Is it ok to work out if you have a UTI?
I am so sick of damn UTIs.
The most annoying factor, it's so much more uncomfortable to work out.
But is there actually any harm in working out when you have a UTI?
I went to the doctor today and got antibiotics and i've been trying to drink lots, but i really need to start working out again because i am VERY unfit and if i keep using things like UTIs and colds and bugs to put off exercise, i wont ever end up doing it cause there's always SOMETHING wrong with me...
Anyway, hope someone else can give me their opinion on whether its ok to work out or not.
I worked out yesterday for half an hour, and i didn't die but it did make it a little worse...
So, i suppose i should avoid exercise until its gone? ![]()
If you're getting repeated UTIs that's something to see you doctor about. Isolated attacks are common but if you're getting it fairly regularly it can be symptomatic of something else.
Hmm okay, thank you.
I'll make sure i rest up then! :)
UTI's are a son of a gun! I don't think I would want to do anything but hibernate if I had one. I had a long stretch where I would get them every other month. It turns out that they came from that "today sponge". Now, no one is sponge-worthy...(Seinfeld fans get it)
Anyway, sounds like you're doing the right thing...relax, drink water and take your medicine. You could always use the time to read up on anything healthy so you don't feel like it was a huge waste of a day.
I used to get UTI's all the time because I wouldn't pee after having intercourse and they are SO ANNOYING. Now I always pee! Just make sure you drink lots of cranberry juice, etc. and I used to work out all the time when I had them! The only annoying part is that you have to pee constantly throughout your workout and it is kind of uncomfortable. Good luck and I hope it goes away soon!
I've fought with chronic UTIs my whole life. As mentioned above, it is very important to urinate after intercourse. Mine got so bad that I now have to take one macrobid (antibiotic) after intercourse too to prevent infections. Working out will not make it any worse, but it can be uncomfortable until the antibiotics start to work. Did they give you anything for the symptoms, like Azo-Standard or Uristat? If so, those start to work within an hour (drink lots of water with them) and then working out shouldn't be a problem at all. You can get the symptom pills over the counter if needed (at least in the states anyway). Good luck!
I think i had been peeing after i had any sex.
I think i have to go back to peeing before and after.
Figure i probably got another UTI because i was dumb and had sex a few times without peeing before hand.
The nurse gave me some general antibiotics while my urine gets sent to the pathlab to see if i need any specific kind of antibiotic, but they don't seem to be working very well.
I didn't get any symptom pills, no.
I had an anti-thrush cream my dr gave me, and that helped with external discomfort, so now its usually just painful to pee.
Only i think the physical strain of playing soccer with the kids earlier bugged it because now its painful just laying here watching tv!
Ugh... just wanna cut it all out or something.
I'll be a asexual-non-urinating-barbie doll.
... Haha.
La_Fadeaway, when you get UTI's is it just a burning sensation when you pee, constant peeing, etc?
'Cause i'm getting this annoying preasure in my abdomin like my bladder is full even though i can't pee.
It's worrying me because it isn't really listed as a UTI symptom so i'm worried theres either something wrong with my bladder (other then a UTI) or i have some kind of growth or something...
It's so frustrating not being able to clearly see your organs and whats wrong with them lol.
... Need see through skin.
*thinks about this for a little while *ew, no, nvm.
Um, and yip im drinking cranberry juice but theres only half a cup left in the bottle.
And its starting to taste rather repulsive so i think my body is over it.
Sex is another matter though.
Yeah, feeling like you need to pee when you don't is definitely a symptom of a UTI. I used to get them all the time as a kid and was eventually put on a daily antibiotic (at least, I think it was) to prevent them. I don't remember what it was called though.
But there's no issue besides discomfort that would prevent you from working out with a UTI, so if you feel up to it then I say go for it.
Thanks.
I've only been getting them regularly for the past 3-4 months...
Very frustrating.
Especially since i never used to get them.
I'd had one once before, but it must have gone away with time 'cause i don't think i went to a doctor for it.
I didn't have a doctor back then and my mum was never bothered to take me to one.
And OH MY GOD! Inara_Jade what the hell happened to your foot?!
It looks very painful!!
I understand your pain. In my own honest opinion I would rather have a UTI than a yeast infection. Take cranberry pills with your meds. I was never given the pill that turns ur pee orange. I get them from using playtex tampons i dont know why but I do so no more of those. My first UTI was accidentally found out when I was having back pain my senior year of high school. The UTI wasnt the cause but good thing they did find it because its not good for your kidneys it its not treated. Give it a day or 2 and see how your feeling then go for walks and just do your strength training. I was always given Cipro for them so it was clear within 3-7 depending how bad I had it and I usually felt better a few hours after taking it.
I would say no. You do not want to aggrivate a UTI. Focus on treating it before you focus on working out, and stick to walks minimum. I used to suffer from regular UTIs until I improved my diet (pre-ED, I should add, though with a second diet improval in gaining again I have had yet to have one again) and found that if I overexerted myself during one they lasted longer. I've also had a kidney infection - you don't want it to go that far!
Cranberries are a good natural remedy for UTIs. Juice, or various over-the-counter medications designed for them work very well. I know it's been a while since you first posted so hopefully your UTI is gone by now, but keep it in mind. ^__^
I was drinking cranberry juice, but it started tasting really bitter and i was starting to have to scull it because it wasn't enjoyable to drink anymore.
So i figure that was my bodies way of saying "NO MORE CRANBERRY JUICE!!"
But i'm thinkin about getting some of the cranberry pills i saw in the supermarket...
That and i want to get some Inner Health good-bacteria suppliments because i'm taking antibiotics all the time.
I don't know if if its gone or not...
When i stopped my course of antibiotics (last one was Monday night), i felt like it was only JUST begining to work!
Monday i felt a little better.
Tuesday my bladder felt a lot better but it was still a little off (but better then its been in a couple of months!) and Wednesday... it was ignorable and made the stupid mistake of having sex, so then Yesterday it was a little worse and then of course last night it was much worse.
But i'm thinking perhabs its jsut moved onto thrush because the anti-thrush cream i used last night has helped and this morning i feel much better.
Man it's annoying though, having them come and go for sooo long!
And after the antibotics when i got a second urine test, it said it was gone, but i was still experiencing minor symptoms!
So when the dr sees the test says im fine, she thinks its just thrush, but then the thrush cream doesn't work 100% either.
Lalabanana, what was your diet like when you were getting them?
Mine first started when i stopped drinking 2-3 litres of water a day and changed to 2-3 cups and was binging a lot.
Oh, and stopped working out.
And now it wont go away even when i drink lots!
Plus its hard to drink a lot of water anymore because after half a glass i feel waterlogged.
