Work Madness

Quote  |  Reply

My work life is in the toilet right now and consequently, I can no longer log my food on CC while at the job.  I could be fired for it.  There is a lot of stress going on there and I really feel like my soul is being sucked through the little gray walls of my cubicle on a daily basis.

I haven't been stress eating, but I also haven't been counting for a few days.  I'm not good at "summarizing" all my cals once I get home.  I get lazy about it.  I was in a routine of doing my CC stuff at work.  Has anyone taken a break from actual counting and had any success????  I try and keep a tally in my head all day, but I'm sure I'm off.  I am exercising at least 4 days a week, but must admit that I've felt really drained lately and it has taken A LOT just to get my butt up to do that.  I just don't know.  I feel like a stressball and just need to vent.  I guess all I'm trying to say is that I hope I don't gain weight and lose all this momentum and motivation that I had before things became impossible to deal with at work.

I'm sorry about your work- that sucks! Same thing happened to me- I got 'encouraged' by my boss to do less surfing on the 'net (I only frequented CC and cnn most of the time!) so I just bought a little notebook and started to write down what I ate at work along with amount of calories if the item wasn't tagged yet. Perhaps that would help? Congratulations on your commitment to work out, I've lacked in that lately. :) You can keep it up, don't give up! Good luck.

THE CORPORATE WORLD WILL TOTALLY SUCK THE MENTAL LIFE and SPIRIT RIGHT OUT OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do I know this??  Because I am sitting here in my office right now at 8:15am wishing it was 4:30pm.  Wishing, wishing...we 'wish' our lives away in the Corporate world.  They work to stress you out and make you certifiably stupider while we FIGHT just to attempt to feel good!  It sucks, right?

Have either of you considered quitting? There's no reason to be the slave to some greedy person's dream.  And don't let them manipulate you by saying that you have to work harder and faster because they're in over their heads financially.. it's not your problem.  Disclaimer: I'm biased because I quit my soul-sucking corporate cubicle job and I've never been happier.

Back on topic... I'm pretty sure it's OK to not count every now and then.  I actually stopped counting for a whole month during last year's attempt at losing weight, and lost 4 lbs over that month.  I think you get used to the portion sizes you measure out while counting and the habits get ingrained, so you don't always have to be so strict on yourself.

Thank you sooo much everyone!!  Amandief, the notebook thing is a great idea :) and so is the Excel spreadsheet (God, I loathe those) healthystriver. :)  I really cannot allow this stupid BS at work to interfere with all of the progress I've made thus far.  It's not worth it.  I'M more important than that!!

Healthystriver, I feel your pain.  It sucks to wake up every morning and DREAD going to work.  It also sucks to feel like what you do is "unimportant" in the grand scheme of things.  People who work doing something that they love are truly blessed and few and far between.

Uh yeah Andi8983, I think about quitting all the time, but unfortunately, I'm a slave to the bills I have to pay.  I cannot just up and quit without moving on to another job immediately.  I will be more choosy with my next gig as I definitely KNOW what I hate doing-- being a cubicle rat phone monkey.Cry

Thanks for the advice and encouragement and I really appreciate it.  It's nice to know that I'm not alone.

I hate counting when I'm busy. I've decided I'd rather my diet be more redundant. So I eat pretty much the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday for a week. I know the calories, so I just count them as one 'food' by adding them in as 'brunch."

I would change the meals each week, and after a few weeks, I still remembered caloric content of the meals I'd eaten prior, so I can alternate between them and know the calories.

I also read another great suggestion: assuming you eat, say, 1500 calories a day, start your morning with change adding up to at least 1.50. Every 10 calories is a $.01. 100 calories is a dime, etc. At work, you could theoretically have one pocket for 'calories eaten,' when you get home, just add it up.

Are there rules against keeping a journal at your work. Just write down everything you eat and the number of cals in a notepad...take it home and log it

I work in the public safety sector so there's absolutely no way I can use a work computer to log my calories (wouldn't even consider it!).

I often write it down in a small notebook, like several folks have mentioned, then log it when I get home from shift or else I plan the night before what I'm going to take to work with me & pack it all in my lunch box.  I also have my breakfast all ready to go.  I then log the food on the CC site that same night for the next day.  I know what I'm going to eat, I don't have to stop & put it together (other than I do a lot of protein shakes for breakfast but that only takes a couple minutes), I'm not tempted to grab something extra on the way out the door & also know how much "wiggle" room I have (just in case someone shows up with donuts - did I REALLY just say that??  Naw.  They are icky!  But I am a sucker for a cookie!)

At the end of the day, when I get home, I check what I've logged and if for some reason I didn't eat something that I took with me & but had already put on the CC log, I just delete it.

And don't worry about venting - we've ALL been there!  Hang in there!
