I am at work and need help with something. HELP

I am using wordperfectX3 to type this note and I need to make underlines so my boss can use this format to fill in the blanks. I don't know how to make lines so my boss can just type on top of it. I use shift and the dash to make lines and when I type on top of the lines it pushes back and the words are not underline. How do I make lines and then type words on top of the lines without making it move back.

do you have a toolbar with a U in it?

Underlining is a FORMATTING feature, not a typing one... if you type in a dash or a line, it's just a line, not formatting. You can only have one typing character in a space, as you've found out - you can't put two of them on top of each other. If you want to make an UNDERLINED space you can - you have to type in the blank spaces yourself and then highlight them and UNDERLINE them with the formatting. (I don't know the exact controls because I haven't used wordperfect in years, but I'm sure it's in there somewhere...) Once the space is underlined that line will stay there even when you go back and type in writing.

This is what a 'line' looks like: _______ You can type that in and write the writing in by hand, but you can't type on top of it. This is an UNDERLINED SPACE        . It looks just the same but you can move the cursor back to it and type in writing and it will come out like this: This is underlined typing.

Hope that helps!

Making forms is best done using tables. Create a table and then use the border function to outline the bottom border of the cell that needs to be typed in. All other borders should be made invisible.

Alternatively, use the underline thing, but put the cursor in overwrite mode (by pressing the Insert key on the keyboard).

Select the text you wish to underline and press CTRL + U.  Works on here too!
