Last year my doctor told me that my cholesterol was 235. Not wanting medication I asked him for a natural method. He told me to take fiber (Metamusil) 3 times a day with a large glass of water. After about 2 months my cholesterol went all the way down to 190. However, my recent blood test a few weeks ago showed that my cholesterol rose again to 218. The side effect (for me) was burping and a bloated feeling for about 2 hours after taking the fiber. I mention this method because it might work well for some of you. To be safe you may want to tell your doctor about this. As for me perhaps now that I found this website (2 days ago) and have decided to commit myself to a healthier lifestyle perhaps my cholesterol will be lowered naturally. We'll see over the next 2 months or so. Best of luck to all of you.

Nathan

I found that 2 tbs. of psyllium 3 times a day. and niacin (vit. B3 ) works well for me. Some new studies have shown niacin and fiber in combination works as well as the cholesterol drugs, minus the side effects;

Possibly eating more fiber (natural fiber in fruits & veggies, and cereals such as All Bran) might help.  Oatmeal is also supposed to help lower cholesterol.
