So I won't gain weight if I eat this?
So it looks like 1 lb of baby carrots is only about 170 calories. Does that mean it's safe to eats several lbs of this stuff a day and not gain (assuming one stays within one's calorie limit)? Can I eat 2 pounds of this stuff as a snack throughout the day, in addition to my regular meals and still lose?
I had to give up my coffe (that stuff helped me out a ton in my weight loss) due to heart palpatations. Consequently I'm super hungry all the time now. I wonder if it's safe to eat a ton of baby carrots...
Peace out homies.
I would think as long as you stay in your calorie range, carrots are a good snack. i know they are high on the glycemic index though which means that they will process in your body faster. If you eat them with some protein that would slow down the process and help to keep your sugar levels even, but you might want to only eat one pound if you add protein so that you stay in your cal range. Also, i don't know how many carrots it would take to turn your skin orange, but i do know that if you eat too many, that it can happen. of course you might not mind being orange, i don't really know you ![]()
Yes, so long as your total calories for the day, including the carrots, are still below your burn. I have heard of people turning slightly orange from all of the carotene (you can apparently see the change in color best in your palms) - but that's in super-skinny girls who eat almost nothing but carrots. You could mix it up - sliced carrots, sliced cucumbers, sliced celery... they're all really low-cal, and might keep you from feeling over-carrot-ed.
You don't want to eat THAT MUCH of anything in one day... variety is the spice of life, and the key to a healthy diet. Not to mention that within a week you'd never want to see another carrot again! There's nothing wrong with eating carrots every day, but how about adding celery sticks, cucumber, apple etc?

Awww that sucks. Sorry to hear that. when you say palpitations, do you mean rapid heartbeat or more like a skipped heartbeat? Just curious!
~H~
You better grab you the FAMILY SIZE package of toilet paper cuz if you eat that many damn carrots, you're gonna have some serious fiber poop going on. Ha aha haaa!!!!!!!
Ok that was gross, sorry.

You'll turn orange, i'm not kidding. I love carrots, but my hands are a lovely shade of orange as a result.
looked this one up in one of my nutrition textbooks as well...it is true! excess beta-carotene will build up in the fat just beneath the skin....turning you a yellow/orange tint.
BUT if you do plan on intaking that many carrots be wary of your Vitamin A intake..beta carotene is a precursor to vitamin A which means it can be converted by the body into vitamin A...but the body does not do these conversions efficiently enough to cause the Vit A toxicity symptoms. Pretty much if you take supplement be aware how much Vitamin A is in it as many foods are already fortified with Vitamin A, like cereals, milk, and granola bars...
The DRI for females for vit a are 700mcg/day and the tolerable upper intake is 3,000 mcg/day...I'm sure you're not consuming that much but Vitamin A toxicity includes increased activity of bone dismantling cells which causes reduced bone density and pain, liver abnormalities, and birth defects..
I know lots of info probably more than you wanted...but just a little fyi
good luck!
Well ....I've kinda fallen off the wagon .... and feeling like **** as a result .... but when I was on it I was eating tons of carrots. My favourite way of doing them was roasted in a slow oven - just with a bit of that virually calorie free oil spray in a pressure can you know. I added them to my meals, plus snacked on them throughout the day. They tasted great, stopped me from feeling hungry and cost virtually nothing in terms of calories. I don't think they were bad for me.
Carrots are excellent for the liver to do its job of eliminating toxins. People's skin turns orange (usually after an excess of freshly squeezed undiluted carrot juice) but that is not the carrots so much as the detoxing in progress through the pores of the skin. Once the toxins are gone the skin will go back to its normal colour even if you keep eating / drinking carrots.
