Work is seriously sabatoging my diet

Quote  |  Reply

I am going crazy with how much crap is available to indulge in nearly everyday at work.  I can't believe how much this company caters: breakfast burritos, chinese food, doughnuts, pizza etc.

Yesterday I ate an apple turnover.  After much thought I decided I would eat the damn thing, document it on my food log, adjust my eating for the day accordingly, and move on.  It's better than the alternatives: eat it and feel guilty and worthless, or not eat it and feel bitter and deprived.  I was fine with my decision.

Today on the treat table we have M&M cookies, 2 giant bowls fillled with candy, and dilley bars in the freezer.  So far I ate two pieces of hershey's chocolate: 96 calories, I can deal.  But seriously people, I am tired of feeling this turmoil everday.  Can't they just ditch the doughnuts and use the money to pay us more, haha?  Doesn't this company want us to be healthy?  Bad enough we sit around all day in office chairs.  Maybe they could use the doughnut money to buy a treadmill we can all share on our lunch breaks.

I have been counting calories for about a week now.  I have never liked counting calories.  I always believed in exersize and portion control.  That worked for a long time, but I realize I have to really pay attention in order to lose the last 5 pounds.

Okay, thanks for letting me rant.  At least it keeps me away from the candy bowl.

I bring in my own food. There are only about 8 people in my office, but they will order 2, sometimes 3 or 4 dozen Krispy Kreme's!I had one once, none the other time. But having my own food at least gives me an easy way out- "No thanks, I have my own." I have protein bars that I love that make me feel like I am eating a candy bar (They have some protein shakes that are 200 cals or less that have 4 g of sugar and about .5 gram sat fat that I love as well) I eat healthy choice (about $2.50 per each lunch compared to the $10 they often spend on po-boys and the like)

It is hard, but I am starting to lose my taste for that junk!

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! I wish that would happen to me...I'm WAY better than I used to be that is for sure...but I STILL have a taste for it!! Krispy Kreme! YUMMM!!! LOL

My problem is... I admit I'm watching what I eat for health reason and I catch crap (jokes) for that. Did I mention I work in an office with 12 people, and 2 are female?? That doesn't bother me.

Sometimes the boss asks us to pitch in and pay for some of the stuff. I tried to get out of it this last time by saying I'm broke and will be bringing my own lunch, but he INSISTED that he pay for me. It was the, "I'm making it a part of your job to accept this.. OR ELSE" situations... he laughed, but I didn't because I wasn't sure how to take it... So now I'm guilted into eating their bbq awesomeness! HAHA!

What's a passive girl to do other than assert herself Yell

Yeah, and that's the thing.  If the cookies aren't there- don't care, don't want them, don't think about them.  But when they're there, it's like my hands and mouth have a mind of their own.

What is it with offices and unhealthy snacks? I think the majority of people in my office have admitted to wanting to be healthier yet all we have available are cookies, cakes and candy. I had started reading 'The Lazy Girls Guide To Losing Weight and Getting Fit,' though admittedly was too lazy to finish. One of the things that she did suggest was occasionally bringing in healthy treats for the office. Perhaps others in the office will catch on to the trend and start following suit.

You hit the nail right on the head!!!!!!! that's why I'm so scared for the holiday season! That's when vendors start sending all the chocolate and cookies and what not! YIKES!!! Dont have much problem with boss buying lunch! HAHAHA though when that happens its easier to pick healthy. But its the goodies in the kitchen....

Ladies,  I work in the same kind of environment.  In fact, right now we are providing "treats" to people when they acheive certain things and I'm the one who pushes the treat cart around several times a day.  It's easy to say, and hard to do, but you just have to be committed.  Just say no!  Be sure people know you are eating more healthily and when offerred say something like, "sounds yummy, thanks for offerring, but no thanks".  It works!

This is one of the reasons Americans are so seriously overweight - this and the proliferation of fast foods and processed foods. I am a nurse, and we are notorious for eating crap - crap loaded with lots of sugar - sometimes it's our only meal cuz we are too busy to sit down. You'd think we'd know better!

I now work in an office setting, and we still bring in junk, but we are getting better. We became more and more aware of how badly we were not following what we teach to our patients, so we try to bring in healthy snacks, but on "birthday" celebrations, I just stear clear of the party room, or swing by and say "Beautiful cake!" and move on! I don't care if they think I am a party pooper - most likely they are more envious of my will power! I always bring my own food now- I have no will power when I am hungry and the only things in front of me are cookies and candy. As long as I have some healthy and tasty snacks of my own, i'm good.  After a period of time of healthy eating, the crap food starts to actually gag me.

As far as the poster who said her boss seemed to think paying for the junk food was part of her job (or something like that)- I'd say you have reason to complain to the boss's supervisor, because that is in complete violation of any labor laws I know of. No one can make you pay for office snack food - unless it's in your contract. Or unless you actually eat it - then I'd say you'd have to pony up. if you don't eat it, they can't force you to pay for it, and they can't ding you for it either. Maybe that boss needs a little reminder!
