I work at a convience store/cafe. 8 hour shifts. usually 5 of these hours there is nothing to do. Tons of food around that i dont have to pay for, especially penny candy and chocolates (these always get me!) I bring snacks, like low sugar oatmeal and home made muffins and yogurt and things i know i can eat, but, I always end up letting myself have one, then as soon as i do it, i eat 10!! Its frustrating!
Does anyone else have a similar problem?

My co-workers are big on bringing junk into the office, almost every day there is cake or timbits or chocolate hanging around RIGHT in front of my face.
I keep telling myself, "THIS IS NOT FOOD! Food, supplies the body with nutrients and keeps it healthy, this is junk and is not meant to be eaten." Repeat it in your heat like a mantra, and if you get the urge to pick at it, pick at some celery instead.
Part of changing your lifstyle is changing HOW you see food. See it for what it is, learn what is good to eat and your body will reward you.

I used to work at a Burger King... But I finally started figuring out ways to bring my own lunch and eat it on break and not nibble on chicken tenders...
Now I'm working in a Bakery at a Golden Corral... It kills be because I can't just throw away half a delicious cake at night... So I nibble on all the sugar and fats and I know it's not good for my body but it's so friggin tasty...
I'm thinkin about quitting that job because it's really killing my body... They don't give me a lunch break there so I can't bring my own food from home... And I work 6-7 hour shifts so I'll starve if I don't munch on something...

1- Instead of eating that cake, why not find a homeless shelter, a YMCA or something similar near by where you can drop off the half a cake, left over cookies and what not? I'm sure they would enjoy that cake way more than you do.
2- Not sure about where you live, but there are laws that after x amount of time working, an employee needs a break. What they are doing could potentially be illegal.

you should get at least a 15 minute break...that is the law and you are entitled to it!
I work at Dunkin Donuts, and it is so difficult!!! We also have to throw away the donuts in the evening (garbage bags full!) and it kills me to see them in the trash. I don't know how this is for you, hybrids05, but we are not allowed to give away the donuts due to safety reasons. The stores owners would be liable if the donuts caused something to happen (a person choking) and could get sued.
I am addicted to sweets, and I feel such a sense of accomplishment when I have gone through an entire shift of not eating any. My advice: challenge yourself! Try not to eat anything in the store for a day, then three, then a week, then see how many days you can go without eating anything that isn't healthy. I know that is difficult (believe me, I KNOW!!!) but the feeling of pride I have for not doing it is so great...challenge yourself, you'll feel great!

A woman working for a Tim's a few years ago had the same issues with throwing away the donuts. She talked to her boss, they got waiver forms written up and were allowed to give the left over donuts to one specific shelter (not anyone who came by).
Sometimes, its worth the extra effort to make sure those less fortunate can get a little something extra.
