I am wondering, with all the wealth of knowledge out there, why so many of you don't read up on all the informtion out there, on weight loss, nutritition, and disease.  Most of the questiones asked here could be researched and answered on sites like; web MD, U.S. dept of health, center for disease control, Mayoclinic, as well as lots of ones I have found simply by using searches.  The support side I get, and it's great!

it seems to me many of you are looking for justification for doing this the wrong way, and then you can't figure out why you are so sick or weak or why it doesn't work for you.  Read people!!  There is a right way and a wrong way, you didn't gain this weight in one week why do you think you should be able to lose it in one????

You are suffering from lack of knowledge, you would be suprised at what you could learn just by going to the U.S. dept of health site and reading all the stuff just on diet.

For whatever reason, people feel comfortable coming here and asking.  Maybe they want another person's personal experience, rather than a 'study'.  Maybe they think that someone on here will know just where to point them.

But whatever the case, here's a post that links those online resources.

Great post!  I think you win the posting competiton for the week! (I think you won last week as well with your post about getting obsessed over those 5 calories in a stick of gum)

There is alot of information out there.  Most answers I post up are things that I googled.  Its not hard to look for information.

It can get confusing at times as the more you read, the more you may find differing opinions on things.  This is what this forum should be about, to discuss those differences.

I think people are lazy.  Just as people want the quick fix to lose weight, they also want to have the quick answer.  Everything needs to be right now.  Their time is valuable.

This happens everywhere.  When paying at the cash, when someone takes 10 seconds more than normal, everyone starts sighing in the lineup,  because they are all rushed, and their lives are so important.

Great post.  Thanks for making it.  I 100% share your thoughts
Nomore,

That's a fabulous link.  Tagging that.
big twinky, I really like to look for different opinions and sites that counter the common knowledge, I think I learn more from them sometimes.

It's just that so many are just killing themslves over what they see on TV but won't pick up a book or do any searching to find the real truths.
I've wondered this myself.

Perhaps some people just prefer the simple, easy way of asking it on these forums?

Personally, I've just always been so naturally curious about nutrition and such for years now, and so I spend hours scouring websites for information and read health magazines all the time, etc.  There really is quite a myriad of good information out there!
I have to agree - I think people are just plain lazy.  I tend to hang out more in the fitness forum and just get frustrated with the same discussions hashed over and over again.  There is this wonderful "search" function on this site if people would search a topic and maybe find the answer to their question or even add to that old discussion.  I've bumped ancient threads that related to the curent topic.  It really gets irratating when the same discussion is on 2 threads on the same page - or maybe posted earlier that morning and then another person starts a new thread with almost the exact wording as the others.  UGHHH

For example this "numb feet on elliptical" question has been beaten to death.  There was pages of replies back in Aug or Sept llinks to great information that probably won't be reposted on this latest thread because alot of us users to this site are tired of reposting the same information.

Ok stepping of the soapbox to give others the floor.....
Because we love to ask people like you ;-) Plus its easy way to socialize and meet new people who are all striving towards the same goal...

Plus isnt this what a fourm is for?
Maybe we're all just codependents... some of us constantly ask questions, others can't help but reply and demonstrate how much we know. :-)

I think a lot of people tend to want personalized, interactive information, instead of "one-way" broad-spectrum info presented on the web. Welcome to web 2.0!

You read an article and it gives you general information, but then you want to know, "how does that apply to ME in particular, ME at  5'0" with 10 lbs to lose??"... and so you come here and ask, and you'll get people who interact and show you how it applies specifically to you, and also how it applied to them, and what their experience has been.
I agree, there is a TON of great info on the web. And I use that information as well

Keep in mind, this is a forum.

But..... grouping EVERYONE together by stating" You are suffering from a lack of knowledge" is pretty judgemental IMO....

Kris
I don't think he meant that everyone here is suffering from a lack of knowledge.  From my somewhat limited english skills, it seems that the subject of his statement was in the paragraph above:

"it seems to me many of you are looking for justification for doing this the wrong way, and then you can't figure out why you are so sick or weak or why it doesn't work for you."

These are the ones who are suffering from a lack of knowledge.

Just my take on what was written.
I don't usually post things like this, but I am just curious. Bigtwinky, in an earlier post about purging you sarcastically congratulated someone for googling an answer. I believe she posted something from Wiki. It sounded at the time like you were being hard on her for looking up the answer (just what I read from it anyway, and please correct me if I am wrong).

My question is, wasn't she/he doing exactly what you are suggesting by googling?

Anyway, I agree that there are a lot of great answers out there. I typically try to put a link in posts when I give specific advice. The same goes for when I get advice. I always try to research suggestions before taking them as true, just to make sure I stay safe.
ssbuckeye, I answered you in a private message.
Thanks Bigtwinky. Curiosity cleared up and I strike the previous post :)
To each their own. Education comes from many sources and every source has a somebody behind it. When you read books, sites, articles, share in open forums, watch tv programs etc. its all just gathering information. Information given by somebody. Maybe its just an opinion, maybe its an experience or maybe it hard found fact. From there you must compare and analyze. Much of the information we get is conflicting no matter what the source. The more information we have the more educated we become and the better equipped we are to decide for ourselves what is right or wrong and what is best for us as an individual. Asking for information, opinions or even someones personal experiences, in no way makes one lazy or lacking in knowledge.
Well said tinav :)
Gee, I thought I was the only one who thought this way!   There's tons of great websites out there with information on health, nutrition, diet and exercise with great articles and advice.

Theres a wealth of information on this site too, it's a shame that people don't read it.   It would avoid so much confusion and backwards dieting misconceptions.

It's not the people that post here asking for opinions or personal experience that bother me.  It's the many more that ask questions that would have been answered already if they had created a proper profile and entered their information.
i think alot of people prefer having their hand held. or maybe its partially an age thing.

*researches hand-holding and age things*
I think some people just don't know how to use Google efficiently (or web based searches in general). Not everyone is computer literate and not everyone is a Master Google Searcher. I'd like to think I am a Master of Google. And there have been a number of times that I have answered folks here in the public forums just by doing what I consider a simple Google search. Sometimes I get burnt out on it and then I just ignore the public forums.  =) If I don't read it, then it doesn't bother me! Voila!! That simple!!

I'd like to think that we all could have a little compassion, a little patience and the ability to share a kind word if we choose to provide answers to questions here in the public forums. I think the important thing to point out, is that it is a choice. It's your choice the level of participation you want to be involved at. Igor once said we make this community what we are willing to put into it. So find something positive to focus on instead if the repeated questions starts to annoy you. =)
"it seems to me many of you are looking for justification for doing this the wrong way, and then you can't figure out why you are so sick or weak or why it doesn't work for you."

you pretty much hit the nail on the head and broke it. :) there are so many posts like that... even though some don't even change their minds when they see the facts either way.

i read up on EVERYTHING before asking or answering a question. i think it would be unfair on the people reading my posts if i didn't have some sort of knowledge beforehand.

ITA with you.
Great Post!  I am always wondering the same thing and there is so much information out there and just a Google away.

I hate to say this but I think that some folks are looking for sympathy as I often read these posts and they are given lots of advice but still continue to ask the same question.

On that note I often see the same question day in and day out and it is frustrating that it appears that some folks are not even searching CC to try and find information on a question asked a million times.

Disclaimer - I am guilty of the same question of "Why am I not losing weight".  I got enlightened and learned so maybe some will learn from your post - good job!
