Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k It worked! Plateau Broken.... 75lbs Gone
I started over a year ago and I am now down 75 lbs! I am now at 179. A year ago I was worried it wouldn't happen! I have 19 - 29 lbs to go depending on how I feel. This has not been with out plateaus either!
After having a plateau of nearly 2 months I upped my calories from 1200-1250 a day to 1350 -1450 on most days! It takes a while for you body to adjust and start losing again! For those of you that don't believe it increasing your calories does WORK!
I have done this with having a weekly maintenance day as well.
A Heart felt thank you to all for your support over the last year!

woohoo! way to go! :)
I do agree on the upping the calories, it's worked for me too. It seems counterintuitive in many ways but yeah, it works :)
Glad to see you doing so well keep up the good work :)

Why?
Because you have succeeded by doing things that many others would never imagine would work. Upping calories??? Maintenance days??? You mean I can eat more and splurge and STILL lose weight???
See, if others could read that you do those very things, but do it with intent and by planning, they could see that it does work and it is a healthy approach.
PLEASE consider submitting your story.

That is awesome! Congrats on your loss! (That sounds weird, so used to saying so sorry for your loss but here it is appropriate!) Good luck on shedding those last pounds!
That is terrific - congrats on both the plateau-busting and the weight loss. You have a lot to be proud of!!
Congratulations to you! I am new here at this site and it is the remarkable results that you have done that helps me to focus on the motivating to lose the weight.
Any tips on eating out? I probably 75 percent I am eating at a restaurant due to travel for work.

KittyKatz..what do you mean when you say "Maintenence Day"..what would that entail for you for a whole day if you dont mind me asking..in comparison to a "normal" day??
75 lbs in a year!!! Bravo, Bravo.
What type of excerises did you do? You are trying to get to the weight goal that I want 150 - 160 or more if I can make it that far. But right now my main goal is to make it below 200. And I have been working on that for about 3 months solid, only have 15 more to go.

Thank you everyone! I just love this place!
MC... I will have to think on that... I must have missed a post or something on success stories!
Alaskanbaby - When i go out to eat I do tend to try and go to places that might have thier nutition information on line. I will say I have cut back on eating out quite a bit in the last year. I will usually stick woth a lean meat veggies/rice and a salad on the side.
robston - I have a weekly maintenence day where I will go up too 2000 -2400 calories a day. I also tend to be very active on the weekends. knowing I have a somewhat free day..one day a week helps me to stay on track the remainder of the week. Also I like my beer on the weekends. I usually don't make it an all out pig out or anything but I definitely give myself more freedom!
bjford38 - My main source of exercise is walking, at least 30 minutes on a 2% incline and I very my speed and so far I have worked up to 3.8 mph. I also fit in quick walks on work breaks too. every little bit seems to be helping. I also do a bit of resistance training. I admt I started very slow with regular exercise and lost a big chunk with out it. It was like I could not concentrate on both the food and exercise at the same time.
I think it takes a while for people to figure out what works for them for a lifestyle change versus a diet. I had to let go of the all or nothing attitude big time and not beat myself up everytime I had a cookie and give up! I feel like that peice of the puzzle had been conquered! YAY!

alaskanbaby:
Regarding eating out, I have found that the best way for me to avoid overeating at a restaurant is to divide everything in half at the beginning of the meal. I ask the waitress for a take-out box, divide everything on my plate in half, and take one-half home in the box for the next day (or for a snack for someone else in my family). That way there is no way I will be tempted to eat the whole huge portion they invariably serve. And what you take home still looks appealing, since it hasn't been "picked at."
