I'm 5'10" and weigh 138 lbs.

My doctor says this is underweight, but I don't feel and definantly don't look underweight.

Most women from 5'9 and up are not going to weight under 130 lbs.,
but I really wish I could.

Is this weight unhealthy?
If you are over 5'9", do you mind me asking how much you weigh?

I like my body, i really do... but when I went to a nutritionist she gave me a "5-meals-a-day food plan and I have been doing it for about 31 days (today) and I went from 155 to 148, so maybe i AM suppose to be smaller... I love how I am feeling though!

I see what you mean,

I feel like if I'm loosing weight by just dieting and exercise, then I should be smaller. You seem to be a healthy height and weight and it's great that you are so happy with it!

Thanks for the reply ;)

I've never been underweight :( but with that being said, my nutritionist said with my very large bone structure, and my height (5'9") combined with my ability to gain muscle pretty quickly and age, that my ideal weight was about 175. I thought this was nuts, so I got a second opinion who said 180! a friend of mine who is about 5'9" has small bone structure and is a bit younger than me, was told about 150 is right for her, and indeed when she became that weight she actually started modeling in miami.

long story short, it depends on 1) bone structure, 2) muscle mass, 3) age (teens are supposed to weigh a little less than women in their 20's or 30's) and a whole host of other components.  but yes, being 5'10" and under 130 is unhealthy, it would actually help you meet the criteria for anorexia. (not saying you are, but actually weight is a component to the diagnosis). 138 is still techinically underweight, but not incredibly so, just a few (maybe 10) pounds.

Wow...

I will definantly not consider aiming for under 130 Surprised

I've heard over 180 as well, which seems crazy to me!

I guess I'm easily mistaking loosing weight for becoming toned, which is my true goal.

Thanks for the reply, it really helped!

I'm 5'10" and 160, and very happy with how I look. Imagining myself under 130 is just scary, because I would look like a skeleton! Body types are different, of course, but it sounds like your goal should be fitness rather than a particular number.

Yeah,
I think I'm just really wanting to become fit, but I'm mistaking it as need to loose weight.

Maybe just jogging everyday will help?

I'm 5'10 and 139 but i def need to lose at least 5 pounds, maybe even ten, all from my belly and thighs, its such crap if im underweight then id like to see obese, thats crazy

I'm 5'9 and 142, I am a small frame so I'm looking to get down to 133 as my goal.. but as I'm really trying to increase my fitness to tone up.. Who knows about lb's...

im 5''8- 9 (havent measured in years i thought i was 5''8 and everyones like no seriously your TALL)  and i weigh 127.

I'm trying to lose weight as i used to be 119 and this was perfect weight for me at a uk10 (us4) and im now a uk12. not good. also my weight piles on my belly and hips so my arms and legs are relatively thin too.

I wouldnt consider myself skeletal at all at this weight. rather the opposite. you can definately pinch an inch off my belly...(and hips. thighs, upper arms!..)

It depends on your bone structure and how you carry your weight i think!

I'm 5'10 too.

I think BMIs are a bit general, and honestly, you know when your body is carrying more weight than it wants to. I think problems arise when you try to maintain a lower body weight than is natural for you. I think % body fat is the way forward. When I started I had a healthy BMI but 34% body fat which is quite high.

Personally I would be happy with 138 so long as there are muscles in there too

Maybe you have low denisty!

I'm 6ft and after calorie counting for a year I am at 148lbs and have been holding steady for about 4 months. This is where I plan to stay. I still wear a size 8-10.

I feel like I have gotten almost too thin in some areas (like around my shoulders) and people are starting to make comments that I look boney! But I still have fat around my stomach. To some extent it's just the shape I am always going to be!

I would suggest focusing on getting fitter - that's what I am doing to - and try to change my natural shape a bit to tighten up around the stomach.

Good luck!

Hi there, I am 5'10 and right now at 145. My goal is to get back to 130-135 where I was pre-baby. It has been two years since the baby, and the belly jiggle just isn't coming off so I decided to start really watching the calories. I'm hoping to see a significant result.

I am medium to smaller framed, but I know several tall girls who are large frames that weigh around 160. Personally I feel that would be too big for me. I got up to 165 being pregnant. But I do think as long as you feel good about your body, weight etc and are eating healthy (nothing extreme) then just keeping getting fitter. Tone up here and there and see if it makes a difference for you.

All that being said, I wish I could weigh under 130, but I think that passed after high school.

I used to weigh 120lbs and it wasn't that unreasonable i guess it just depends how your body carries it. For me 135 is the most I've ever weighed, more than that would be too much on me. I'd say that you could probably weigh less than 130lbs, but i wouldn't suggest going much under 125lbs.

I'm 5'10-3/4" and 137 pounds and I'm not underweight.  I'd like to lose more actually, down to 130 and see if it improves my flabby spots.

When you consider weight you have to take body fat and muscle into consideration because two people could be the same height and weigh the same amount, but the person with more muscle is going to be leaner and look better, unless they have a lot of fat and muscle. People should not go by how much they weigh, it's all about having a healthy percentage of body fat. Plus you have to remember that fat weighs less than muscle. Take me for example. I weigh about the same as I did a year and a half ago, but for the past year I've been running and doing strength training. So I have toned up, stayed the same weight pretty much, but have dropped about 4 sizes. So, anyways, that's what it all boils down to. If you weigh 145 but most of it is muscle and you have a healthy body fat percentage, then you are healthy.

By the way, I'm 5'10 and weigh 138 and have about 16-17% body fat
