WOMEN OVER 40 WEEKLY CHALLENGE

Quote  |  Reply
Ok, ladies from the women over 40's posting group, here's where we'll start. Everybody put your starting weight, how much water you drink on average per day, and how many minutes and or days per week you exercise and what that exercise is.

ADDED SECTION BELOW:

Then starting Tuesday June 26, post your weight (if you weigh daily, if not just state what day you weigh yourself), how much water you drank for Monday....and your minutes of exercise. BUT>>>>> keep track of it too...b/c on Monday I want you to also post a total for the week. The daily posts will tell the rest of us how much harder we have to work to beat each other, which will help motivate us!!!

Bump!

Getting hard to find this post!!
Hi guys!  I'm not checking in like I was when I had computer access but I'm still here and I'm still calorie counting and grabbing any opportunity to get into the gym (only 4 times so far, not so hot unfortunately).  It's too damn hot to walk in So. Cal right now so my walking-everywhere idea is out the window.  I hope you girls will be here when I get back to my computer, I'm gonna need all the help I can get after this vacation from walking the dog and my treadmill :(  Stay strong ladies!  Nancy
160.8 as of yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I mention that makes me want to go running? One more week to go to get the okay from the back fixer doctor!

I can taste 159!!!! A few weeks ago, with the back issue, I calmly accepted that I wasn't going to make it down to 155 by my birthday in Sept. I still have 19 days to go.......now I'm starting to think I just might make it after all.

WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO (that was a genuine southern yelp, all lady like of course)
Bump!
Bonna- Congratulations! You're nearly there and I think you'll make it.  You've had such 'good' reasons not to be successful and yet you're doing great. I'm going to use you for inspiration.

I don't have back problems; I have home repairs.  Every evening my husband and I work on wiring and floor leveling issues. It was supposed to be a one day project but my old house has many hidden issues.  I think it's been nearly two weeks since we riped up the carpet and removed all the furniture from my living room.  Any-who, we're up late every night so I'm NOT up early to go to the gym. I am finding muscles that I've forgotten about but I'm just not being as careful about my diet as I need to be.  It's discouraging because I haven't really been pigging out. I guess with my metabolism (age) and being close to goal weight there just isn't much margin for extra cals. I'm up about 2 lbs consistently this week.

wt: 138

water: not much and more coffee than usual

exercise: up and down steps and ladders 50 times/day

I think I'm just going to try and watch what I eat a little more carefully and leave the gym time until after the project is done. It should only be a few more days.
Thanks Chris, yes I think you are right, I think I'll make it or at worst be very close. That will be the end of Phase I of my goal and body renovation! LOL!! I really don't know what my "final" weight goal is yet.....but I know a few years back when I hovered around 143-145 I was starting to love my body again. If I could get to 135, I'd be thrilled.....I don't know if I'd want to lose any more than that or not........and to be that low would mean being at my pre-hysterectomy weight, in my early 30's!!

What I worry about is all this belly "fat" which is really a result of having too many female surgeries with the 'bikini' incision....4 of them to be exact. The skin and some fat just hangs down. If you look at my naked trunk, it looks like a frog........nipples are the frog's eyes, belly button -it's nose......my belly fat is the big ole mouth! I see it getting smaller and it's not as firm because I suppose the fat is slowly dissipating.......but what the heck will happen to that skin? This is all one of the reasons why I'm wanting to lose slowly, I've heard that helps prevent having excess skin. My arms, so far don't have excess skin hanging, they are just getting smaller and shaping up somewhat......but my belly........oh my! Also did I mention my love handles while shrinking, look totally wierd now? Left one is noticeably larger than the right one!!!

Somebody please tell me these same things happened to them and here is the quick easy fix!!!!!!!!
Oh boy, do I know what you mean about the tummy thing. I've had two C-sections and the dr. that did the second one thought he was giving me a tummy tuck or something. I was only 25 then and ever since the top protrudes over the bottom - even if I weigh 118! (and I'm not even thinking of shooting for that low.)  It doesn't really show through clothes but I've always been aggrevated that no matter what I did otherwise I wasn't going to look great in a bathing suit let alone a bikini.

I think you are smart for multiple reasons to loose the weight slowly. If you watch one of those shows where they do liposuction they always say it will take at least 6 months for things to tighten up. Of course how much they end up tightening is somewhat determined by genetics. Some people are just more elastic than others.  I hope you are very elastic!

Chris
Even at 118? sigh. I guess I'm stuck with it. Mine shows through my clothes, I mean it looks like I have a fat tummy. Sigh.
Hello Everyone!

Bonna you are all that missy! That is so awesome! You are my hero! I hear you loud and clear about the tummy skin.  I have just started to see it hang in the last couple of months and that was one of my motivators.  I just thought, 'what the heck is that?' I have 53.5 lbs. to go.  I hate to say that because it just sounds like soooo much! Just 2 years ago I was 175...ugghh! Lucky for me I am 5'8" or I'd be in rea trouble!

It's been a while so let's see:

weight: 201.5 (down 2.5 from last post)

water: not what it should be :(

exercise: walking for 4 miles almost every day.

I WILL NOT GIVE UP!! We deserve to be skinny!!!!!
WE DESERVE TO BE SKINNY!!!!!!!
Bump bump bump!!!

Everyone have a great weekend!!

WE DESERVE TO BE SKINNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bonna: a big congratulations on your loss and getting to your birthday goal.  It's amazing how exciting it is to see the pounds come off...........well, that sounds like we do nothing but sit back and watch............ha.........I should say, it's exciting to see the RESULTS of our hard work.

I ran to the scale many times today.........not an ideal habit to get into.........but I finally made my goal for the day, of 184.8.  whew.  I love seeing the 184 number.  Had to even take my earrings off.......and was ready to cut my hair off.........but I made it!!!
Where is everyone?!!!!

Well, I am finally in the 100's!!!!!!!!!!!

Weight: 199 (got on scale 2 x's once=198; other=199)

Height: 5' 8" (thank goodness!)

water intake: about 4 pints a day (better, but still need more)

exercise: walking 30 minutes at lunch and 45- 1 hour 20 mins. evenings. I was doing this a little sparatically (at lunch not at night or vice-versa, but have been religiously doing both now for about a week and a half).  Movement helps tremendously!!!!!!!

Going on a cruise on Sept 28th. Can't wait! My new goal is to get into the 180's.  Wish me luck!!!!!!!!
Congratulations wants2bhot & bdmullay!!!!  I am envious of you both.  You give me hope that if I keep at it I can achieve my goals. I have not seen the 100's in a looonnnng while.  I have 9 more pounds to go to do that.  You are awesome and the cruise sounds great!!.  I have been mainly posting on the other over 40 forum, but saw this today and it made me very happy.  I mentioned just a day or so that i have been consisent with my 64 oz of water and have lost almost 4 lbs since working out at the gym about a month now.  I'll take it - Feel Great!.  We DO Deserve to Be Skinny!! - Nicole
Good morning!

weight: 133.2 lbs

liquid: ~18 oz so far (I'll make 32 or so)

45 min moderate pace on eliptical, walked to work

I'm feeling really great this morning. Talked to hubby and he's onboard with my efforts. He has greater weight issues than me so it will benefit him greatly too.

Stupid question: do you think 'ideal' weight charts mean your weight dressed or naked? I realize it's not that important but I've always assumed dressed w/o shoes- like in the doctor's office. I'm sick of my wild daily variation so I'm going to naked to eliminate clothing issues. What do you all think?
Welcome green-eyes!!!!

You will be in the 100's before you know it!  Please do not give up! I gained 46 pounds in a short 2+ years.  I have a hard time with not looking back at where I was, and focusing on right now. Most people say the weight comes off fast at first, but my experiance was just the opposite. I started walking more and faster about a week or so ago, and that seems to have jump started my weight loss temendously!

Chris1208- I have always heard you should weigh yourself first thing in the morning completely naked. I know what you mean about the scale thing in the doctors office, but I think that is just a convienence thing. They are not going to take the time or effort to have you take all of your clothes off and re-dress. My doctor's office doesn't even ask you to take your shoes off! I think consistancy is the key here moreso than clothes/no clothes.  Do it the same way and time each time for the most accuracy! Just my opinion....hope it helps!

Keep up the good work everyone!!!! The support here is awesome!

Darn.

wt: 134.8

liquid: eh coffee

exercise: 45 minutes+ elliptical, 8 minutes fast walking (I was late for work!)

Well, the good news is that even though hubby stayed in bed this morning, I made it to the gym myself.

I already broke my own rule about weighing myself under the same conditions and did it after breakfast.  I don't think I ate a pound and a half of oatmeal! I'm not putting too much stock in it since I've been good about exercise and accidently got less cals than I should have yesterday. I'm going to keep weighing though because it's the trend that will predict the end result.  I think. shhhzz

I was at 3.8 miles on the elliptical when my programmed 45 minutes was up. Stuck with it to get to 4. Small increase I know but the right direction. My challenge, do just a little more than you planned, say 10%. Instead of an hour walking, do an hour and 6 minutes. Do it for a month and that's like adding an extra three days of exercise!

Thank you wants2bhot for the encouragement.  I am really proud of myself when I look at my activities log for the whole month of going to the gym and consistently working out.  It's really making me feel better about myself.  I am going to the beach for a week and I plan on riding my new bike, swimming, and taking long walks on the beach.

I do agree with the weighing yourself naked in the mornings, but I only do this once a week.  I can't handle the fluctuations.

I won't be able to post until next week since I will be on vacation, but wanted to wish all my Over 40 Friends a Happy and Safe Labor Day weekend!!  ENJOY!!

Nicole
Wt: 135.2

exercise: 45 min. elliptical

I'm trying really hard not to be TOO discouraged. I'm up two pounds since the beginning of the week. Perhaps I was dehydrated then. I KNOW that I've been doing what I need to do and that these short term measurements aren't that important but man, I'd sure feel better if it was going the other way! When I was 30 lbs overweight it wouldn't have made me blink but that's 20% of the weight I want to loose!
Hi everyone!! I have been gone this last month from posting. I have been reading your posts but my thyroid was all messed up and I was starving.  I gave up on the diet thing and now my thyroid is a little high. The doctors are working on it but I went back to the diet.  I gained 6 pounds during this becasue I was not trying.  I have lost three of it again and went for a 2 1/2 mile walk last night.   I sure wished they would get things straightened out for me.  I am still not feeling the best.   Chris I am sure those two pounds are not going to stick to you, you know how weight fluctuates.   I understand how it bothers you though.  I am one to get on the scales way to often and then if I do not see any results, I like to give up.   Just keep up the good work.
