Working out while pregnant is exhausting!
Well I was just wondering if anyone else found that their stamina and things of that nature plummeted when they were pregnant. I just went for a walk, a nice light pace. It was maybe thirty minutes of walking. I was walking my dogs so it wasn't very fast or anything like that but man I feel like I just did a 30 minute high intensity spin class!
I find it rather frustrating. The lack of stamina. Does it ever come back, or am I doomed until the baby gets here?
In the first trimester I had no energy. It got better in the second then a little worse in the third but still better than the first. But I was still pretty exhausted the entire time! I napped daily and slept at least 9 hours every night.
I would be so out of breath just walking up a flight of stairs even though I did work out my entire pregnancy.
So for me it didn't really get easier until after my delivery, sad to say. :(
thats what I was afraid of!
Look at it this way, 30 minutes of walking is better than nothing.
Personally, I still haven't recovered and it's been 5 years since my first and one year since my second. Then again, I'm also anemic so that plays a role in it.
I go to bed at 9:30pm and get up at 5am. Usually, I'm exhausted. When pregnant (most recently), it was worse. It did get better once I was taking an iron supplement but I never fully got my energy back.
Amayou is right. Even if it feels like a high-intensity workout, walking daily is great for you regardless of pregnancy.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck with the energy!
I personally had a difficult time in the first trimester this time as I did with my daughter almost 3 years ago...but once the second trimester hits, in both cases, I was able to resume the exercise that I had always done. In fact, I feel that if I don't work out and make excuses for being tired, that I have reduced energy throughout the day and feel more bloated and frustrated. I get up in the morning, put my workout clothes on, and do the "Perfect Pregnancy Workout" or "Turbo Jam" along with some abs. I feel better, I look better, and I have more energy for my 2 year old and still some left over for when the hubby gets home from work. I was able to lose all my baby weight within 4 months of my daughter being born and I whole heartedly believe it's because I pushed myself during pregnancy to not be stagnant. It's something you WILL regret later both in delivery and in post pregnancy weight loss attempts.
Just tell your body that it will obey! It starts in your mind...the rest just happens;-)
Good luck to you in your pregnany!
Sarah
Hi!
Well, I have noticed that I get VERY winded VERY easily now, which never happened before I was pregnant. I have to take lots more breaks too. I am almost 20 weeks, and it just keeps getting harder!!
One thing no one told me until recently is that you're not supposed to get your heart rate above 140 when you're pregnant, 150 max. Before I knew that, I'd push it a lot harder and find myself feeling exhausted and miserable after a workout. Not only that, something that used to barely raise my heartrate really pumps it up now. Do you wear a heartrate monitor emilysmi? If not, just make sure to check your heart rate here and there when you're exercising, because I feel much, much better after a workout if I push it but not beyond the 140-150 heart rate range.
Oh, and congrats! When are you due?

I didn't know that about the heartrate!! I am glad you told me. I am due march 17th so I am about 13-15 weeks (I can't ever keep track.)

I didn't know that either (until I was about 16 weeks), even though I asked my doctor about working out a number of times. It's made a huge difference though now that I know! For what it's worth, you're about 4 weeks behind me, so I think you're about 15 weeks :)
I had no problem at all until the third trimester.
Since I don't drive, I rely a lot on walking to get me from A to B.
I live what would normally be a 20 minute walk at a moderate pace from the town centre, but now I can't even manage to get to town let alone there and back again, haha.
When I was majorly working out at the beginning of my second pregnancy, I would get light-headed and VERY nauseous. I asked my doctor about it and THAT'S when he told me not to go over 140.
Keep in mind, too, that baby is compressing your lungs and will be until birth. Not being able to breathe as deeply as you normally would certainly impacts the rate at which you get winded.
