Any women starting p90x?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi,  I'm new here.  I'm going to start the P90X program on Jan. 5th.  I was wondering if there were any women out there that are either thinking about starting the program or already doing it.  I need to lose around 30lbs and hopefully this will work for me.  I know I need to change my eating habits so I'm going to try and follow the eating plan too.  Just curious if anyone has had great results with this plan.

Hey everyone!  I officially started the program today! I woke up this morning at 5am w/ my husband and did chest & back.  It was great!  I couldn't do all of it of course but I did most of the excercises to failure (that's 1/4 of a pullup unassisted Yell).  I'm doing all the pushups on my knees, and I still can't do the incline pushups, I just do the regular ones for that one.  I figure as long as I'm doing something and not just sitting it out it'll be beneficial.  After attempting one pullup, I went to the bands.  I think I will have to work up to those.  I didn't have time to do the abs routine so I will do it after work.  Next time I will wake up 15 minutes ealier so I can do the abs.  Do they warm you up before the abs excercises? Or do they just jump right into the excercises cause they're assuming you'll be doing them right after the other routine?

Wow! What a way to start the day koss!! Don't worry too much about what you can't do- I still can't do a lot of those pushups, and the ones I can do, I certainly can't do them for as long as they do!

The ab workout plunges right into it- there is no warm up.

Does anybody know where to find how many calories each DVD burns? (Of course, it'd be with the assumption that you're working as hard as they are, but I'm just looking for a ballpark) I looked on beachbody.com but didn't see the info anywhere.

I think a very loose average would be 350-400 cals burned per hour of vigorous weight lifting.

That being said, you're better off not worrying about the calories you're burning right now.  Just follow along as best you can, and remember that if you feel the burn, it's working.

I have no doubt in my mind it's working, I was just wondering for the sake of eating back what you burn- I've been eating 1800-2000 every day and am not losing weight. I wonder if eating 1600 would be enough?

You started a couple of weeks ago?  Might take a little longer.  Also, I notice you said 'losing weight'.  Keep in mind, the number on the scale may not move, or may even go up, but you should begin to notice changes...a trimmer waist, more defined arms and shoulders.  How are your clothes fitting these days?  Personally, I'd give it at least a full month before dropping your cals.

Oh, I wish my clothes were fitting looser! A lot of my problem has to do with my diet, IMO. I wouldn't care what the scales say if my clothes would fit a bit better! :)

Thanks for the advice!

today was my second workout (cardio x) it was hard but not as bad as i was expecting considering i was so sore this morning (from core synergistics yesturday) i could barely move.  I haven't worked out in a long time and boy it really shows my muscles are really sore, I can't wait for this to get a little easier, i'm dreading tomorrows shoulders and arms...I can't do a pull up to save my life.

I just log my activity on Calorie Count as calisthenics (pushup, pullups, etc.)  with vigorous effort.  It's around 400 calories burned in 60 min.  P90X literature says it burns around 600 calories daily with their workouts. Now, I'm assuming that's if you're doing all the moves in the dvd's Undecided.  So, for myself, I just figure about 60 min of vigorously attempting the moves, thus the 400 calories burned working out at about 67% capacity...for now.

Last night I did the chest, shoulders, & triceps workout. I did dumbbell chest presses every time they did push-ups. I also modified the shoulder exercises. It seems to have worked out well. My shoulder is doing well. The only thing I plan on changing next time is using a heaver weight on the chest presses and some of the shoulder exercises.

Today I did plyo for the first time. I really liked it, but another problem cropped up. I had some pretty bad knee pain. The Fitness Guide that came with the programs says to do Cardio X if you have knee problems, so I will probably do that. The plyo was fun, so maybe I will continue to do some of it.

Tomorrow is Chest & Back, Ab Ripper X day. That should not pose any problems except that I can't do pull-ups so will work with bands until I build up my strength. I really love working my biceps.

As far as calories go, I put it all in as calisthenics (pull-ups, push-ups), or depending on the workouts (except for yoga and stretching), I may separate it into vigorous weights and calisthenics.  Either way, I've seen on a couple of other blogs that the workouts are between 400-600 cals.  I just did core synergistics.  It kicked my butt.  Now on week 4

???!!!

Glad I wasn't eating when I read this! I might've choked. Or thrown up. Or thrown up and choked on it! :D

Glad to hear that the modifications are working for you, it's a neat program that way- there's more than one way to nearly kill your body skin a cat!

thanks for the info.

yesterday was KILLER! I did cardio at 8am, and then at 10pm did shoulders and arms, and ab ripper. By the time I was done, hubby was already in bed and I was seriously beat...hubby was interested in doing some "cardio" though ::heehee::

Everything aches today. I know I must be feeling bad, my first thought of the day was "I can't wait to do yoga"...I'll change my mind by the second downward dog.

I made it through my first Yoga session last night.  I must be doing the moves incorrectly b/c I was not sweating like the people on the DVD.  I'm not flexible enough for a lot of the moves and used blocks.  Over all, it wasn't as bad as I expected, just way too long.  Today is my first leg and back day.  I'm nervous about the pull-ups.  DH put up the pull-up bar last night and I couldn't do even a 1/4 of one.  Maybe I should use bands.  Did you get the bands off the P90X site?  Which ones should I use?

Thanks!

Tanya

Muahaha, just you wait, Tanya!  When I first began working out like this, I didn't sweat too much either.  Now, it practically pours off me!

Bands.  Start with the heaviest band you can use while maintaining proper form.  Tony's general rule of thumb is if you can do 11 reps, you need to up the resistance.

I got my bands from Walmart, they were with all of the Pilates/Yoga stuff. They only had one choice, so it wasn't hard to decide which one to get. It's not nearly resistant enough though- I have to stand way far away from the door and I keep imagining the band slipping through the crack and snapping me right in the face.

I don't sweat like they do either. Hey sharp? Is there a correlation between increasing muscle mass/lowering BF and the amount you sweat? The leaner you are, the more you sweat, that sort of thing?

What I have read is that after a while, your body begins to recognize that you are exercising.  In response it begins to sweat earlier and more.  And I definitely sweat more now than when I was heavier.  So, yes, I would say that there is a connection there.

OH....MY....GOD.

Day 2 of 90...Plyo.

I got up this morning at 5am and did the Plyo w/ my DH for the first time.  That was brutal.  I feel like jello.  I couldn't do some of the moves where you jump and do 180's, that made me feel dizzy and I was already light headed from all the hopping around and stuff.  It definitely says a lot about how athletic I am.  This is the kind of stuff athletes do in training!

I'm so sore from chest & backs yesterday.  I'm just dreading the stairs I have to climb when I get home.  My legs are still quivering Cry.

But... it's a good kind of sore.  A productive kind of sore.

I think the 180's are optional, kind of like doing the 30 seconds on jumping squats double time! I've never done the 180's, by the point I get to them, I'm doing well to stay upright! :D

Today was my 3rd yoga session....I'm so proud of myself! For the first time I was able to do the crane and wheel- it was only for 30 of the 60 seconds, but still..yay! The first time I did the yoga I said I'd never like it, but today I was looking forward to it and did well. I can see that my flexibility has improved an everythang!

Koss, I think you'll enjoy tomorrow, shoulders and arms. I really enjoy it even though it wipes me out!

Thanks, qmwillcand. Laughing

I am looking forward to tomorrow. I really enjoy doing the weights, I always feel like I'm a furnace burning calories all day long afterwards Yell

Everytime I think about how tough this all is, I just remind myself that there are a ton of other people going through the same thing (you guys!) and I will have to come back here and answer to them!

Keep up the great work everybody!  I'm cheering for you guys!

Hi everyone! I have been reading all your posts and i really enjoy them. i started P90x on Monday so today is my first day of yoga! I am currently dong lean. I have been sore all weeek.
