Yet again, work has tempted me. Okay, not work, but the food at work. My boss just brought in a HUGE pumpkin pie to celebrate fall. Last week a co-worker brought in candy (with leftovers still sitting outsite my cube) to help me feel better after an accident. Later this week another co-worker might bring in more baked goodies.

I LOVE baked goodies, candy, sugar...Hence needing to do a little life adjustment and lose weight and eat better. Today I managed to avoid getting up and enjoying a slice...or two...of pie. But how will I do it in the future? I can control what I bring into my own house, but I can't ask people not to bring in goodies!

Any advice on to keep the work yummies from sabotaging my goals? Or maybe advice on how to avoid the cravings to indulge when someone does bring something good in?

This is a problem where I work as well.  If I ate everything everyone gave me....or offered me...I would be unable to fit on my chair. It starts with you...firstly, either take a bite of the goody, and trash-can it...or decline it.

I also started bringing in fruits and veggies and healthy things to share. When my peers saw me losing weight, it inspired them to eat healthier too.  With desk jobs, it is so easy to gain weight. We all need to work together to fight against that.

I have been able to drop 37 pounds, from 226 to 189.  People at work have started noticing and I have been sharing my reasons why when asked.

Today one of my co-workers offered me a individually wrapped piece of Twizzlers candy.  I started to decline and she said, I bought the fat-free, sugar-free kind so that you could enjoy it.  This tells me that this person has been positivly impacted by my weight loss enough to make a good choice at the market.  Yippee!  Several of my co-workers have shared with me that they too are trying to get into better shape.  Its a win-win situation for me!

Just smile and say "Sorry, no sugar for me."

Tciherr - That's so nice of her!  That's awesome that you have some support at work.

At my work people are always bringing in food, or someone's celebrating something and they have cake.  I know it's a little rude, but when it's someone's birthday and they want people to join them in the lunchroom for cake, or whatever, I just don't go, or I run a 5 mins errand so I'm not tempted to go.

Someone offered me a big chunk of nutty chocolate today, I took a small piece, and when she walked away, I threw it out....where I got the self-control, I'll never know.

I'm having the same problem and I feel like I'm hurting ppl's feelings but there are just so many ppl who are offering me things.  I am feeling stuffed lately and don't like the feeling.

There should be a support group for us  :)

Maybe I need a sign on my office door "please don't feed me".

ohio - You've got an easy out. "My tummy's not agreeing with me today". I think most people will back off at that point.

This is a temporary problem though. Once you keep turning treats down, people will usually just assume that you want nothing to do with the treats again. Of course, if you decide to treat yourself once, the comments might come out but you can say you earned it, or you saved room for it, something like that.

Think about it as if they are purposely bringing in food for the reason of ruining your diet in some type of tiwisted way for them to look down on you.

Then, whenever they offer you food...you dont feel guilty about rejecting it (or hurting their feelings) and might even have a little resentment towards them for even offering it!

Though....probably dont want to take it too far to a point where it stresses your relationships with them (so, keep things to yourself about why you think they are bringing in food).
Last Friday of the month an entire committee is responsible for bring in dessert for everyone in the school. Last year when it was my groups turn we brought in angle food cake and strawberries, it was the first thing gone. Trying to think of something else this year. Most people at our school bring in those God awful cookies from walmart. Yuck. if I'm going to blow it, it better be homemade atleast. atleast ours in in the lounge so can avoid it if I have to.
great ideas :)

these are some really great ideas!! I especially like the one about putting up a sign about "please do not feed me" - I think my team would definitely get a good laugh about that! And it would be a nice little reminder. Plus, if I think about the food as sabotage as opposed to temptation, maybe that will help - thanks guys!!

Tomorrow will be another test...a potluck! I've already decided that instead of bringing my usual super decadent, super bad for you desserts, I'm bringing in a fruit salad! Still super rich, but at least healthy!

Yes...I agree with someone up there...if you are going to have a treat...make it matter. Don't blow it on something that you don't even really enjoy. Be picky. Yesterday I wanted a chocolate shake. I bought it and realized it tasted awful (mc donalds) it had waaaay too much chocolate flavoring and had the consistency of foam..bleah. I threw it out. If I am going to have something like that...it better be an AWESOME chocolate shake !

Yes! This is what I like to see. So many great ideas.

I am responsible for the things I put in my own mouth. My friend Pamela says nothing tastes as good as the first bite. Many times I watched her take one bite and then throw it out.

Also keeping nutritious snacks on hand helps me. I have my string cheese, my protein bar, my lofat yogurt...if I feed myself good things, I won't feel so tempted by the bad.

And some of those breakroom snacks are just a total waste of good fat, chocolate, pastry and sugar...yuck. I'm learning that if I have to go "over" my plan or "treat" myself, keep it small, reasonable, and throw out what I don't want. My will-power is nonexistent, but if I have it for just 3 seconds, I can get rid of something bad.

PS: loriklorik, you are hilarious. Yes! it's an evil plot by them against me. Will I survive? Let's have some drama...
