Hey guys.

I went to the gym for the first time today - I've never been fit enough to exercise at that level for more than 10 minutes before and I lasted a full hour today! :) After arriving at 8 I had a fantastic time, really enjoyed it, I was on a high for about 3-4 hours after. Now I'm home and I just fell asleep! I had about 7 hours sleep last night, I usually get 8. But this doesn't account for how tired I am now, im exhausted with a massive headache - and I've drunk loads of water!!

What should I be eating before I go to the gym - I have to have something.
This morning I had 2 plain ryvitas with half a can of mackerel in tomato sauce. Any recommendations for healthy but better energy breakfasts?

Thanks,

Bex

I don't work out first thing in the morning anymore, but I used to have a huge issue with falling asleep or dozing off at my desk during work.  I've been eating a lot better, including healthy breakfasts that consist of yogurt, a protein bar, and a piece of fruit, with a cup of green tea.  I switch it up on the weekends and make eggs or something else special, but this mix has worked really well with getting me going in the morning.

I have a problem with energy for working out.  I bike 10 miles every morning (to get to work) and if I eat first, I get a sick stomach during the ride.  So I do just a cup of juice and/or a banana, then the bike ride, then right after I eat one of the Kashi oatmeals.  These are awesome, full of protein, filling, and give me energy to get through the work day.  On days when I know I'm going to bike the 20 miles and go to a yoga class, I eat whole wheat pasta with some sort of fish or shrimp the night before - basically a bigger dinner than I would otherwise eat with complex carbs.  This basically works for me.. though I do have times when I just flat run out of steam mid-workout.  So maybe my advice isn't so valuable :P

Dont forget to eat a good snack after you workout as well, something that has both protein and carbs. My trainer and I were just talking about my lack of energy after the gym, i work myself really really hard, and she told me to make sure i am getting enough carbs. I was getting about 40% daily, she wants me to get 60%. THey are our main sorce of energy, but dont over do it or choose the wrong ones. A good combo is an apple with an ounce of nuts or natural peanut butter.  Or fruit and yogurt.
