Any women starting p90x?
Hi, I'm new here. I'm going to start the P90X program on Jan. 5th. I was wondering if there were any women out there that are either thinking about starting the program or already doing it. I need to lose around 30lbs and hopefully this will work for me. I know I need to change my eating habits so I'm going to try and follow the eating plan too. Just curious if anyone has had great results with this plan.
Hi! I wish I would have found you all sooner!
I am 45, 5'3 and currently 135. I started getting back into our exercise and better eating in February. I was weighing in at 151 back then. My husband and I started out using the Jillian 30 day shred, and quickly saw results. We were also back to running outside with our 2 dogs at the same time. We then added in 2 more Jillian workouts for the circuit/weights aspect of the workout.
And then....a friend told us about p90x. We are now in month 3 of the basic program, although we do run several days a week with the dogs.
I really like the weight lifting/strength aspect of p90x. At my age it is so important to build muscle..and I am with this program! I dont like the kenpo or cardio dvds at all..we usually use our Jillian dvds on that day, and yoga is very time consuming. Usually about the time he starts the yoga belly seven I am walking downstairs to get on with my day.
Today is cardio day...rather than doing his kenpo we are doing Jillians "burn fat boost metabolism" and we took the dogs for a nice beach run this morning.
Anyway, I am bookmarking this page. See you soon.
Hi Laurlita.. welcome.. I am 50's.. your height, and and WORKING HARD on getting to your weight... which would be IDEAL for me...
I did the p90x doubles program..(with everything)... from June-Aug... took off 13 pounds and more than that in inches...
SInce then I have been doing p90x with turbo jam ... and have been on a plateau.. wondering what you think of Jillian's 30 day compared to the 90x program... I am hearing that you use her exclusively for the cardio... same as what i have been doing with the turbo.. except I LOVE kenpo and cardio.. and am just too big for running... causes me awful shin splints... and that hasn't happened with my current workouts...
AGAIN WELCOME! Great support and great all round site!
My daily check in: took two beautiful hikes today with hubby... gorgwous views of the glorious Pacific looking down from bluffs 400 feet up and over and out... just like being in heaven! (sure beats kenpo in my living room)... I have decided to get out on the trails more ... my new addition... hiking is perfect year round here....
Welcome, Laurlita!
I've also been wondering how Jillian's workouts compare to P90x.
I had Chest & Back today. I should actually be on week 12, but I'm doing week 11 over again...I took a few days off 'cause TOM was kicking my butt. If it's not too chilly this evening I think I'll walk the doggies.
Thanks for the welcome....
In regard to the Jillian workouts...we have 3 of her dvd's...the 30 day shred, her no more trouble zones and the boost metabolism burn fat.
The 30 day shred is great for someone getting started but not really good for long term. It has 3 levels and each workout is 20 minutes. They are good workouts for the time, so if you are in a hurry that day or you just need to "top" off a workout.
The no more trouble zones is 40 minutes of more circuit..sort of an extension of the 30 day shred. We still use it an we like it. It is a good workout.
The burn fat boost metabolism is more like the plyo dvd. There are no weights and you are doing a combo of plyo and kenpo-like moves. Also a good workout.
I think we are going to take the dogs running at Headwaters..rumor has it it is supposed to rain later today so we want to get them out for their exercise. Later today we will do shoulder/triceps/biceps and the evil "ab ripper" (which we call "lab licker" because our dogs usually use this an an opportunity to get us.
I've really been enjoying the upper body workout. I want pretty arms!!!!! I sincerely hate the yoga because of its length and lack of differentiation. Today is my day 15, which is supposed to be a rest day, but I was out of town yesterday and missed Kenpo X, so I have to make it up today. I am consistently sore after doing lower body and pull ups so I know it's working but it is discouraging that I don't SEE it. I really want to see it, like yesterday. But, alas, this is only day 15 of 90.
I'm hanging in there, though. Does anyone have any good tips of how to get through Tony's yoga without hating it? One thing I should mention is that I have several lower back conditions that prohibit me from doing moves like cobra and upward dog.
Hi Tiffany! Don't get discouraged yet, it's only been two weeks, sweetpea :)
Ugh. I really dislike the yoga. Sometimes I'll do half in the morning and the other half at night to break it up. And sometimes I'll mute the tv and blare some metal while I'm yoga-ing.
(and sometimes I will sub cardio x for yoga...what? it has yoga in it!)
Sorry about your back! Just sub moves that you can do, in place of the ones you can't.
Yeah, oftentimes I do really long planks when the people in the video are doing the vinyasas. How long have you been doing P90X, sharpshootinstar? I like your idea of breaking up the yoga -- do you usually have to re-warm up to do it again in the afternoon?
I've gone thru it seven or eight times now. I really love it. I will usually run in place for a couple minutes, or do a few vinyasas to get the blood moving before doing the other half. I have a tendency to pull my hamstring if I don't warm up properly. ![]()
7 or 8 times?? Wow! So have you seen real, tangible results? Have you done classic, doubles, and lean? I'm doing lean and I wonder if I should have started with classic....
Oh yes, if you put the work in, you will get results. I still don't have a six pack, like some people get from this program, but really the only place I have any pudge left is my belly, so that's ok.
I'm a Classic girl all the way. I feel that weightlifting is too important to skimp on. And I'd love to try Doubles sometime (talk to Bonnie, aka Dramaqun, she's done it) but I already get up at 5am to work out. Then I put in my day at work, and by the time I get home, I'm pretty much all done :)
I don't think there's anything wrong with the Lean version, though. It just has a bit more cardio, which is still important. You could always go through a round of Classic afterwards.
Have you always been a morning person? I wish so badly that I could motivate myself to wake up that early even to merely exist, much less work out. I have to be at work at 9:00 every day, so I typically shower the night before, roll out of bed at about 8:10 and leave by 8:35. Needless to say I'm not a morning person.
But then, I go to work, get home, have to work out, cook dinner, do laundry and dishes, and I also freelance edit. I go go go all day, every day. If you aren't a morning person how do you motivate yourself? Are there other non-morning people on here who have found a way to make themselves get up in the morning without feeling like they're running on empty?
I wouldn't necessarily call myself a morning person..I can sleep till noon if left to my own devices! But when I decided I needed to take better care of myself, I sat down and said "Ok, where can I fit an hour to exercise?". I work, come home, dinner, housework, then I want to spend time with my husband and dogs, so the evening just wouldn't work. So it pretty much has to be the morning. I still get 7-8 hours sleep if I go to bed at 9 or 10, so I'm not sacrificing anything. My motivation to get up and get my sweat on is that all my shirts are "Small", and I'm too cheap to buy a new wardrobe again :)
Today we are heading out for a morning run with the dogs. It rained last night so it is crisp and clean outside right now. Really looking forward to it. Then this afternoon it is legs and back. (my favorite)
I went for a run yesterday morning too...it was a little chilly! Hope yours was nice. :)
Morning.
It was a nice run! We went again on Monday, and in a few miutes we will take the dogs back for another!
We have decided that the boys are 2 very lucky and spoiled pups!
We have gotten off track this last week on p90x..we did plyo on Wednesday and then nothing. So today we will do shoulders and biceps and abs in the evening.
Not sure what happened, but we both got lazy at the same time.
Have a good day all,
Laurie
I love the shoulders and biceps routine. There's just something about pumping out some curls that makes me happy.
Have any of you done the nutrition plan with P90X? I didn't do it in Phase 1, but I start Phase 2 next week so I'm considering it.
I've done it, but haven't followed it for quite a while. There was another lady on here who was getting good results, but she hasn't been around for the last month or so.
Hello, I am very new to this site. And looking to meet some other people who use this workout. You seem to be experienced in the P90x workout. I just started it two weeks ago. I just took a cast off a foot so I went really easy the last two weeks so as to not injure myself. So no jumping but I did the squats etc.
My question is, how long have you been doing it now? What are your results? I have mixed up my mornings and evenings but now that I am going full stride I need to choose one. It is too hard to work out in the pm and then go to sleep and do it again. I found my body does not have enough recoup time. Also do you do the diet. I am a very healthy eater already so the only additon for me would be the shakes. Not sure if they are necessary or not?
Hi and welcome!
A lot of us have gone throught the program more than once. I've been doing it off and on for about a year and a half. I've put on quite a bit of muscle and am pretty much in the best shape of my life.
I don't do the p90x nutrition program any more, but I eat pretty clean. I personally think the protein shakes are a lifesaver. I find it difficult to sometimes meet my protein requirements, and the shakes fill in the gaps for me. But as long as you are meeting your personal requirements, I don't see why they would be necessary.
Glad you got the cast off! That must have been a pain in the rear.
