Any women starting p90x?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi,  I'm new here.  I'm going to start the P90X program on Jan. 5th.  I was wondering if there were any women out there that are either thinking about starting the program or already doing it.  I need to lose around 30lbs and hopefully this will work for me.  I know I need to change my eating habits so I'm going to try and follow the eating plan too.  Just curious if anyone has had great results with this plan.

I go to www.milliondollarbody.com and log my workouts with WOWY (Work Out With You). Everytime you log in, you get entered into a drawing for $300, $1000 or some other prizes. It's free to join up. From this website, I also printed off the P90X worksheets so I can track my reps and weight used (like Tony wants us to Wink)

Since I'm a little OCD, I also have a little pocket calendar that I write down which workout I did, how many workouts I've done and how many are left in my 90 days.

The only thing I write down is that I worked out. I don't record my weight used or reps. It's a good idea to, but I'm just aiming to do as much as I can everytime I do it. Based on that, I should be able to see and feel results by the end of the 90 days.

Just finished Plyo. For the first time (this is my third plyo workout) I've finally gotten the groove of the baseball pitching move!

I am not doing P90x but have been watching this thread.  I am currently doing NROLFW and will finish in a couple months.  I am looking out for something else later.  This sounds like a good program, but I am used to my workouts being 3X a week, not 6!!

Anyway - I wanted to chime in on using the logs.  I log my workouts everytime.  It helps in that the next time I do a workout I know how much weight to use... I forget what I use for each of the exercises... Or if I've been doing the same weight for a while, I know it is time to up the weight.  One of the goals in NROLFW is to up the weight every workout, which may or may not be possible!  I am sure the reps are alot less than P90x though.

I had to Google NROLFW: New Rules of Lifting for Women. I've never heard of it. What is the concept?

I also have to use logs. For basically the same reasons as yogagirl. I aim for 12-15, up to 20, reps instead of 8-10.

aclayton - NROLFW - the concept is lifting heavy.  It goes on to dispell the myths of women getting "bulky" from lifting heavy and also of eating like birds.

Anyway - The book is 7 stages, you do 2-3 times per week.  There are 2 workouts in each stage.  So you alternate between the two workouts until you are done with the stage.  The workouts are total body workouts, so you couldn't do them every day.  You need to rest the muscles.  It also works on "muscle confusion" as each stage has different exercises and number of sets and reps and specifically defined rest periods between sets.

I love the workouts and love my new muscle!!   I am just completing stage 5 and have only 2 more to go, so I need to find something else.  I just may redo NROLFW or do the original NROL - which my hubby already has.

How come you are doing 12-15 reps instead of the 8-10?

I'm doing 12-15 because of the "bulky" myth. So you're not getting big and muscular?

Nope....  I am doing 100 pound deadlifts and 30 pound dumbells each arm for incline bench presses.  95 pound squats...  I like my new definition, but it would definitely not be considered bulk!!

If you girls want to read something funny, go over to the P90X thread that the guys started. Funny stuff!

You're right, aclayton... those guys over there are hilarious (in a cool and motivating way).... a bunch of comedians over there! Tongue out

for a few days I thought this thread might've died, so I asked the OP if I could join them. Now this one has picked back up with a whole bunch of new posters and I'm posting on both! :S

I personally think we should all be on one thread- after all, Tony doesn't discriminate, he works the girls every bit as much as the guys!! :D

hey! How are you? Are you still at your goal, or did you do a goal reset?!

I think you'd like P90X- it's definitely a challenge. For the longest time I would lift weights at home and it was always the same routine. It was kinda boring and didn't last very long (like 20 minutes).

This program has you lifting some, but there are so many other cool moves that works lots of different body parts but it doesn't feel like work- don't get me wrong- you'll be exhausted, sweating buckets, and feel it everywhere. You'll be pitching baseballs, playing guitar, shooting hoops and doing lots of squats that only use your body weight. As well as a ton of other stuff.

Hey QM!  Yes, I am doing well.  I am maintaining still, but I have a new goal too!  My new goal is to build some great muscle!  Which I am doing with the New Rules of Lifting for Women program.  I started last Sept, and am seeing some nice muscle.   Just keeping a watchful eye for something else that would be well-worth doing!

I saw the infomercials on P90X and it looks pretty good.  I don't want to lose any of the muscle I've built though so I wanna make sure it is something I would want before investing!

Fellow P90xer here.  Started my fourth time through this week.  Just wanted to let you know...Plyo is still a beast!!!!   ;)

I'm probably not the best example, but if it'll help you, I can maybe post my before and after pics.

Due to getting crazy with my chocolate consumption, I've decided to try the doubles (I started Monday), even though technically if I were to do doubles, it shouldn't be until week 5. I'm on week 3.

Really though, the doubles is only an extra 45 minutes of cardio 3x/week. I'd imagine that lots of people would be active outside of the program too (like joggers or even people who have a physically demanding job). At least, that's how I'm rationalizing it ;)

That would be great!  I will look forward to seeing them!  I wish I had done before pics, but I think hubby would not like my posting pics anyway.  He is a little sensitive about that.

*sharp gasp*

you mean this is your 4th time doing the entire 90 days?? This is you isn't it?!! Admit it- you're real name is Dreya Webber!

:D

Heeheehee!  I'm not nearly as buff as Dreya! *sigh* One day... :)

So have you done the same routine each time (eg- classic, lean, doubles) or do you mix it up?

A few more questions- do you do it to maintain now, or are you still shredding/ripping? And can you do all of those push-ups for the whole 60 seconds??? (or whatever the time is set for)

I just can't ever imagine being able to do a single diamond push-up in correct form on my toes. From what I hear (in the guys thread), it only gets worse harder :S

I do Classic.  Right now, I suppose I'm in a cutting phase (i.e. trying to drop my bodyfat).  I'm gong to keep cutting until this round is over and then, if I like where I'm at, I'll just maintain.

Gah, how I hate the pushups!! I cannot do pushups continuously for an entire minute, but if I pace myself I can do 30 or more in one sitting.  The diamond pushups get easier, hey, it all gets easier, but you gotta stick with it and realize it's going to take time.  You know what helps with getting better at pushups?  Yoga. (sorry :)

Sphinx pushups?  I absolutely loathe love those.

Hi Girls!  I started the P90X Lean for the first time on Sunday.  Today is my first Yoga day and I'm dreading it.  I've never done yoga and am the least flexible person.  The yoga warm-up before the Cardio day just about killed me.  I am also nervous about the pull-up days.  I've never done a pull-up in my life, so this should be interesting.  I'm in decent shape--work out 5 days per week, but not for 75-90 minutes.  My norm is about 55 minutes of The Firm, running, push-ups and sit-ups.  The Ab video rocked me yesterday!  I could only do about 10 reps of each of the 11 exercises and I thought my abs were decently strong.  I look forward to seeing some results soon.  Are you girls starting to see changes in your body?  Are you following the nutrition plan?  I'm trying to stick to 1700 calories per day, but I haven't really focused on the specific daily portions they recommend.  I would like to lose some weight, but my real goal is to lose inches and become stronger and more toned.
