How to work protein into my diet...

I am having a very hard time working protein into my diet.  I have a protein shake but it taste terrible?  Any suggestions?  I seem to have allot of carbs that make there way into my diet and I just can't find a protein to replace them cravings.  Someone please help!! Any suggestions would be great!  Thanks and happy dieting!

Have an egg beater (or egg white) omelette for breakfast, include chicken or salmon at meals, low fat cottage cheese for snacks. Google foods that have a lot of protein. They could give  you a better list
Fat-free or low-fat dairy is always good, especially fat-free yogurt and skim milk - both give you good nutritional benefits without the fat and cholesterol, and both have good protein.  Drink a serving of milk with your breakfast, and work one or two servings of yogurt in each day.

Nuts and beans are also excellent sources of protein.  Nuts are high in fat, but it is the good, heart-healthy fat.  Try to eat raw or dry-roasted, unsalted nuts.  Portion control is important, though, as nuts are high in calories, but nutritionally excellent.  Beans have no fat but awesome fiber and protein.  I eat a 1/2 cup or so of beans on my salads every day, and a serving of walnuts in my oatmeal at breakfast.

And finally, lean meats such as chicken and fish are good, too.  I usually cook a few boneless chicken breasts, slice them and put them in a sealed container, and they will keep in the fridge for 5 - 7 days.  Then I eat them on salads, in wraps, or heat them up for fajitas or stir-frys and it's a quick and healthy meal.

Special K makes a protein mix for water.  It's got a little big anyway.

I like the turkey bacon when I need an extra protein kick!  I too struggle with too many carbs and not enough protein.  I will be watching this post now  :)        I have a new salmon jerky to try this week.  I'm hoping it's good because it has 14g of protein in one serving!!  It's a little high in salt, but will be very worth it to me!!   

I can't do the whole bean thing very often.  A handful of times a month and I'm done.  Sad... but true.

I second the nuts, beans and yoghurt suggestions.  I make a chili with my beans but I cook the meat separately so I can eat the beans without meat when want.  I make the beans ahead of time and they last a good while. 

I make smoothies out of kefir (liquid yoghurt) and frozen fruit, they are wonderful! 

Also, my cereals have protein in them, Grape nuts and Nutty Flax. 

I really struggle with protein, but here are some of the things that have helped me....

I love hard-boiled eggs as a source of protein. I usually boil the entire dozen at once. Then, I can eat one in the morning or take one to work for lunch, and I don't have to worry about trying to cook/make something. They're really compact and easy to eat.

Sometimes I eat slices of turkey in order to get protein with a meal. I get honey roasted turkey breast (99% fat free if I can find it) and eat a couple of slices by themselves. The honey makes it kind of sweet and almost dessert-y.

One other thing that I do is buy ground turkey breast (again as ff as I can find). I cook the entire package and then just keep it in my fridge. Whenever I have a meal where I don't have quite enough protein, I throw 1/4 cup of ground turkey in there. It's a quick and easy protein boost.

I tend to get my protein from egg whites, nuts, beans, chicken, fish, sometimes steak, and the occasional protein shake/bar.

I'm not a huge fan of protein shakes either, but if you do some tinkering and looking around, you can make em work.  The stuff I drink is this strawberry (i think) flavor and I just mix it with water, stir, and gulp it down in a few seconds.  It dissolves great.

There are some halfway decent protein bars too, but most of them taste like crap and the rest you have to be wary of what they put in them (some are like normal candy bars).  I've probably tried about 10 different kinds, and there's only one that I've liked so far that had the right nutrition stats.

these are all great suggestions as i too would like to get more protien.  i do eat some nuts and just started to eat beans again..but like youve all said, they can be high in cals and fat.  can you suggest some low cal and low fat options for added protien?  im starting to eat less nuts (even though i shouldnt) because of how high in cals and fat they are... 

lol, I always have to work on LIMITING my protein intake haha. I could literally eat cottage cheese, egg whites, peanut butter, & salmon all.day.long.

Egg whites are especially good because you can dress them up a thousand different ways. Scrambled, boiled, omelet, sweet, savory, spicy, etc. The possiblities are endless.

Everyone's suggestions are great, however have you ever thought of trying a different Brand of protein shake? I also was turned off of protein shakes when I first tried one, I was repulsed thinking how can ppl eat these once not to mention 3 times a day, lol. But then I tried Muscle Milk I don't remember who suggested them to me but thank God they did. I love Muscle Milk Lightit has 25g of protein and only 195 calories, I like the strawberry and the cookies & cream flavors and I just bought the vanilla to give it a try(I have no clue why I didn't try it first lol).

currently seeing a nutritionist, got to be careful with doing a lot of fat free the replace the fat with sugars which in the body gets stored as you guessed it fat! to much carbs turn to sugar also needs to be good carbs. try soy, tofu, lean meats, peanut butter. another tip she gave me is always eat a carb with a protien of equal percent ratio. it's all a science

You can eat nuts, turkey pepperoni, chicken, eggs, tofu, soy products, etc. I hope that helps!
