrest at night, and let them out when the sun is shining and you are ready to work off your guilt.
And if you are going to commit a food crime, choose the one that you can get away with. For example, one jumbo scone has the same number of calories (700) as a bowl of oatmeal with peaches, plus a bowl of cornflakes with banana, plus an English muffin with jam, plus two pieces of toast with marmelade, plus two dishes of fruit. In other words, if there are two illegal food items you desire, then take the less illegal one. Or two of them, as long as their combination is still less illegal than the alternative. Basically, it is always advisable to try to avoid the nutritional electric chair.
Try to find new favourite foods. And if the old ones are still irresistible, then throw in some exercise and you will still be able to have an occasional piece of chocolate.
This is posted at this site, don't deprive yourself or you have a better chance of giving up! Eat EVERYTHING in moderation.
