women and shoes

Quote  |  Reply

On acount of moonikins drunk spur on the forums yesterday in which several comedy sketches were being posted; this one in particular: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUH34iqK7cI&am p;feature=related

It hit me that part of it (if not all) is true. Why is it that women have an obsession with shoes? Stands filled with them as if they were trophies. Out at parties they all look at each other and complement themselves on the pair being worn. I dont think any guys even look at the shoes girls are wearing.. they could be barefoot and we wouldnt notice. So why?

Well I can tell you that it aint about what the guy thinks

and not all girls are shoe obessed

(but they ARE pretty)

I don't have a shoe obession.  In fact, I hate wearing them.

Yesterday I bought my first pair of decorated shoes, and they're black tennis shoes with grey stars. Otherwise I've got black dress shoes, black casual shoes, white tennis shoes, and white sandals. If what I'm wearing doesn't match 'em, don't look at my feet.

Shoes used to be cute, but these days they're kind of scary looking.

Generalizations will get you into trouble with women every time!  Might as well ask why men collect ties.

I have 5 pairs of shoes, if you don't count my old athletic shoes that I use to mow the yard or the waterproof boots I use to play in the snow.  Athletic shoes, tacky sandals, nice sandals, white dress shoes and black dress shoes.  Women are expected to color-coordinate their shoes to their outfit and their season (at least from what my mother told me).  Men get to wear their black dress shoes with any color trousers - not so women, apparently.

And I agree with CD - the shoes these days are awful - I wouldn't buy them unless I had to.

I love shoes because I can almost always find one in my size (8). I'm overweight and clothes shopping SUCKS, nothing fits or it's too big or unflattering, while shoes are always nice to me.

Handbags too. Teehee.

agreed cpt bunny. it's like acessories, they're fun for everyone to enjoy regardless of weight. I actually have alot of shoes that I don't wear. Heels. they're usually cheap though so therefore uncomforatable. I tend to live barefoot or in my failsafe brown walking boots <3 or size 3 trainers with the "pride laces" as my friend calls em that i've had since I was 13. other than that though my shoe collection ranges from glittery dance heels (the comfiest heels i own) knee high, like 8inch heeled strapped buckled and laced red hooker boots, lime green heels, silver strappys, silver court style heels, pirate boots, black heels, red heels, haha a pair of lime green trainers, blue boxer boots, brown lace up heels...the list goes on. Shoes look good regardless of weight :D

To quote the movie In Her Shoes: "Clothes never look any good. Food just makes me fatter... Shoes always fit."

Not exactly the way I feel but I know for sure that shoe shopping never depresses me. Bathing suit shopping is a different story, however. I will rip your head right off in the middle of the women's clothing section if you look at me sideways. Haha just kidding. Kind of...

Generalization!!

I like shoes. My feet are sort of fat and wide, so I'm not big on heels, but I have a fair collection of nice boots and sneakers and whatnot.

LOL --those sketches were hilarious, weren't they?

I much prefer having one main pair of shoes (sneakers, mostly) to get used to and wear until they come apart. But then again, I am the kind of woman that always values comfort over aesthetics. And I loathe heels and only wear them when I absolutely must.

A blogger in his late thirties that I really enjoy once wrote this: "I like to think that the modern woman looks and feels excellent wearing sneakers, and sports an astonishing feminity on high heels, a few times a year.".

One word Shoes

Why are women allegedly obsessed with shoes? I don't know, why do some guys believe stupid stereotypes? My shoes are lumped at the bottom of my closet, certainly not on stands like trophies. And I don't have that many pairs. And none of the other women I know seem obsessed with their shoes either, it's not like they talk about them or anything. Turn off "Sex & The City".

It's the same strange stereotype that guys have a million watches/sunglasses/ties.

I have one pair of shoes and one pair of flipflops. I've never understood the shoe thing.

I talk about shoes to my friends! Well one friend, she actually is obsessed with shoes I like to show an interest in her interests.

...Men collect ties? o_0

Sounds like you go to boring parties ;)

I have a couple of girl friends that are into shoes, but I have some guy friends who are the same way, so it doesn't strike me as an especially gendered behavior.  Personally, I am lucky to own two pairs of shoes at the same time; most of the time I just wear the same pair of tennis shoes until they wear out.

And, to shanonna:  I think the ties comment was meant as a joke -- all men don't  obsess over ties (even though many men own dozens of them for work), just as all women don't obsess over shoes (even if they own quite a few).  I think the point was that generalizations about women are often easier for people to buy into than corresponding (and equally inaccurate) generalizations about men.

I like bags a lot more than I like shoes.

I know three guys that have more shoes than me. They seem to love collecting sneakers (Nike etc.). I buy cheapy $15-$25 shoes, their shoes are almost $100 each and sometimes more!! Surprised

woohoo payless!
