So here is the problem. Tomorrow we are having a potluck for a girls birthday and everytime we do something like this it seems like they want to pressure me into eating what they bring!!! Any ideas on how to avoid this and not ruin my diet????

Eat a small breakfast, get a smaller plate and only 1/2-1 spoonful of everything, then have a salad for dinner. You'll be great!
Is there any way to try just a tiny bit?  You are all sharing recipes and I know I like to bring something really 'yummy' when there is a pot luck and it's nice to know if people like it.  If you try a tiny bit, it wouldn't hurt and then you could say you like it (or not).  Then, eat a lot of the healthy stuff.  Besides, this shouldn't be a 'diet', this is forming healthy habits and I know I can eat anything at all, I just allow for it in my daily calories.
That is a great idea! That way I don't feel left out and I keep them from trying to force me to eat what they are eating. I am just afraid that I will feel guilty for eating these bad food. I know that this is lifestyle change and not really a diet but I find myself getting mad at myself for eating things that I know aren't healthy.
Eat an apple just before the pot-luck. You will not feel hungry and be less tempted by the foods. I also find that once I eat something really sweet I want more. If I avoid the really sweet/fatty things I can keep control.
Thank you all for the ideas!! I am new to this web site and actually found it on accident and I am glad I did. I have been watching what I eat for about a week now and really didn't know how many calories I had been consuming a day. This web site is great and hopefully I will make some friends to help me through my bad days!
What are your stats? they are not in your profile - and when is the wedding?
If by stats you mean my weight and height I just put them on there. The wedding October 7th, 2006. I am also in a wedding as a bridesmaid on August 26th, 2006. So needless to say, I am feeling the pressure!

the store I work for recently had its anniversary, and there was a spiffy cake in the lounge for staff to celebrate. at least two of my coworkers made remarks like 'oh, like you're going to have some anyway'...I looked 'em straight in the eye and said 'only an idiot would turn down a cake that looked this good' and had half a piece. it was delicious, and I simply adjusted my dinner to keep within my calorie limits for the day. easy peasy!

even better than the cake though, was seeing the look on my snitty coworker's face. hehehe...^_^
That is what I think I am going to do is just have a small piece and watch what I eat the rest of the day. Thanks for the advice!
Make sure you bring something yummy and low cal so you know that there is one thing that you can have.
I drink a cup of water right before I eat. And if there is a pot luck lunch I eat a banana or apple or veggie mid morning so I'm not 'starving' by the time the pot luck starts.  Try a little bit of everything like some of the other posts recommended.  This way you don't deprive yourself and you won't offend anyone.  You'll be fine and enjoy your pot luck!!!!!

Yes I know exactly how you feel. I also work in an office where they are always having a celebration for something , dont mind it except there is always cake and cookies and doughnuts and pizza and all the bad things we love.. But I finally think they have gotten the hint that I am serious and I tell them no thank you. They really dont even ask me anymore.. I have to stick to my guns this is a life style change. I am not saying that I dont cheat once in a while because I do but it cant be everytime there is a celebration. I have a goal and I need to stick to it. I am glad they respect me enough not to ask anymore..

The day actually went pretty well. The worst thing there was cake and I limited myself to a tiny sliver. They do the same thing to me.......asking me if I want something and they know that I can't have it. But it is getting better and I am getting stronger.....and each day that I lose weight I feel better when I say no.
