I wonder if my face will look older?
I hope this topic does not seem too frivolous but I have noticed that when people lose weight (people in their late thirties onward that is) their faces can appear older when they are slim....I was just looking at some before and after pics for inspiration (on another site) and I was struck by how many women's faces actually looked much younger when they were overweight....I suppose the amount of weight might be significant but I wonder if I'll find 40 lbs from now that my lines are deeper or that I will look more haggard or something....I am willing to trade though--I would be more comfortable with a slimmer body and aged face....I guess....sorry to be a downer--I guess maybe I am not as comfortable with my 42 years as I thought I was....
I am 49. I lost 6 kilos (around 15 lb) quickly and it did not affect my face. I guess a lot of it was fluid weight because I had just returned from a transatlantic flight. I am now deliberately losing slowly because I do not want my face to look older. I was not happy with the area around my neck and upper chest and have started applying lots of lotions to it and it looks better already.
As for skin care, I live in a hot, dry and dusty climate (Amman, Jordan) so proper skin care is a must. I started using face creams when I was in my late twenties. I cleanse my face with milk and tonic twice a day, and apply eye contour cream, day cream with SPF and night cream. I use top of the line products. I also treat myself to a facial once every couple of months. I hardly ever wear makeup, and when I do, it is only eye and lips makeup. I hate the feeling of gunk on my face. I make sure I remove it properly before sleeping.
People usually tell me I look younger than my age
I do not think it is a frivolous topic. I feel I owe it to myself to take care of my health, my weight and my skin, middle aged or not!
Well, folks, I've got to tell you, after 83 pounds, I do look older. I have lost it in over the course of 11 months, so it hasn't been drastic. I just noticed in the last 5 pounds that my face was looking like I had too much skin and not enough face. I'm 47, so my eyesight is getting horrible. Maybe that's nature's way of keeping us from seeing the awful truth about getting older (lol).
I have been using emu oil on my face, and the rosacea that I used to have is a thing of the past, but I've got to find something to fill in these lines on my face. I'm not talking about wrinkles, I'm talking about crevices. I guess my face was slow to lose. I hit a plateau for about 2 weeks, but then I starting dropping like crazy. You'll never believe what I did. I cut back on my fiber and all of the stomach pains went away and the weight started dropping. Oh, happy day, but now I'm looking older.
Anybody have any ideas about line filler inners? I'm open to anything, but the knife or botox, can't do the needles on the face.
terridavis18 - you look great and congratulations on your weight loss. There are many line filler-inners. You are supposed to use them for a few months to see results. I bought one once but did not really try it properly so I do not know if they work or not.
Your best bet would be to go to the cosmetics counters at a good department store. Ask the assistants there about these products. Check more than one brand. Make sure that the person you talk to is the one normally assigned to the product. Sometimes the lady from the next counter tries to help, but they do not know much about the product line.
A friend of mine did something called 'EPL' (I think). It is the same machine used for permanent hair removal using heat, not laser. That one has a special hand piece for wrinkles. She looked great immediately after the treatment. However, she lost plenty of weight after that and her face became very wrinkled again. I saw her the other day and she looked a bit better. When I see her I will ask her if she repeated the procedure and get back to you. She is in the over-60 age group, though.
Did you have your eyes checked? If your eye problems are due to age then you can get glasses or contacts to fix that. I had cataract surgery at 44 which is why I am asking. Please have your eyes tested if you have not done that already. Almost every eyesight problem can be fixed once it is diagnosed.
Once again I must say you look great. Well done!

Thanks so much for the compliment. I like the idea of the cosmetics counter and trying different things. I tend to buy things over the internet or while watching a home shopping channel, but they never seem to be tailored for my situation.
Although my skin is not as bad as I originally stated (I'm just a tad dramatic), it is loosening up quite a bit, and I'd like to try to keep it in a holding pattern for awhile anyway.
Thanks so much for the advice about my eyes. I might have more going on than just the normal age-related stuff. Sometimes my eyes go blurry on me, like I got makeup in my eyes or something, but I didn't even touch them. It definitely is time for a checkup in that department.
I just love this forum.
Thats funny I always tell my husband that with the weight I am filling in the wrinkles. I watch the biggest loser and noticed that when the weight comes off the wrinkles come on. That is one thing that I will not like about losing weight but maybe I can buy some oil of olay and deal with it!
You shouldn't really fear what you don't know. Everybody's heredity, metabolism and age differ from one to the next. You may be needlessly worrying.
When I was in my late 20's, I was over 240. Well, I am 42 and weigh 120 pounds. I have never looked better and looked so young as I do now. The only problem I really have is a little sagging in places from the actual weight loss.
Continue on your weight loss regime and don't think about what your face will look like. The aging process is inevitable and every individual ages on their own time. Think about how you'll feel in three or four sizes smaller. Stay on the right path....
Hi mypuppymylife,
You are right... I have lost the first 10 lbs and no far don't notice much... I would prefer to be slim and wrinkled so I plan to keep going....
My deflated looking stomach is currently what is dismaying me a bit... Oh well, not the end of the world....
