Women only please! - Breast reduction even after weight loss
I would like to hear from anyone who has thoughts on this topic. I am considering a breast reduction in the future and have some questions. I already spoke with one person from here that did this. I would like to speak with a few more. We don't have to do it forum style. I tried looking into some forums specifically for this, but feel more comfortable here right now.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from women with a story to share.
Honestly, I didn't think my boobs would ever go away. I was a 38J when I started (at my heaviest). I am now almost 50 lbs down and I'm a 36DD!!!!! I never thought it would happen so I would wait until you are at your goal weight to make any decisions. I'm glad I waited :)
I was a 38D and went to a small B cup and delighted! I had the surgery last August and have lost about 70 pounds of 164 since then and they are fuller now and I would say a large B.
Best thing I ever did!
casiebea, thank you for your advise. I do plan on losing more weight so I will hold off. Seeing the H's, I's and J's out there I felt foolish questioning my size. Such a different perspective. Thank you for this thread, one of the better ones lately.
okay so your saying if your interested in dropping just a cup size or 2 it wouldnt be worth it??
Im 5'5 113lbs and i wear a 34D... so for me is huge i would like to be a full B or small C...even when i had my ED at 90 lbs i still was a small C... so i know i wont get down to thaT SIZE unless i weigh 90 lbs again(not happening)... ive been looking into this for years now and ive recently become more serious about it...
Any suggestions?
Do whatever you would like but it IS major surgery and does take a lot to recover from. For someone who is just going down a cup size or two seems like vanity to me. Most women who get a reduction is not for vanity purposes.
Edited to add: Oh I know!!! they have breast liposuction that is less invasive and perfect for a cup size! I would look into that if I were you.
it really isnt about vanity... i have horrible posture and i have alot of problems with my back.. i do amit that it would be alot easier to shop for tops, i hate the fact that i have to buy one size bigger than i am just because of my breasts...
I found this while searching for some answers. I had a breast reduction about 5 years ago. My doctors was of the " will take off as much as we can" variety. I just wanted to be able to buy a bra in a regular store so I didn't care. I went from a 55 E to a 48 C. I was about 270 when I had the surgery. I had tried to lose weight and couldn't. This was before I had been diagnosed Hypothyroid. I now am losing weight with my thryoid meds but my bra size is going up. I'm back to about a 54 c-d. I find I can't find jackets that fit across the shoulders too. Has anybody else heard of this? I mean usually you lose weight in your chest first. My mom is flat chested but my grandmother(dad's side) was large up front and heavy. Any clues?
I had a breast reduction five years ago. It was the best thing I ever did (next to marrying my husband and having my two kids)! It feels so much better. Exercising is so much easier. You do need to get to your desired weight first though or you will end up with extra skin when you lose after reduction.
Oh, by the way... it wasn't painful and in my case recovery was fast! My back and shoulders feel so much better and I can now sleep on my stomach comfortably.
It is nice to hear other peoples experiences and opinions about getting a breast reduction. I have been considering it for a few years now myself, but have not taken the plunge (somewhat due to my yo-yo-ing weight). At my smallest, about 125 pounds I was a 34DD, now at my almost heaviest I am 169 and range from a 34-36 G or H. (down 4 pounds at least, it's a start!) I even went for a consultation this past summer, only to have the doctor tell me that I MUST loose weight before the surgery. He wouldn't do it without a 10-15 pound loss, and I was about 165 at the time! So I guess its a little surprising to me to see so many people get it done so early in their weight loss, and what their results end up being after a large amount of weight is lost? Has anyone run into the same problem that the doctor just would not do it? And this is one of the most highly respected plastic surgeons (breast specialist) in NYC. So I guess I value his opinion pretty highly. I think at this point it makes sense to at least wait until im between 10-15 pounds from my goal which is about 125 and see how I am feeling. I still think at the very least I would be looking for a lift, but I think it will likely be a reduction as the back problems are really getting to me and I just want them to be gone! Ideally I would love to be a C, or possibly even a small D.
For those of you who have had the reduction done, did most of you get the anchor method (is that even the correct name?)? Has anyone had anything less invasive? Ideally if I can get back down to a DD, I would be looking to be a C, and I know with only a 2 size difference sometimes other methods are possible. And for those of you from the US, did your insurance fully/partially/not at all cover the procedure?
I'd appreciate any help/advice/imput! Thanks!

I had a breast reduction after I lost my weight! It was totally worth it!!! They use to require their own zip code now they are of normal size. THe only thing I recommend is that you make sure that you are at goal before you do it. I thought I was where I wanted to be weight wise (this was five years ago) but recently decided that I wanted to go down on weight. As one can guess I have lost even more weight there, and now the skin is a little looser. But it was still the best decision that I ever made. My back feels so much better. Exercising is so much easier. And sleeping is much more comfortable. And it's easier to carry my son around.
For those looking to lose only 1 cup size then a breast lift might be more of what they are looking for--a lift is less invasive, makes them perky and will make them go down by approximately one size. (This may be the best route for someone wanting to lose 2 sizes as well--especially if cost is an issue; a lift is cheaper than a reduction).
Well I'm looking far in advance at the moment there's about 40 or so pounds between me and the reduction if I want to do it right. I would play it by ear also, but if I end up back at DD (which I highly doubt that I'm going to be any smaller than), I want the extra weight there gone (relief for my back, etc.) and a lift just won't do that...in the long term at least. Cost is really the least of it I'd really just want to do it right and the most effective way possible (and a lift could be counter-effective because 10-15 years from the first it may be necessary to get another, which is discouraging monetarily and having the notion to go under surgery again). But does anyone have any info, or have had any other methods done of breast reduction such as the lollipop method (I think thats what it's called) where there is no scar under the breast?
I had a breast reduction done in 2001. That was the best thing that ever happened to my body. At first it seemed sort of weird because your tummy seems to stick out a lot more than usual (only because my breast were on top of it before). I was a eee and now I am a d cup what a difference. You will be delighted. The only side effect I would have to complain about is the possibility of pigmentation in the nipples. I had to go back and get them tattooed in the orig. color.
Good Luck I would say do it, be careful about your choice in surgeon. Really research before lying on that table
Thanks for posting such a great topic. Reading along, I realized my "problems" aren't as big as I thought they were. Surgery has been recommended by a neurologist due to back/shoulder/neck pain. But I'm very reluctant to try it. Size isn't my biggest issue he said, it's the size difference. My twins are naturally at least one cup different. You can tell even with clothes on sometimes. He thought this could be causing me to slouch at an angle, making my problems even worse.
Seeing everyone's comments and responses has given me lots to think about. But one thing at a time :) Lets lose some weight LOL!!!!
To tell you the truth. I had a breast reduction in 2005 and its wonderful. I stayed overnight and took about 4 hours for the surgery. I dont regret it a bit the only thing I do regret is that I waited years to get it done. Life is beautiful and I feel GREAT.... It's one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life...
Actually due to the problems of neck and back and shoulders is the reason I had the surgery done. Its wonderful and those areas feel much better and you even look better in your clothes as well. The surgery is about 4 hours with a one stay over in hosptial... It the best decision that I have made to go forward. I had mine in 2005 and my life is much better. I feel and look better..

Everybody I know who has had this done has been delighted with the results.
I had a breast reduction 6 years ago. I went from a 38/40 F to a 36/38 large C and now I am a 34c/36B I however had my reduction before my weight loss so I lost a bit more breast when losing the weight. I would never ever go back and change what I did, it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. It is a bit painful and uncomfortable for a while, but isnt any surgery? I do have before and after photos, if you would like to see them let me know I will pm them to you. Best of luck!and feel free to ask anything.
oops just realized I had already replied to this topic some time ago.....
