1. I choose walk up 4 flights of stairs to the office.
2. I whip out my tape measure to check the diameter of the homemade cookie someone offered me so that I can log it correctly (yes, it was yummy and worth every calorie).
3. I use the postage scale to weigh my almonds.
4. I eat big piles of raw veg w/ my lunch instead of chips like they do.
Reason: 3/3/08: Stickied. 3/17/08: Unstickied
Or what has happened to me is that they now offer me cookies and snacks saying I don't need to watch my weight because I've gotten so "tiny". HELLO I've gotten tiny BECAUSE I watch my weight.
~ When I eat homade Hummus instead of eating something with meat.
~ When I choose to walk to my car a mile away than take the shuttle. (I actually get there faster walking instead of waiting for the shuttle to make all it's stops)
~ Ask me how I can eat McDonalds and be on a diet. Ummmm I just add the kids meal with apples and water in my daily calorie accounting.

Well... I might look at you funny if you used the postage scale to weigh almonds. I suppose I just guesstimate the things like size of cookie and so on. But if it works for you, go for it!
I do put a napkin down before I weigh the almonds. I try to be very precice M-F so that I can relax a bit on the weekend. SO far it has been working for me.
I don't mind the funny looks, I just smile. I don't mind being the office crazy-lady.
Everyone in my office says "Heather's being good again" at lunch when I bring in my food and it's a spinach salad with fish. Then they go get a burger and fries or a big bowl of pasta.
But I must admit, I made black bean brownies for Valentines day and they were so gross I wouldn't bring them in and subject to my coworkers to that misery.
i'm a vegetarian and for some strange reason this fascinates people. so i'm used to having my every meal looked at and being asked what i'm eating and why all the darned time. i'd looooooove to do that to them but then i'm the bad guy right? and how many times "ew your eating soy that just sounds gross" have i heard?! but if i say "ew your eating a slab of dead animal insides that just sounds gross" then i'd be that horrible vegetarian preaching their views.... *sigh* i give up, let people look, i really don't care, i'm eating it and it works for me and i don't ask anyone else what they're doing.
I've weighed almonds at home, and measured and all that. I had to, until I learned to recognize portions better. I used to fill my bowl with cereal and call it a cup, till I started measuring........thats only one example.
And the health freak comments get kind of old!!! I love eating healthy.. I love that I can have 4 times the amount of food than a lot of people for less calories than their fast food lunch that doesn't eve fill them up.
So they can look at me weird all they want! haha..
My nickname at work is 'salad eater'... I'll give you 2 guesses why =)
I hate the vegetarian comments I get!
People often comment on my lunch choices, a soygurt , sliced vegetables, maybe a tofu stirfry, or how I miss out on the meat choices at work events like their monthly BBQ's and opt for the veggie burgers.
"You like tofu? It's like eating water"... uh that's... weird...
Or when they notice I eat more often then most people do but 'never seem to gain a pound' because of my portion controls, healthy choices, and calorie counting.

What recipe did you use for your black bean brownies? I've been making mine using a brownie mix and they turn out wonderfully...my coworkers rave about them, especially once I tell them the stats.

You made me snort water out my nose.
I'm so using that the next time someone makes some snarky comment.

There are a lot of vegetarians where I work (lots of Indian and Pakistani people) and when we have cooking contests (I love cooking contests), I always make at least two entries, one for the meat eaters and one for the vegetarians/vegans. At the first chili cookoff we had, I won both the meat category (with my Texas style chili) and the vegetarian category (with a black bean chili).
Personally, I am not a vegetarian, but I do like vegetarian cooking and at our cooking events, I really want everyone to be able to enjoy the event, not just the carnivores. And since I started doing this, the vegetarians in the company have started participating much more than in the beginning.
It's too bad that people have to be so closed minded about anything that is different.
I had coworkers try to pick on me for my lunch choices as well turkey with lettuce wrap a couple of days ago too. (No bread wrap - turkey wrapped in lettuce!) While they chomped on the cafe meatloaf, burgers, and bread bowl clam chowder I just smiled at them. Then when it was time to go back upstairs (6 flights of stairs) I literally 'bounded' up the stairs. By the time they came up to the floor 'huffing and puffing' I just kept on smiling as I leaned over the rail waiting for them to catch up. ![]()
lol, speaking of high calorie dressing...my boss (who is weird to begin with) cuts up an apple and slathers on about half a cup of ranch dressing....that stuff is like 140 cals for two tbs!!! i don't see how it would taste good. i really like weird food combinations and making up new combos...but ranch on top of an apple turns my stomach. what a great way to turn a healthy snack into like 400 cals. lol.
