Any women starting p90x?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi,  I'm new here.  I'm going to start the P90X program on Jan. 5th.  I was wondering if there were any women out there that are either thinking about starting the program or already doing it.  I need to lose around 30lbs and hopefully this will work for me.  I know I need to change my eating habits so I'm going to try and follow the eating plan too.  Just curious if anyone has had great results with this plan.

Hello everyone!!

So P90X. I love it but I hate it LOL... I actually am starting P90x on Sunday. I was doing it earlier this year but then life got in the way... I made it to week 7 I think and was down 8 lbs and around 2 inches everywhere! Anyway since then I have gained back the 8 lbs (plus 2) and have had no success getting it off again so thought I would get back on the P90X wagon. I will be following the nutrition plan to start but low carb is super hard for me so I hope to gradually add carbs back in to a plan I will be able to stick with after the first 2-3 weeks. I'm going to do the classic with the exception of Day 1, I am going to do Core Synergistics (same as in the Lean) because I like that work out. But the rest of the week will be classic. Anyway, can't wait to chat more with you as time goes by.

Hi Stacy!  Core Syn is one of my favorites too!

I have Legs & Back tonight, then Kenpo tomorrow.  And then round eight will be complete!

*fistpump*

I did legs and back last night followed by Ab Ripper... which is exactly what it says!  OMG!

Tonight I have my first session of Kempo.  Any advice?  :)

Oh Kenpo is my favorite. So fun and time flies while you are doing it. Make sure you have lots of water. Good luck

And don't overextend your legs when you kick! Pulled hamstrings suck.

I loved Kempo!  Thank you for the tips!  The good news is I love these workouts... the bad news is I went for a trail run and sprained my ankle... yet again!  So I am out for bit!  :(

Awwww, that's too bad, V.  Do you have a brace or something you can wear while it's healing?

And round 8 is done now.  I got my morning cardio in, and I'll prolly do some chest and back tonight.  It's supposed to be nice this week, I really want to get outside with the dogs too.

So are you starting round 9 then!?

Today is chest and back, after a run with the boys. It may rain later...hopefully.

I am calling my podiatrist today to see if my orthotics came in. I hope they do, I can't wait to see if they make a difference.

Have a good day all

Hello all!

I am ridiculously excited that I found this forum today! I was formerly a D1 athlete that, upon college graduation, found that going from working out 3+ hours a day to not, can cause your body to turn to mush. I have been periodically running, but find myself easily getting out of routine for inexcusable reasons here and there. My BIL is doing P90x and looks fantastic! He is going to be giving me some of the DVDs when I see him next (hopefully soon!). I can't wait to begin. I'm getting married in less than 6 months and am hoping to take off about 10lbs! After reading all of your messages, I am very inspired and cannot wait to begin!

My BIL lives about an hour away, I'm even contemplating an out-of-the-way road trip to pick up the DVDs from him!!

I do suffer from severe shoulder problems (I have 3 anchors in one and now the other shoulder is beginning to act up) and am anxious about all of the upper body, but I am going to take it as it comes! I am happy that resistance bands are an option!!

Thank you all for your inspiration! I am PUMPED :o)

Hi Laurie!  I'm actually taking a little bit of a hiatus from P90x, but I'll still be working out, and using P90x inspired workouts.  I'm on a personal mission to get a 6-pack, so I'm trying out doing cardio 5-6 days in the morning, and doing my weights three evenings per week.  Basically I'm just adding a couple hours worth of exercise per week to my routine.

Hello and welcome, Emily!  Let us know what you think of the program!

I do have a big black air boot.  I went to the doc today and she said it is a light sprain (thank goodness) out for 3-5 weeks.  I do have a boot.  I plan to still do the workouts as much as I can.  Pullups, pushups, ab ripper to name a few things.  I am going do as much leg action as it will allow me in another week.

I have found in the first week however that I actually weigh more but my body is already getting tight. So I look better but weigh more.  Is that normal?

Yes, that is normal.  When you stress your muscles, they retain more water. As you get used to the workouts, that should level off.  Also, you are building muscle, and musle is more dense than fat.  Good job!!!

And thank goodness it's just a little sprain, I know I would go stir crazy.

I am already stir crazy!!  I am one month out from taking my air boot off from another foot sprain!  (same foot)  I have had so much couch time I think my couch wants a divorce! (I know I do)  I over did the running... The P90X really has me feeling good and perhaps a little too gungho!

Good to know about the muscle building! Thank you!  That may also explain my need I have had for more water.  I've felt dehydrated and have been drinking lots of water and tea.  I did not realise I would retain more.

LOL!  You better be careful with that foot when you get the boot off!  You're a maniac!  Laughing

Today is Plyo day.  That is, of course, after my run with the pup's...I think we will go to Headwaters again. Dh is called to jury dutyYell so it will just be me and the boys.

We have only 2 weeks left of p90x! Things that I have noticed about my body are as follows

1. I did not lose any weight (but this was not my primary goal so it is ok) I only have the last 10 lbs to go when I started to get to my "all time very hard to reach weight".

2. I can do pullups now, with no assists.  I can do 10-12 of reverse grip and depending on how tired I am I can do up to 10 of the various other varieties.  Before p90x I could not do 1 unassisted pushup of any sort.

3. I have built a lot of muscle. How do I know? Because I have not gained a pound despite the fact that we had 2 months of eating habits that would have caused weight gain normally. Not to mention that I can actually see the muscles.

4. I feel stronger, and I am a faster runner.  I time myself. I am also not as prone to injury as I used to be when I would ramp up the distance and the speed.

So, we will be continuing P90x, after a short break. At my age it is important to build muscle, and weight lift to help stave off osteoporosis. Plus, we feel great, and we enjoy the workout.

I still can't do any pullups yet and I juste have 3 weeks left... How did you do it?

Yay Laurlita! Good for you!  I hope  you'll continue to post on your progress!

Hi Claudie!  Are you using the chair assist method?  If so, try pushing the chair a little further back to take more of your own weight.  As you progress, keep pushing the chair back. Eventually the goal is to not use it at all.

And don't be discouraged! I don't think I could do a pullup untill sometime during round 2 or 3.  It was just something I wasn't good at. But I got better, it just took time.

Claudie, maybe this article would be of help to you.  Also, try googling something like "proper pull up form" to make sure you are performing it correctly.

hey everyone... I am BACK FROM PARIS!!.. where I EASILY pounded the pavements for 4-6 hours a day...minimum... but I TOTALLY ATE WHAT I WANTED.. and WHAT I WANTED was at teh pattiserie (bakery) and the boulangerie (bread shop) and fromagerie(cheese shop).. o mon dieu (OMG) these people eat WELL..

there is a major added stressor in the last 24 hours.. milaw hospitalized with major infection.. third time in three weeks.. so i KNOW myself... I NEED to start my p90 and other workouts NOW.. they will completely serve me by fending off the awful stress... only thing that does that for me is working out..

So, instead of going back to where I was (about 3-4 weeks into round 2 of p90x classic)... I am STARTING OVER TODAY... I will be doing the classic... but adding a few extra cardio days with TURBOJAM workouts... they are efficient for me and great as stress stoppers...

Emotionally, I am raw right now and when left to myself.. so very sad... so I am alone now, and am going to go and do workout one... heck I don't even know which that is... but I am doing it...

Thanks for being there... read your posts and everyone is doing awesome... remember, gals (and guys) JUST DO NOT GIVE UP BEFORE THE MIRACLE!  love to all... Bonnie/aka/Dramaqun

(((((((Bonnie))))))))  Allow me to officially welcome you back!  :)

I think de-stressing with exercise is awesome...it helps me, too.

Don't be sad, bonnie.  ((((((((bonnie))))))))))
