What won't make you puke in first trimestre...
I have been struggling to get 1000 calories a day, i am just too nauseous! Whats worse, safe foods are dropping off of my list daily, I can not eat plain bread, apple sauce, lettuce, or warm water... HELP!!!!

Oh you poor dear. Try not to stress it to much. I found that daily to weekly the foods that would make me sick changed. It felt like the baby was telling me what my body wanted or needed on any given day.
There was one week where I ate nothing but oranges and the next week all I ate was cream of chicken soup, then all of a sudden I could not stand oranges or cream of chicken soup and wanted something else. I am actually allergic to oranges but I did not care that I got a slight rash and was itchy, I WANTED those oranges !
Just try to listen to your body, try to rest a lot and go with the eating flow.
I felt very nauseous from 2 weeks pregnant, and I hate to say it but im currently 41 weeks pregnant and it still hasn't changed!!
There are some days/weeks that are better than others but on the days I feel too sick to eat anything I just try to drink sugary drinks (natural sugars - oj, apple juice etc).
Just like sereniticat, I found that I'm quite 'faddy' and go through phases of really wanting oranges, or a ham salad, or a big hunk of some kind of fresh fruit, and not being able to face anything else.
Eat when you can, and don't try and force something down you dont fancy, itll just make you feel worse.
The only thing that helped me in the 1st trimester was mint tea. If I drank a cup about 15-20 minutes before attempting to eat and then another cup about 10 minutes after eating I was ok. Ginger didn't really do anything for me.
If you try it make sure you get mint/peppermint tea, not green tea with mint, green tea is a big no no in pregnancy!
Why would green tea be a pregnancy no-no? It's naturally low in caffeine and tannin and has lots of anti-oxidants in it. I've never heard anyone say not to have it when you're pregnant?
To Kajikat, I can't remember why exactly but my doc told me that something in green tea can afffect they way our bodies absorb Folate which is super important during pregnancy. I also read it in my 'What to Expect...' book.
I loooooooove green tea so I was very saddened by this.
I ate a lot of starches (oatmeal/bagels/cereal) but you might want to talk to your doctor about getting on zofran if your insurance will cover it. That's what really helped me get through all the nausea.
I hope you feel better soon!
When I was pregnant, I couldn't even keep down plain old water, and I ended up in the hospital for dehydration. Not fun, I assure you. My Dr. put me on Reglan, and that was a lifesaver.
Good luck, and I hope you feel better.
maybe flat ginger ale? That's always worked for me. And Saltines. Try to eat something light; I know starving made me feel even worse. :( I hope you feel better!!! This too shall pass and you'll be glowing instead of green!
And, I drank green tea during my pregnancy and she's fine!! 1 cup a day should be OK. Everything in moderation (except liquor of course!!!!)
Oh yes ! Ginger ANYTHING helps ! In-fact there are even ginger candies you can suck on and ginger pills that are a God send !
About the tea, it used to be caffeine was okay, then it was only a cup or two of caffeine was okay, now in December when I miscarried they told me NO caffeine what so ever. Seems there is a current study in the U.S that is linking even tiny bits of caffeine to miscarriage. Then the next doctor I saw for the same miscarriage said I could have one or two caffeinated drinks but no more..so the debate goes on. I LOVE my coffee, but after two pregnancy losses, I plan to cut off ALL caffeine the moment we start trying to conceive again..so I expect to be bitchy for a bit, and without the caffeine who knows where I'll find the energy to get it on to make the baby !
Teme, I could not drink water either. I don't know why, but water made me very very ill and vomit..but yet drinks or soups made with water didn't. In fact I vomited so much water, that for a few months after the pregnancy I could not even look at it.
Ok, here is the update, seriniticat said it all, it does change day to day. Ginger ale didnt help, just came back from the hospital from dehydration, watermelon was good this morning, now im sick again, avocado sandiwches, nono. Ugh. I feel hungry, but I am afraid to eat, I have to say oranges do kind of sounds nice right about now. uh oh, actually i think i need to go... sick...

It's the anti-oxidants that make it a no no. Here is a good link http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/1-24-2006-87 222.asp
My doctor told me about this at my first prenatal appointment back when I was 7 weeks pregnant.
I, too, couldn't drink water. I got a bunch of Crystal Light and I was able to drink that mixed with water. I read that eating something before you even get out of bed in the morning is supposed to help. I started keeping crackers in my nightstand drawer and eating a few literally before I was vertical. It really seemed to help for the rest of the day. I'd still have aversions but I could at least keep food down.
I drank a lot of green tea while pregnant and my kids are perfectly healthy.

I'm just giving information and resources. New studies come out all the time with new information... I personally don't think it's worth the risk.
This is a little off topic, but I found that I could actually pinpoint days when the hormones were doubling and days that they wernt.
On doubling days, I'd feel sick, be sick and was sick. The next day to day and a half I'd be less sick. Then the next day sick as again. All because of hormones being made, that's amazing when you think about it !

I understand and my comment was not directed toward you. I was sharing my personal experience. After having two children, I was never told by a doctor NOT to drink green tea.
I was sick throughout my pregnancy & went through "phases" of foods that wouldn't make me sick. For a while early on all I could eat were Annie's chocolate bunnies. Then I moved to mint newman o's. Not that I'm recommending that (but it was delicious! and it worked!). I kept them by my bed so when I woke up all nauseas I could eat a cookie & fall back asleep. Healthy, I know.
I could eat & keep down just about any meat as long as it was grilled. My husband spent all winter on our deck grilling me steak.
I took Unisom on days I didn't have to work. It worked really well. Obviously talk to your doctor, but it's OTC.
I think the best rule you can learn as a parent is "Whatever it takes."
You're probably not going to find something that makes you feel better. Just do whatever it takes, even if it's McDonalds french fries.
Wow thats really interesting about green tea!
Heres the next update, I lost 5kg from all the nausea, so the doc gave me some pills, now I am back to avocado sandwiches and watermelon wedges, and FINALLY water is back in the mix. Perhaps I will try to find something to mix with my water to get it down easier....
I just notice that when I drink water too fast, or eat the sandwich too fast, i still feel a twinge like my body elling at me! I was soooo hungry though. I hadnt eatien or drank anything before 3pm, then a sandwich so i pretty much sarfed it. If i play my cards right I should get to 1000 by tonight, and tomorrow, back up to normal amounts!
oh the meds he prescribed are called maxalon...
thanks again everyone!!!
