I Work in a Bakery Any healthy snacks besides veggies and fruit???

Quote  |  Reply

I work in a bakery and have temptation all around me.... mmmmmmmmm.... but I noticed if I eat one or two sweets early on in the day then im ok with not gaining weight.... Also the bakery I work for uses all organic items and everything is made from scratch... Ive still managed to lose 10 pounds in one week! Im loving it...

Can anyone suggest some real simple healthy snacks besides veggies and fruits that I can take with me to work?

Nuts - high calories but they are amazing.

string cheese - I personally prefer blue cheese

whole wheat crackers

popcorn - air popped would be great.

pretzel (choose low sodium one)

yogurt

hope this helps!

Thanks those are great suggestions!

trail mix, yogurt, energy bars, dry cereal, granola, pb and j sandwich, small container of hummus with some pita chips, bagel with light cream cheese, leftovers...anything really. do you have access to a refrigerator?

You said PB&J.  I have been trying some regular  JIF creamy peanut butter, which gives me some protien, however I am worried about the fat content.  Why do people suggest peanut butter when the fat content is so high?

You work in a bakery and still lost 10 pounds?  I worship you!!!!

I gain 10 pounds just by walking past a bakery and smelling the goodies!!!

fat is good for you and should make up roughly 30% of your calories for the day. we need it and it keeps us full longer. don't get caught up on the amount of fat, because the fat in peanut butter is healthy and beneficial. of course, keep it in moderation if you're watching your calories, but definitely don't hesitate to eat your peanut butter..lol

Chrissy is trying to gain weight and I noticed some of her suggestions were quite calorie-dense. I suppose that's what comes to her mind when she thinks of snacks.

I'm trying to lose and I do still eat peanut butter, but I've cut down to at most once a day. It's very healthy but a little goes a long way.

FLAMEL is right...I am trying to gain weight, but in general, low fat diets are not recommended for even individuals trying to lose weight. Just as he said, a little goes a long way, but make sure that you don't avoid foods that are high in fat. Avocados, olive oil, and nuts are all high in fat but are healthy fats that keep you satisfied. Eating all carbs and protein will not curb hunger for long, but if you paired say a yogurt with some nuts this would be much more filling. Also, it reduces the insulin response when you consume a meal high in carbohydrates. my point is that even for those aiming to lose, fat intake should account for a significant portion of your diet!!

Be careful with hummus. It is very very high in calories. There

must be better alternatives, as indicated by the first post. Even

peanut butter is better than hummus I think.

good for you for losing 10 lbs at a bakery. that is remarkable.

Peanut butter (180-200 calories for 2 T) is most certainly not lower in calories than hummus(70-100 calories for 2T) but both are exceptionally good for you. Lite laughing cow cheese on the other hand, is only 35 calories for a wedge.

How do you figure that?  My hummus is 30 cals/tbsp.  Given that 2 tbsp. is tons for dipping veggies into, it's really not that high cal and a snack of carrots/cucumber/peppers with hummus can easily come in under 100 cals.

Well I was out for dinner the other night. My son, 22, and his friend ordered

hummus for an appetizer. I noticed how easy it is to eat more than a tbsp

with pita bread. So, sure, 30 isn't a lot, but keep in mind it is per tbsp.

that's all I was getting at. if one is disciplined and careful, as you must be

in a bakery and still losing weight, I guess you can deal wit hit fine.

All the best.

I have my cheat days with sweets, but I also noticed if I eat them really early on that it doesnt effect my weight at the end of the day. So sometimes its a give or take...

I wanted to thank everyone that gave me tips on what I should bring and eat for snacks.

I hope all reach their goals... much luck.
